Dead Space 2: Severed Review | GameFront

GameFront: There are a few ways to make episodic DLC work. You can dole out small additional pieces to a larger story (Alan Wake). You can create a new, self-contained story within the context of a larger story (Mass Effect 2). You can even have a new, self-contained story that doesn’t really have anything to do with the larger story of a game (Fallout).

What? Did you even read the review?
"Dead Space 2: Severed is an attempt to combine the first and second options, and it fails miserably."
And you know, they gave it 2/10.

GrumpyVeteran5567d ago

Oh, what was that WHOOSH sound I just heard?

Pacman3215567d ago

Next time write /s or (sarcasm) please.
Sarcasm does not work on the internet :D.

This is the lowest score yet. Why the hate on it? Anyone who played it: Whats your honest opinion? I only heard it was kind of short and it's more of adding quests to the main game than added more than a couple new rooms to explre, sort of.

MysticStrummer5567d ago

I'd say this score is pretty harsh. It's obvious that this DLC isn't quite as polished as the main game, but I'm enjoying it. I don't feel compelled to sit and play it until it's done, so I don't know how short it is, but I felt the same about the main story. I haven't noticed any new areas, but you start in the mines and work your way toward the medical area, so you're at least taking a different route through the game. Lastly, as DLC goes it's pretty cheap. I'd lean more toward something around 8/10 for a score. 7.5 - 8.5 or something like that. If it's very short I guess it might drop to a 7.

gorebago5567d ago

I like this dlc -

it's more dead space 2: you get a new weapon, new suit, a mini-self-contained story, it's $7, new achievements/trophies

Idk, ive bought dlc in the past that cost more and offered less

Rhezin5567d ago

seriously I don't know why everyone is b!tching about this DLC. I'm going to buy it once I beat Dead Space 2 on zealot, (and once I can pull myself away from K2 multiplayer)

Esena5567d ago

Lol, a 2/10. No Dead Space game of any sort deserves a 2/10. Yeah, not even Ignition...

Dead Space 2's 'Severed' DLC Is the 'Sequel' You Probably Never Played

Dead Space 2: Severed is the culmination of a whole varied canon of wonderful sci-fi stories, which was abandoned in Dead Space 3. But that's OK.

It’s weird, that it was never released on the PC.

MadLad2321d ago

Yup. Played it on PC. Dead Space 1 and 2 are some of my all time favorite games. Didn't even know this was a thing.

Double_O_Revan2321d ago

I love Dead Space and I don't remember this either.

Unspoken2321d ago

Would love to see these remastered or a continuation of the series. I loved the comic short series they had to add to the story.

Dirtnapstor2321d ago

Played it. A remaster of all things Dead Space would be welcomed by me. DS1 & 2 had such a great campaign.

SmielmaN2321d ago

Agreed. Dead Space and Dead Space 2 are a couple of my all time favs.

Towers2321d ago

I would have thought that the success of RE re-masters would have convinced EA to remaster these for the next gen machines.

sprinterboy2320d ago

It's EA remember lol.
Mind boggles why no remake

AnotherGamer2321d ago

Its also very short giving the price and such.

Juiceid2321d ago

Sheeeeiiit. I’m one of the nut jobs that got that achievement for beating the game on the hardest difficulty with only using three saves for the entire run. I hope to play more Dead Space again before I’m old and full of arthritis!

Misa2321d ago

I did it too on three save for the entire run!
Hope we get to play Dead Space again.

P_Bomb2321d ago (Edited 2321d ago )

I remember doing Severed day one. It was actually a direct sequel to Dead Space: Extraction (Gabe & Lexine). Being that Extraction came free with DS2, throwing a coin to finish the fight was a no-brainer.

cool-got one thanks for letting me know

Rockefellow4859d ago

Even with all the hate 3's getting, I'm still a fan of the series. Didn't even know this was a thing, but I just picked up a copy from Amazon.

Gamerevolution: Best DLC Add-On 2011

What’s better than wracking your brain to come up with solutions to the most elaborate spatial puzzles ever thought up by the most deranged, egotistical, and homicidal AI this side of HAL 9000? Doing it with a friend, of course! Portal 2 gave us more than just a fantastic new single-player installment, which probably would have been enough to satisfy most fans in its own right. The multi-player portion represents an evolution of the original’s ingenious gameplay, allowing for even more complex puzzles with two players working in tandem.

... it's GOOD DLC, and it's FREE, so finally a developers who cares, respects and rewards it's fanbase, instead of nickel-and-diming it.

Huge respect for VALVE, and this kinda stuff earns them love and loyalty from their fans. Something too many other developers and publishers either fail to realise, or fail to care about.

Yi-Long5273d ago

...cause all their DLC is free as well, and they found a nice way to do so in-game, or else Microsoft would have demanded it to be content that users would have to pay for.

I love Team Meat.
