Google could just as easily say "No it's not true. Not happening. We haven't had any deals with Sony."

But instead of "no" we got a "not announcing anything at this time" type of answer. Which usually means "yes".
And if Google is not announcing anything, then more than likely it's Sony who's going to be the one announcing it (E3?).

We just have to wait for the time to come.

I would bet it's happening. The fact that they said nothing to announce at this time instead of a flat out no is quite telling. Almost anytime a company gives that response it ends up being a yes but we can't talk right now.

If it is indeed true I would bet we will hear about it at E3.

but at the same time thats the same exact logic that kept peoples hopes up so high for Cross Game Chat to be released in every new firmware, Sony never said "no" and people latched onto that.

I would lovvveee for Chrome to come to PS3, absolutely love it, but I'll be waiting patiently for it because it will probably be awhile.

I don't know about Google but Sony always says... we have nothing to announce at this time, regardless of what it is. That way people can't use the logic to work it out.

Basically if they said no a couple of times we would know that unless they said no it meant "we are working on an arrangement now" or yes.

Same here. I used to use Firefox all the time, but then chrome was released, and now it's basically all I use. I think it would be great to have it on PS3.

Unfortunately though, if this turns out to be true, I won't be able to use it. My PS3 just got the YLOD yesterday morning while playing LBP2 (which is still stuck inside)....*cries profusely*

Try this. Whilst PS3 is off (from switch at the back), press and hold the eject button, then flick the switch on from the back (and keep holding the eject button). It may or may not work, but worth a try. Other option is open it up yourself and take the disc out manually.

And if nothing works, at least Sony lowered the repair price. Went from $149 + $30 shipping, down to $129 shipping included. Got my original 60gig version getting back to me in a couple days.

Almost everyone on here used Firefox before but almost everyone on here switched to Google Chrome...

I was like you at first I even downloaded Chrome and uninstalled it cause I liked FF but trust me once you get used to it it is just faster and simpler.

Especially with a few extensions for the download manager.

Opera is the best unmodified browser, so it wouldn't be a bad fit for the ps3. Chrome and Firefox rise high above Opera on the PC with the use of addons tho.

For me, without addons:

Opera>Chrome>Firefox

After you tune it:

Firefox>Chrome>Opera

Using Chrome as well, can't wait to check out the upcoming chromium laptops.

As for the news is question.

Sony seems to be in pretty good terms with Google lately. Seeing how they are putting android to their xperia phones and upcoming tablets I don't see that this would be impossible.

Google seems to be expanding their products and services rapidly to all sorts of devices. This makes Sony with all their home entertainment devices invaluable ally when trying to spread Google to as many platforms as possible.

I doubt they'll release Chrome to Ps3 tough, NGP and Ps4 would seem far better choices as Ps3 is already getting a bit old.

I'd be so happy if either the PS3 or 360 (ideally both) got a good browser. The PS3 has a browser but it's a clunky unreliable memory-leaking mess.

If I could reliably browse on my PS3, with full RELIABLE Flash support, my PC could get some rest.

I'd rather have IE9 than Chrome on my desktop. For my laptop I use FF. I do occasionally use chrome.

So I'd rather have FF on my PS3.

Flash is only needed to be installed once, I can manage that
IE9 loads faster than Chrome on my PC
A PDF reader is no reason to change browser
Page loading is fast enough for me
Firefox is secure enough with No Script and adblock
I have no need for HTML5 at the moment
Animated tab control is not a valid reason to switch

None of your reasons are strong enough to make me change back to chrome as my main browser, it's good but I prefer IE9 and FF.

IE9 has pinned sites which I love.
Firefox has more and better add ons.
Firefox does syncing better.
Firefox does bookmarks MUCH better.
Having a seperate search bar means I'm not flooded with tons of search recommendations and instead i see past visited sites.

Chrome uses google too much. In FF if i typed N4G and pressed enter I come to N4g, do the same on chrome and I get a needless google search of N4g.

Yeah, I don't trust Google when it comes to my privacy.

However, I use all 3 browsers: IE, FF and Chrome. Chrome seems most resource efficient, while IE has the sleekest interface and FF has the most features.

Pick your poison, but I don't limit myself to anyone particular.

firefox is completely customizable, chrome no.
Chrome has much simpler extension, preventing a good adblock because google earn on ads.
Also on speed it's only some ms ahead of FF 4.0 and it doesn't have full HW support. And background updater means background services on PC, no thanks...

I can vouch for vstep chrome sends info a lot of places without you knowing it. google has ties to cia and nsa, google (ironically) "google cia" see what comes up. been floating around for awhile now.

on another note
firefox just stamped the pants off my IE9 which is hadware accelerated but firefox takes the cake it does 1080p 3d graphics at 60fps in browser using html5 and other extensions much better than ie9s 1000 2d fish its all in the firefox test drive area.

Chrome is really good but it eats lots of system ram. And when I say a lot the amount it's pretty crazy. You can always Google it if you don't believe me cus I've seen lots of people saying that FF uses more ram and that is a lie. From all the browser Chrome uses the most amount of ram and FF uses the least amount of ram.

Chrome use a lot of ram cus everything is sandboxed for security reasons.

Look at that, Chrome use x3 times the ram than FF to do the same task. =/

Google is the next MS. There will be litigation over monopolies within a couple years. Google Books has been sued for copyright infringement, Google Earth/Street has been sued for privacy issues. Google is a serious threat to privacy. They are bigger than MS ever was. They stick their noses in every tech industry, from mobile phones to satellites, to browsers, OS, music, books, shopping... Google is becoming too big for it's britches. Yes I love my Android phone, but I'm afraid of any company who is trying to stick their nose in every aspect of my life

With the recent love Sony and Google have been showing each other I wouldn't be surprised if Google is heavily invested in working with the software side of the playstation all together. Google tv, xperia play with android. Might as well pull the official playstation brand into the fold as well.

I trust Sony, i hope everything will work out fine for them. Because they are being squashed by microsoft and hackers, the worst part is that only source of income to sony is games, console and DLC's, while microsoft also charges for online and and people have to buy a new console every year... hackers want sony to allow them and other pirates just get everything for free. Sony doesn't have a stable source of income any PS3 player can stop play it anytime, but for xbox 360, most have paid for online and they are not going to throw their money away, and they they just are forced to continue playing xbox, playing/buying games and paying for online.

You don't want a real os on your console... You want to stick with the efi/bios techniques that they use now, because it lets the game developers have at the hardware directly, where as if they introduced some sort of OS on there... well then you have all the problems that come with having an OS installed, and on a game console you don't want those.

Well except on the ps3 you only have a single useable CPU core, all the other cores will require several years of refinement before they become useable.

The xbox with its 3 cores with 6 threads and flat memory space would be much more useable in that sort of environment. But Microsoft has said in no uncertain terms that xbl is a closed system.

yeah it's not the same, but really close. it loads fast, hd content is sharp. and actually you can now sign-in, rate videos, and leave comments! it's great! you can even auto-redirect from offical youtube.com.

the guy who's hosting it makes improvements all the time.

for better visibility: turn down the ps3 browser res to -2.

well I've got chrome on my pc so I dont really use the ps3's browser. But I remember it being awful and crashing all the time.
s for whether chrome will be coming to ps3, who knows? Their response was even more vague than the rumour.

they sure didnt say no. i was mucking around the ps3 browser recently. the browser it uses was updated years ago, but because they control it through firmware, they never bothered to update it. either it had a security issue or they simply ignored it for they obtain a contract with google. but it does seam sony has not forgoten about there browser. so fingers crossed.

I like chrome and have no problems with it bar one, there is an internet provider web based live tv thing that i like to use and it does not work with chrome so I use IE for this and only this.If it does come to ps3 I would like to see that fixed.

Sony plans to return PS2 Emulation back to their PS3 gaming systems, being it be a slim 120GB+ or 40/80GB system. As we all know never had the hardware capabilities to enable this rare function. When we asked Sony for confirmation they replied ...

Would be cool if Chrome does come to PS3, it is not essential as the current browser does the job (in a clunky type way) and is good enough, but Chrome would be a big improvement and the little things like that just help to tweak the PS3 up closer and closer to it's best!

If it does come, hopefully we will be able to use Move as a mouse substitute as well. Navigating with a controller is always a bit slow. Although with Chrome on there I might get a Blue-tooth mouse and keyboard as well.

Why can people not just use a PC / Laptop for that stuff anyway? I just think that since PS3 has had the same crap browser for so long that I probably would not use it even if it does switch to Chrome...
