Battlefield 3: Can it kill COD?

So, what do EA and DICE have up their sleeves? When dealing with dusty, dirty war in modern times, what needs to be done to truly revolutionise the genre and can COD be eliminated from the top spot by Battlefield 3?

Yeah for some but KZ3 is only releasing on PS3 so it is pretty much impossible for it to do COD sales.

Personally I wont look back once KZ3 releases.

EDIT: The only thing that can kill COD is COD. I think they are doing a great job of that BTW but I thought that before BO released and man was I wrong.

When I get games like Halo, Killzone, BFBC2 and try to tell my friends to play them it is always the same answer, "Those games suck, COD is the best."

Off Topic but kinda relevant. One of my (previous) favorite YouTube commentators ELPRESADOR recently did a video on Killzone 3. He trashes the controls and eventually went on to say that, "Every game needs to play like COD. COD controls should be the FPS standard." That is the problem with most gamers these days, they don't like something new and different. They rather play games like COD with massive amounts of auto aim that make them feel like they can aim when in reality they can't. Killzone and BFBC2 don't give you these assists, they make you work for your kills. /rant

Yi-Long5577d ago

... Personally I prefer the Battlefield gameplay, cause it allows for more freedom and to play the game the way YOU want to play it, as opposed to just running around in a small face frantically shooting at everyone.

I just hope they'll do the same thing with the DLC as they did with BC2 (FREE!), instead of following the Activision route of horrible DLC-milking...

Dumb question??? Nothing can kill any successful product because. the better question is....can it compete with it at a real level. and the answer to that is probably....it has a very good chance! =)

femshep5577d ago

@poison

its like the two worlds effect when the first on came out and everyone bought it they were all in denial that its sucked then they got over it...its the same thing with cod you can tell them all the things that suck about it (pretty much the whole game not to mention its broken)and they'll agree then still say its the best the fact that its released every year just lets them buy the new one and the cycle starts over

no just no , kz3 is awful.

jeseth5577d ago

I just hope BF3 and KZ3 make enough of an impact to make COD realize they aren't untouchable.

COD, in all honesty, is a great game. I just think that in recent installments (Black Ops, MW2 - perks/killstreaks) have tried to get too cute. Instead of trying to make so many changes to perks, killstreaks, and guns . . they should just enhance on the original Modern Warfare experience.

Like I said, hopefully KZ3 and BF3 can help turn the tide.

We'll see if the sales show up after all the COD complaining going on.

Yeah man R.I.P Cod.

There are just too many good FPS games comming this year and Cod wll problably not be one of them.

joydestroy5577d ago

KZ2/BFBC2 killed the CoD franchise when they released imo.
with KZ2 you have those crazy 32 player battles. i jumped on there last night and actually had more fun playing it over the KZ3 beta for that very reason.

BFBC2 with teamwork, squad spawning, and destructible environments makes it one epic game.

Motion5577d ago (Edited 5577d ago )

I really wouldn't want BF3 to kill CoD. Hear me out. I haven't played CoD since MW1, and have been a loyal BF fan for many years. Overall, I like the communities of the Battlefield games, and from everything I've experienced on ps3/xbox with CoD, many of the users are the most immature, obnoxious people I have ever come across. This might be because I play BF on PC and have only played CoD recently on consoles, but I digress. If BF3 kills CoD, all those people I can't stand will transition over, and I personally don't want to have to deal with them all.

jeseth5577d ago

Interesting perspective. I understand exactly what you are saying.

COD is like HIV, it cant be cured. Only suppressed. Hopefully KZ3 will do the job, if not, Battlefield 3 will get its chance.

Marked5577d ago

LOL this is the message that needs to be spread. If you play with call of duty you are bound to get HIV.

If you lay with a south african prositute.....

LOL HIV

KZ3 wont kill CoD. I can tell you that right now. Its an exclusive vs a multiplat. Obviously the multiplat will win since its catering to a wider audience. It might kill CoD on the PS3 if CoD didn't already do that to themselves though.

This year its going to come down to 3 multiplat games to take down CoD: BF3, Crysis 2, and Brink.(Sorry if I missed another fps multiplat. Those are the only ones I can think about...)

I think BF3 will be the biggest threat though. Brink might be the lowest since not as many people know about it. Crysis will probably make a big dent but wont take CoD down.

Marked5577d ago

agree, In all reality killzone has very little chance to do more dammage to the COD franchise then they already did to themselves. IMO BF3 might not take it down but will certainly widdle away at that wooden leg.

S_C5577d ago

I hope so as it will make activision rethink their strategy towards the COD franchise, and maybe lower thier pricing. Bit of compatition never harms nobody

GiggMan5577d ago

Not unless it has a great story apparently.....

lil Titan5577d ago

COD is dead to me thats all i know and care about

GodGinrai5577d ago

my thoughts exactly..MW2 killed cod for me. black ops took a running jump into the same grave..i stayed well away and hearing some of my buddies scream when they play that game made me realise i was wise to do so.Dont sound like they are havin fun to me..

Battlefield 3 Cut Missions From Campaign Detailed by Former DICE Dev

Battlefield 3's former Lead Designer has revealed that there were two cut missions from the main campaign

XiNatsuDragnel493d ago

I wish someone can get those EA game leaks to see all the cut content ngl

anast493d ago

Get rid of campaigns, move the game to mobile, and try to compete with warzone. They would save time and money.

Bf4 was fun hope the new bf is just as good.

Modern Warfare 3 flooded with cheaters after arrival on Xbox Game Pass

Players are using hacks to gain an advantage in the game, such as aimbots and wall hacks. The first gives a player superhuman aiming abilities, while a wall hack lets you see through walls to gauge where other players are.

“These hacks are typically used by PC players, but those playing on PC via Xbox Game Pass are identified as Xbox players in multiplayer lobbies.”

This is pretty dumb to say the least.

Cacabunga654d ago

All about them headshots for Xbox

badz149654d ago

Gotta pump those numbers up

blackblades654d ago

That's a WTF, they suppose to be labeled as pc users even if its on PC game pass. They mess that up big time.

XiNatsuDragnel654d ago

Oh bad this will be entertaining to watch

ZycoFox654d ago

If AI keeps getting better (and it will) it's just a matter of time before there's more sophisticated cheats even for consoles, and they wouldn't even need to be running on it, I have little doubt about that.

lelo2play654d ago

Don't Gamepass online games have anti-cheat systems?
If not, that's pretty dumb. Microsoft need to fix that asap.

Rynxie654d ago (Edited 654d ago )

They won't ever fix this problem, unless they (developers, publishers, Sony and MS) go after the cheat providers directly. You no longer need to hack consoles to use hacks. During the ps360 days, they were going after cheat devices, but it was a cat and mouse game. These cheating methods were around during those days, it's nothing new, but they kept it under control. Since the PS4/Xbox one generation, they stopped going after these cheating devices and it became widespread. Which I find odd, since they started charging for online play (PS4).

StormSnooper654d ago (Edited 654d ago )

Possibly, this is because the companies were going after cheats because the same cheats were being used to pirate the games, whereas today, the companies use online verification to prevent piracy, thus eliminating the need to go after people who cheat only to gain an advantage in the game. As long as the cheater remains below the radar, and does not completely break the game, the companies look the other way as their wallets are not threatened by it. (that is my completely Uneducated opinion on the matter)

pwnmaster3000654d ago

I mean, COD games was always filled with hackers, nothing new. I can’t blame MS on this. Activision had years to try and fix this. Might take MS some time to make some change.

Rude-ro654d ago

It all depends…
Microsoft’s guidance on how to handle gamepass on pc and their love to force crossplay with pc seems like a them issue.
And they own activision, so it is still a them issue.

StormSnooper654d ago

lol well that sucks.

Is there a reason this happened upon arrival on xbox?
