IGN: Is Homefront Possible?

Predicting the future can be a precarious ordeal. Just ask the developers at Kaos Studios, the minds behind the upcoming first-person shooter Homefront. In Homefront, gamers are exposed to a dark, dreary world set in the late 2020s where a unified Korea has overtaken the United States.

Anything is within the realm of possibility, sure. Maybe some day N4G will be full of tolerant and intelligent readers... But plausible? Like how IGN's pseudo geo-politics make it out to be? lol, no.

If North Korea were to ever actually attempt a takeover of the South they'd be stopped in their tracks by just about every Western military power in existence. The end.

jeeves865545d ago

Intelligent readers, eh? You didn't read the article, did you?

They didn't try to take over - in the game it's a "peaceful unification." An agreement by both sides.

And by "Western" you mean the US would try to put a stop to it? The future that Homefront describes puts the US in a position to do dick-all about it. The economy had collapsed, they'd need to deal with problems at home before they dealt with problems abroad. The entire world runs on crude - Canada sells its crude to the US and buys it back at market value, meaning they'd be in the same position as the US - too busy dealing with their own internal problems to deal with anything external.

Back in Napoelionic times, the French would have laughed their smug holes off at even the possibility that the Germans would turn into a massive military power, and steamroll the armies of France, Russia and Poland.
Cue 1939.

The British Empire used to govern over a quarter of the planets population (which included India, US, Canada, South Africa, Australia ect.) at its peak, nowadays the extent of their 'Empire' is Northern Ireland.

Shit happens.

Well in fictional HF universe, doesn't Korea grow in size by annexing everything around it?

Korea as is now is a flat no but if it were to grow like they say then why not?

CyberCam5546d ago

I'm surprised that so many Americans don't realize what's going on in their own country. It's not the Koreans the American people have to worry about, it's other forces closer to home... just ask one of the real militia groups that are preparing for the big show down.

It will all begin when they try to take away you right to bare arms...

If you do some research, you'll find that there are UN troops located on US soil (in several military bases) across the country.

I don't want anyone to take my word for it... please research it for yourself, you'll be surprise at what you find!

BattleAxe5545d ago (Edited 5545d ago )

Once China builds enough Aircraft carriers, it would be in the best position to invade the USA. The problem is that the U.S. government is broke while at the same time they keep borrowing money to support a $700 Billion military budget. Its not bad enough that the US started 2 wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but its now likely that they will invade Lybia so they can control their Oil resources, and the next domino to fall will be Iran, which I think could start WW3.

I'm absolutely disgusted that the Canadian Government is backing the US with everything it does Militarily. Apparently Canada has sent a Naval Frigate to join the U.S. off the coast of Lybia. I think that with the rise of China and the re-emergence of Germany, all of this crap is going to come to a head at some point.

CyberCam5545d ago (Edited 5545d ago )

Areed BattleAxe... I too am Canadian and I can't believe our Government has no backbone to say "No leave us out of it". But then again, most of the worlds Governments are controlled by the one entity... the bankers.

The Governments have to do what the bankers dictate... they are the ones funding the militarys and economies of your/our countries.

The ones with the money have all the power in this world! Hence, they control everything!

BattleAxe5545d ago (Edited 5545d ago )

The sooner they announce the Ron Paul/ Jesse Ventura Ticket for the next American election, the sooner the world will be much better off.

palaeomerus5545d ago

The answer to aircraft carriers is missles and we already have missles that can sink carriers pretty well.

The problems is the chinese are developing their own long range anticarrier missles and so we will soon not be able to cruise the pacific so easily without fear of losing carriers until some very reliable anti-missle countermeasure is found.

So soon projecting airpower may become much more expensive depending on jets that can both super cruise and refuel mid air and probably be screened by drones rather than carrier launched air craft.

@ CyberCam & BattleAxe
Agreed and bubs.

@PrimordialSoupBase

It always feels good to come in first place, but make sure you understand what is being said or you might get labeled as the most ignorant person here!

Answer: Theoretically... something like this is possible! However, I think it would happen a bit differently.

@Megaton... If I remember the storyline correctly, North and South combine. Unify with china. Take over Japan and Hawaii. Knock out the power with an EMP and invade from the west coast!

I can't believe they actually wrote this article.. waste of time if you ask me..

SpitFireAce855546d ago

Just what PrimordialSoupBase said...what do you
expect from the most IGNorant site on the net...

Megaton5546d ago

Korea? Really? How little do you have to know about the world in order to question the legitimacy of not only an invasion, but an occupation? Short of China becoming part of that "unified Korea", no, it's not possible.

Ascalon945546d ago

Korea is a starving country, practically 3rd world at this point. No way.

and they are hungry for waR! jk
