Destructoid: Operation Flashpoint: Red River preview

Destructoid: Back in 2009 Codemasters attempted to bring the Operation Flashpoint franchise back up to speed with Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. It received a mixed response from fans but earned a modest Metacritic score of 76% with mostly positive reviews from the gaming press.

Over a year later and Codemasters is due to release the next game in the series, Operation Flashpoint: Red River, which will feature absolutely no competitive multi-player aspects, a heavy co-op focus, along with gameplay mechanics designed to simplify and streamline the experience; is Red River the Operation Flashpoint game that fans and newcomers alike have been craving for?

hmmm.. Doesn't sound as promising as I had hoped. My heart sank as soon as the author mentioned that Codemaster's is "making Red River more accessible to appeal to the Call of Duty crowd." FPS fans don't need another mindless shooter.. I'm think many of us were looking forward to another thinking man's FPS.

I think it's safe to see, this will be a "rent it first" game when it comes out this April.

Some mediocre - crap games there. Couldn't even include any Codemasters racing games? It's the only thing they're good at.

Canadiangamernet4310d ago

Including the Dirt series in the bundle would have been awesome but i wouldn't say they are crappy games. I liked Overlord 1 & 2 and both Operation Flashpoint are decent FPS the other one are so so for me.

guitarded774310d ago

Like I said... crappy to mediocre. I liked Overlord too. Didn't care for Operation Flashpoint. But eve liking Overlord, I have no illusions that it isn't a mediocre game.

Even though it's still technically a good deal, the whole $5 or £4 thing annoys me. Humble bundle doesn't do this. No thanks.

Operation Flashpoint: Red River - The Shooter That Could Have Been The Greatest

Mobile & Apps: "One of the most underrated shooters of the previous generation was Operating Flashpoint: Red River for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. With all its problems, I believe this is a game that is worth playing, however, it is not too hard to see why the game didn't quite kick off, as it should have."

I liked it, didn't quite finish it though. Maybe I will now.

Loved this game, it was dumbed down from Dragon Rising but still an enjoyable game. Was still offputting to people looking for instant/non stop action

Ha! Some colleagues and I are actually planning on hitting this one up tonight. Great game.
