Sony Cambridge Studios Developing ''Major'' AAA Project

It has been previously revealed that Sony Cambridge Studios have been working on a ''high profile, multi-million selling franchise'' and a recent job position has surfaced at Playstation Jobs requiring a visual effects engineer to

''Lead the design and development of the visual effects on a major future project.''

The listing requires the engineer to have a ''familiarity with the Playstation 3 and Playstation Portable development environment and tool suite.'' The title will push the PS3 to the limits as the advertisement states that the engineer will

''marry a good eye for aesthetics with in depth technical knowledge to bring the game scenes to life - producing AAA particle, lighting and full-screen effects that push the boundaries of the target hardware.''

Sony has the most exclusives omg!

2011:

Greatest lienup of PSP
Greatest lineup of PS3
And NGP coming too...

VampiricDragon_5499d ago

sorry but the truth is nintendo has more studios

NukaCola5499d ago

VampiricDragon

How many more does Nintendo have? I would say none anymore. Maybe Hudson and Retro still but that is about it, unless you can name more. At lease 25 to match Sony tho.

STK0265499d ago

Nintendo also it's own in-house studios, mostly Nintendo EAD, first party studios like Retor, Intelligent systems and Monolith soft, and it also has a fair share of second party studios like Camelot, Jupiter and Creatures, to name a few.

So, NukaCola, if you're wondering who has the most studios working exclusively with them, that would probably be Nintendo, although Sony wouldn't be very far.

heroicjanitor5499d ago (Edited 5499d ago )

Actually it isn't Nintendo. Sony has more than Nintendo and Microsoft combined.

Edit: Things have changed maybe? Nintendo have 18 first parties, Sony 16. Could have sworn Sony had more... Although a lot of Nintendo's are very unheard of and make only one bad game(my excuse and I'll stick to it).

ElementX5499d ago

Most exclusives but 90% are sequels.

shoddy5499d ago

sound like you tell me Gear and Mario isn't sequel.

how is 20 first party developers sound?

PLASTICA-MAN5499d ago (Edited 5499d ago )

Studio Crambidge isn't famous for making ultra quality games, the only AAA title they made was Medievil, after that only failures, Primal (decent but bugged as hell), then Ghost Hunter(flopped so much and bugged as frozen hell), then 24 the lame,oh I mean teh game, (better not talk about it). For me Studio Cambridge is the less capable Sony First Party Studio, so I don't expect something groundbreaking. Sony better dismantle them and make/buy another more competent studio.

well according to wikipedia Sony has 36 first and second party studios , Nintendo 34 very close , anyways i couldnt help but notice that majority of Nintendo studios develop only casual games but anything goes , they better get back to the hardcore next generation because not even Zelda alone will make me buy Wii 2 or whatever they end up calling it , i want NEW franchises nintendo , they got the studios , why arent they developing new franchises ? you know long time fans have grown up nintendo its time to get back to them

VampiricDragon_5499d ago (Edited 5499d ago )

they only count some once. Nintendo has about 5 tokyo studios................. nintendo has slightly more internal devleopers

What relevence does your comment have with the article?
Get a life troll.

And your post includes Wii Fit = Void.
What are you a menopausal housewife, because that aint a game.

would u guys buy killzone 3 if it was the same game but portable?

Would be cool if A: buy ps3 killzone 4 B: Receive voucher for digital download of NGP version.

I would buy it for the sake of mplayer on the go and well for games, music , videos and more.

Yes Killzone is in development, but this title is likely to release on PS3.

jony_dols5499d ago (Edited 5499d ago )

Medievil 3 on the PS3. PSM3 announced that Sony Cambridge were developing it last July.

DarkSpawnClone5499d ago

i would love a new medievil game!!!

DOMination5499d ago

I'm sorry but people need to start getting some perspective. Medievil was a good game but it's not a 'major AAA franchise'. If it turned out to be that for PS3 I would be massively underwhelmed and so would most people.

5497d ago
DigitalRaptor5499d ago

No. If you saw the NGP announcement reel, Killzone is coming out for NGP, as well as a new WipEout, Resistance and Uncharted.

GG are working on a new IP for PS3.

ALFAxD_CENTAURO5499d ago (Edited 5499d ago )

Getting ridiculous with amount of AAA Exclusives Games.

blumatt5499d ago (Edited 5499d ago )

It's better to have "too many" exclusives than not enough. lol I'm glad we've got tons of choices. When gaming it's good to have choices and a wide variety of games and that's what Sony is providing for us this year. I can't even afford to buy half of the exclusives for this year. haha I might have to use my Best Buy card to get the rest. lol

Kain815499d ago

hope it is Eight Days or Getaway 3...

PLASTICA-MAN5499d ago

don't hope so much, Eight Days and Getaway 3 used to be developed (when they were developed before mysteriously stopped lol) by Studio London, the same studio that abandoned those 2 awesome projects for some stupid Eyepet. Considering they are developing Eyepet 2 now, don't expect to see those jaw-dropping games anytime and if they aren't shown this E3 (their last redemption), then consider both games MIO (Missing In Oblivion)v lol !

waltyftm5499d ago

I would love a new Getaway, Please sony make it so.

Looks like PlayStation took a hit with Marathon and is now quietly adjusting prices worldwide to recover the losses

andy8517d ago

Lets be honest raising prices doesn't do that when no one's buying it. I imagine the profit it greater selling 10 times more at a lower price

Pergele16d ago

Whatever you say buddy, let's all wear the tinfoil hats.

IceKoldKilla16d ago (Edited 16d ago )

LMFAO Your comment alone says a lot more about you than anything else. When has one game not selling 10 million copies made a company raise the prices of their console? Then Xbox would be costing $5000 by now lol. You remind of the crazy drug addicts on the street rambling on about conspiracies. xD You sure you don't need a hug, buddy?

ChunkyMonk16d ago

One game that Sony payed $200 million for. lol
Also, you sure were quick to get triggered. Maybe your the one who needs a hug?

Eonjay16d ago

If nothing else, we should be united against the real issue here. AI and unnecessary tariffs that are effecting all gamers.

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 16d ago
Athlon10117d ago (Edited 17d ago )

The price increases are due to the RAM demand associated with AI and the US-Iran war. You can look to any business news website and local news to see that. Heck, even the 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo I've been eyeing has faced delays and has had a price increase of $400; that laptop has two specs. Asus is doing a staggered release with per-orders for the lower spec now and shipping in May and pre-orders for the higher spec that I'm eyeing starting in June. Basically, all computer manufactures are affected. It'll most likely start affecting smart phones too if it hasn't already. I can't remember the last time any major console maker (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) increased the price of their console mid cycle outside of Microsoft just to make more profit.

S2Killinit16d ago

Its not the war. Its the RAM issue.

jznrpg16d ago

War is causing gas prices to rise. Transport of everything requires gas so the prices of those items go up as well. So it does have an impact

Athlon10116d ago (Edited 16d ago )

The blockage of the Straight of Hormuz due to the US-Iran war has affected raw components used in semi-conductor manufacturing such as bromine, aluminum, and helium. Iran had attacked the liquified natural gas (LNG) plant in Qatar which is a large producer (1/3 globally) of helium which is used in semiconductor etching. So it's the both the war and the RAM crises.

badz14916d ago

Oh no...should I get the Pro now before the price increase?

I dont think that'll ever happen. But i must say back in the day, they were definitely trying because they were more cash rich than their competitors.

CosmicTurtle29d ago

I think MS were and still are the richer company. They tried to acquire Sega back in the day (and considered doing so again more recently), they obviously bought exclusivity to Halo which was originally shown as a Mac title. I don’t think as a company MS can claim the moral high ground here. It’s a wilful lack of self awareness.

Of course Sony would try exactly the same if they had the resources, but when the PS2 dominated the industry was in a much healthier place with an abundance of great third parties.

This has been a depressing generation as far as first party decisions are concerned. The fact we are debating business plans rather than which game is better is a sad reflection of the state of things.

Darkseeker30d ago (Edited 30d ago )

There was Nintendo as well, Sony wouldn't have had a monopoly. In fact, the world would be better today if Xbox never existed in the first place. They pretty much brought all bad practices we have today. We might have gotten all of it either way, but not this early. In term of franchises, I don't think there is anything Microsoft released that would actually be missed if it didn't exist. Even Halo the world wouldn't notice if Halo didn't exist.

S2Killinit29d ago

MS was definitely a bad influence on gaming.

raWfodog30d ago

I think almost everyone will agree that a monopoly is not good for the industry. But that being said, the competition needs to be smart and strategic with their business. Simply buying up publishers and traditional third-party studios just to keep them out of the other companies reach is not a sustainable practice. That goes for all parties so don't think I'm just referring to Xbox.

I'm no business guru by any stretch of the imagination but I firmly believe that the best way to drive consumers to your software and hardware is to invest smart in your first-party studios. Give them full support and guidance in making unique, fun games that are only available to play in your ecosystem and the gamers will come.

Reaper22_30d ago (Edited 30d ago )

But first party studios aren't enough. They only make up a small portion of the industry. Without 3rd party there would be no industry for Microsoft or sony.Developing games take time and money and sometimes you gotta make moves to stay competitive.

raWfodog30d ago

Nah, I never said first-party was enough. I said it’s the ‘best way’ to drive gamers to your platform. 3rd-party is a free-for-all and there’s no guarantee that gamers will use your hardware to play the game. If you want to push your own software and/or hardware you need first-party, or at least exclusive deals with third-party studios.

SimpleDad30d ago

They Shure did a great job... 25 years later Xbox is dead.

Reaper22_30d ago

Then why be so emotional and continue to talk about it. Xbox will never die be ause it stays in so many people's head.

lodossrage30d ago

How can you even see him being "emotional" in that comment?

If anything, you're the emotional one, constantly trying to go at anyone that says anything against Microsoft. So when you call him emotional, it comes off as deflection

Elda29d ago

I own an XBSX & I can say it's becoming irrelevant out of the 3 current consoles.
