Crysis 2 Will Support Dedicated Servers

EA.com:

We know that we have a lot of enthusiastic PC fans out there and we think it’s awesome! A great community is something that every gaming company strives for. We also know how much our PC gamers love dedicated servers, and we’re pleased to announce that Crysis 2 will support them! Below you will find our server provider partners who, between them, will be offering global hosting:

I'm not surprised. Any PC multiplayer game worth anything features dedicated servers.

I wish more console games would have the same. As a console and PC gamer I would love to see more PC-like in-game stability in what are otherwise quality console titles.

I'm still wondering if Crysis 2 will only have 12 players on the PC version when it's using dedicated servers. Seems really low considering most of the shooters releasing this year will have much higher player counts. If the maps are that small that they need to have lower player numbers, I may have to pass on this game.

Pandamobile5584d ago

It'll probably be 16 or 18 for the Team Deathmatch maps, possibly 24 for the larger game modes.

BattleAxe5584d ago

Doesn't matter, the modders are going to screw up the game on PC anyway. People will be running around firing chickens out of their rocket launchers, and I'm sure that others will be flying somehow.

Fishy Fingers5584d ago

Chicken launchers? That's a pre-order in itself.

Pandamobile5584d ago

No shit, BattleAxe, that's part of the fun.

"24/7 Pier 17 Team Deathmatch w/ Chicken Guns Chicago"

I'd join that in a heartbeat.

thats at least some good news...i just dont want it to be like the beta...hopefully all those bugs are gone...this game has potential....we'll see what happens after it launches...

DFresh5584d ago

I was going to get Crysis 2 eventually on PC anyway so this is just a plus to an already excellent decision by me.
:)

Agent-865584d ago

I may pass on the game if it only supports 12 players on PC. That seems really low and it may be due to the maps being too small.

DFresh5584d ago

For me I want to play the story mode.
You know Steam will have massive sales and you could probably get it eventually for like $20 and hell Valve will throw in the option to get all the Crysis games for free.
Gotta love those Steam deals every year.

Crazyglues5584d ago (Edited 5584d ago )

Yeah sadly it's looking like I will have to get this on PC too, just because I want to be wowed by the graphics..

I just don't think they were able to pull that off on consoles with everyone saying that the Crysis 2 beta on xbox wasn't anything special, and since they haven't even shown the PS3 version-(Not to mention they are already comparing the Beta to killzone 2, yeah not KZ3 but KZ2- not a good sign)

I think it's safe to say they just didn't make an amazing Looking Console version.

So I hope they really focused and put serious attention on making the PC version amazing then..

but you never know because with companies like these they may have just watered the whole thing down, to try to reach a bigger market, and have the same experience on PC and Consoles- which would be sad.. - but we shall see..

When logic meets EA it generates anti-matter ..... so try not to apply it in any meaningful way. Entropy is what matters in there !!

cue the apologist saying that these are mostly just contractors hired for this specific project bla bla bla

The community warned them this would happen but nope they knew better they continued with the live service push the made the art style cartoonish and this is the result

isarai_lee89d ago

It's always so bizarre when studios announce something super early in development under the suggestion of forming the game to player feedback, and then they push against all feedback heading straight for the cliff while everyone is warning them along the way

US Lawmakers Urge Review Of EA Sale

The Congressional Labor Caucus sent a letter to the FTC warning the debt-financed, largely PIF-owned deal could be bad news for workers

lol ya think? they're sending all that work to the cheaper labor market as soon as possible. and FYI, that labor market has exploded in the last 5-10 years. They have enough people to replace every single job. But honestly, EA is over filled with useless upper management as it is. You could probably trim 25% of their staff with no real loss in production. They aren't gamers, they're business execs. Just look at how many AI related jobs they're already starting to post. Its also hilarious that PIF owns Battle field 6

Wait,

The same congress that attacked Lina Khan when she fought the Microsoft Activision purchase.
The same congress that allowed Disney to buy 90% of Fox
The same congress that allowed Liv Golf to buy the PGA
The same congress that sits back while Paramount tries a hostile takeover despite losing the bid for Warner Bros.

NOW, the suddenly cares about doing what's "right" for works? Yeah, right.

No. There were elections and some of the scum were replaced.

TheColbertinator123d ago

Different elections. Different scum. Same results.

i know its a long shot, but i hope this gets shot down.

EA now owned by The Saudis and Ubisoft to inevitably be owned by China. In hindsight, once EA and Ubisoft started having their financial woes, they should have pulled a Koei Tecmo/Bandai Namco by merging their operations into one.
