Well done, Sony. :)

smoothdude5577d ago

Sony, please don't stop in the global war on terrorism...er the global war on piracy.

Corepred45577d ago

Wonder what the hacker's next move will be, if any. I'm mostly just worried about everything being hacked and then me not being able to enjoy my games. Like MW2! Stupid hackers and their God modes. Completely ruined that game for me!

OneSneakyMofo5577d ago (Edited 5577d ago )

This is the first time I've ever seen a company fight so hard to try and win this battle. From contacting YouTube to donating a dollar to GeoHotz website to this, it seems Sony's in it for the long run. Apple, Microsoft, and Nintendo, take note. This is how you fight the good fight.

Edit: I'm reading the PS3 hacking forums right now, and these little kiddies are crying left and right. "Don't buy Sony products ever again!" LOL, too funny.

LeonVesper5577d ago

@corepred4
Sadly enough, the majority of the people who exploit MW2 simply run a program to exploit the system to ruin everyone else's experience. They are by no means a conventional hacker, but a script kiddie. They don't know the intricacies of the stuff they use THANKS to the hackers, they just run the program and if it works, troll everyone they see with the over 9000 shit they pull off.

Not all hackers are bad. It is simply people who just use the code for malicious intent, and not understand it who ruin everyone's day.

Spitfire_Riggz5577d ago

onesneakymofo

LOL as if they ever supported sony to begin with right?? Do us all a favor, "Dont buy Sony products ever again!"

Corepred45577d ago

Hey sneakymofo do you have a link to the ps3 hacking forums?

I_find_it_funny5576d ago

I heard this method works and goes downd, workd and goes down, all the time

saladthieves5576d ago

I want to read their angry forum posts...oh the looks on their faces!

R2D25576d ago

This is great that Sony is doing someting about these Hackers. The sad truth is that Sony is playing a tag game with the hackers and it will go on and on until the PS4 is relased.

Afro-Ninja25576d ago

@Egidem

What's more funny is the users on those forums with the same usernames on PSN. Add them as friends, take a picture of them using unauthorised software and then report.

deafwing5576d ago

wow, I have to admit, Sony is really putting up a fight with this ... impressive.

Keep it up, Sony. Sony's going to kick the arse of pirates far and wide, legally and digitally--they have the means and influence to do so. Enjoy. ^.^

TerrorCell5577d ago

Here ye here ye you Sony leg jumpers can finally rejoice because Sony has stopped the hackers. Hacking that would have no effect on your gaming experience as this generation is about 2 years from finished.

PirateThom5576d ago

So, that hacking in MW2 isn't affecting people's experience?

Sure.

Also, if I buy a game why should I be forced to play with people who haven't?

The Lazy One5576d ago

You may as well ask if you buy a game why should you be forced to play with people who have also. What about people who are borrowing it from friends or rent or got it for free legally?

not pro-piracy or hacking, but that's just a poor argument.

TerrorCell5576d ago

apparently PirateThom cant comprehend that you can borrow games from your friends...probably doesnt have any

the_kutaragi_baka5576d ago

meh, Sony still losing the hacker battle.

smoothdude5576d ago

I can't wait to see GEO Hotz go to jail :) BWAhahahaha

Vherostar5576d ago

Pirates are facing the reality of no online gaming if they want piracy and they jolly well should be. It's the price you pay.

Crazyglues5576d ago (Edited 5576d ago )

jidery5577d ago

Its nice that Sony is taking precautions to preventing hackers, it won't be long before it is hacker free again.

a_bro5577d ago

"hacker free again."

Sadly, that will continue, thats the reality of all this. people will continue to find ways to hack and ultimately pirate the games. There are people who do it for piracy, but threat of piracy is still out there by people who have no idea how much it takes to create a game.

smoothdude5577d ago

Until countries like South Korea and China enforce copyright laws, piracy will always be a problem. Putting GEO HOTZ in jail would be an awesome start though :)

Mahr5577d ago

"people will continue to find ways to hack and ultimately pirate the games"

Pirates aren't the ones who need to find a new method for anything at the moment. Online hole-plugging like this has literally zero impact on people who keep their systems offline.

Look_Behind5576d ago

Yea, Im just staying offline. I have my XBOX for online, the only online game I will miss on the PS3 is Warhawk

fooltheman5576d ago

The only way of supporting sony is to BUY their games...

All who pirate isn't a real gamer...

Octo15577d ago

Nah. As long as there are numb nuts with too much time and talent in the world, we wont see the end of hacking.

Myst5577d ago

One can only hope that the talent and potential will be utilized for something else.

ForeAllEternity5577d ago

I have my doubts on whether it'll ever be "hack free" again for the PS3. Hackers will always find ways to exploit. But as a consumer, I feel much more comfortable knowing Sony is doing something about it.

smoothdude5576d ago

It will soon be time for our monthly Firmware update with another security fix.

DBZOnePiece5576d ago

''Hacker free?''
You must be stupid or brain damaged. hacking will never end...never.

Vherostar5576d ago

Hmm it may be hacked for a long time or till the end however as for playing online?? I think that will be blocked so people will have to make the choice of online play or piracy.

Lol, oh I thought people would know I was actually trying not to be sarcastic with the second line.

...this comment seems sarcastic as well, wtf.

Mmmkay5576d ago

i want a refund on that horse. it's not that fast.

emk20045577d ago

hope they get there console banned for life.

theaceh5576d ago

who are you referring to SONY (US BAN) or Hackers? lol

emk20045574d ago

the people who steal games.

KingDustero5577d ago

Wow Sony really isn't going to back down. They get my respect. They are fight a uphill battle, but they aren't backing down. So far they're doing quite well. I hope they can keep it up.

I find it funny how all of these hackers are getting pissed at Sony and threatening them. Then Sony turns around and keeps on foiling their plans and getting closer and closer to catching them.

Looks like PlayStation took a hit with Marathon and is now quietly adjusting prices worldwide to recover the losses

andy8520d ago

Lets be honest raising prices doesn't do that when no one's buying it. I imagine the profit it greater selling 10 times more at a lower price

Pergele19d ago

Whatever you say buddy, let's all wear the tinfoil hats.

IceKoldKilla19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

LMFAO Your comment alone says a lot more about you than anything else. When has one game not selling 10 million copies made a company raise the prices of their console? Then Xbox would be costing $5000 by now lol. You remind of the crazy drug addicts on the street rambling on about conspiracies. xD You sure you don't need a hug, buddy?

ChunkyMonk19d ago

One game that Sony payed $200 million for. lol
Also, you sure were quick to get triggered. Maybe your the one who needs a hug?

Eonjay19d ago

If nothing else, we should be united against the real issue here. AI and unnecessary tariffs that are effecting all gamers.

Athlon10120d ago (Edited 20d ago )

The price increases are due to the RAM demand associated with AI and the US-Iran war. You can look to any business news website and local news to see that. Heck, even the 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo I've been eyeing has faced delays and has had a price increase of $400; that laptop has two specs. Asus is doing a staggered release with per-orders for the lower spec now and shipping in May and pre-orders for the higher spec that I'm eyeing starting in June. Basically, all computer manufactures are affected. It'll most likely start affecting smart phones too if it hasn't already. I can't remember the last time any major console maker (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) increased the price of their console mid cycle outside of Microsoft just to make more profit.

S2Killinit19d ago

Its not the war. Its the RAM issue.

jznrpg19d ago

War is causing gas prices to rise. Transport of everything requires gas so the prices of those items go up as well. So it does have an impact

Athlon10119d ago (Edited 19d ago )

The blockage of the Straight of Hormuz due to the US-Iran war has affected raw components used in semi-conductor manufacturing such as bromine, aluminum, and helium. Iran had attacked the liquified natural gas (LNG) plant in Qatar which is a large producer (1/3 globally) of helium which is used in semiconductor etching. So it's the both the war and the RAM crises.

badz14919d ago

Oh no...should I get the Pro now before the price increase?

I dont think that'll ever happen. But i must say back in the day, they were definitely trying because they were more cash rich than their competitors.

CosmicTurtle32d ago

I think MS were and still are the richer company. They tried to acquire Sega back in the day (and considered doing so again more recently), they obviously bought exclusivity to Halo which was originally shown as a Mac title. I don’t think as a company MS can claim the moral high ground here. It’s a wilful lack of self awareness.

Of course Sony would try exactly the same if they had the resources, but when the PS2 dominated the industry was in a much healthier place with an abundance of great third parties.

This has been a depressing generation as far as first party decisions are concerned. The fact we are debating business plans rather than which game is better is a sad reflection of the state of things.

Darkseeker33d ago (Edited 33d ago )

There was Nintendo as well, Sony wouldn't have had a monopoly. In fact, the world would be better today if Xbox never existed in the first place. They pretty much brought all bad practices we have today. We might have gotten all of it either way, but not this early. In term of franchises, I don't think there is anything Microsoft released that would actually be missed if it didn't exist. Even Halo the world wouldn't notice if Halo didn't exist.

S2Killinit32d ago

MS was definitely a bad influence on gaming.

raWfodog33d ago

I think almost everyone will agree that a monopoly is not good for the industry. But that being said, the competition needs to be smart and strategic with their business. Simply buying up publishers and traditional third-party studios just to keep them out of the other companies reach is not a sustainable practice. That goes for all parties so don't think I'm just referring to Xbox.

I'm no business guru by any stretch of the imagination but I firmly believe that the best way to drive consumers to your software and hardware is to invest smart in your first-party studios. Give them full support and guidance in making unique, fun games that are only available to play in your ecosystem and the gamers will come.

Reaper22_33d ago (Edited 33d ago )

But first party studios aren't enough. They only make up a small portion of the industry. Without 3rd party there would be no industry for Microsoft or sony.Developing games take time and money and sometimes you gotta make moves to stay competitive.

raWfodog33d ago

Nah, I never said first-party was enough. I said it’s the ‘best way’ to drive gamers to your platform. 3rd-party is a free-for-all and there’s no guarantee that gamers will use your hardware to play the game. If you want to push your own software and/or hardware you need first-party, or at least exclusive deals with third-party studios.

SimpleDad33d ago

They Shure did a great job... 25 years later Xbox is dead.

Reaper22_33d ago

Then why be so emotional and continue to talk about it. Xbox will never die be ause it stays in so many people's head.

lodossrage33d ago

How can you even see him being "emotional" in that comment?

If anything, you're the emotional one, constantly trying to go at anyone that says anything against Microsoft. So when you call him emotional, it comes off as deflection

Elda32d ago

I own an XBSX & I can say it's becoming irrelevant out of the 3 current consoles.
