Alot of gamers are WAITING for these games to even buy a PS3. These games are system sellers (Killzone isnt yet but could be if its as good as its being hyped) and will push millions of consoles...ESPECIALLY in EU and JPN

But they need this holiday season. Now it seems like they just forfeited it. WTF are they thinking?

Its WAY too early to declare a winner in this war, the PS3 has been out less than a year. Maybe by 2009.

Alot of gamers do not know it took PS1 2 years to sell 10 million, no one would ever think that a console selling like that would reach 100 million. It took the ps2 only 4.9 years to sell 100 million. I would never count Sony out. No other manufacturer has sold 100 million home consoles. Even him saying this gives me a weird feeling. Sony may never look like it's dominant this cycle in the US, but as long as they continue their perfect track record this generation of reliable hardware, cutting costs in timely intervals, and responding to the game genres that microsoft fails to deliver, while giving Japan great country centric titles, they will win. Once the PS2 is rested, the PS3 won't have to share monthly sales with PS2. Also the high definition movie market may give them a edge in the next 6 months. You never know with Sony.

So far the biggest news for PS3 at TGS has been HOME delayed into 2008 and Rumble comming in 2008. More people would of bought PS3 if Sony simply hadn't delivered any keynote.

I'll buy your Xbox720 and halo 4 when that comes out in end of 2008 with a quad-processor and more ram packed in. who cares about advances in technology? just add more processing power and ram and you got a new system. and forget about the 360's support. just stop all the support for that one leaving all the 360 owners in the dust after you hit 20 million world wide.

MS and the Xbox 360 is looking like the only true choice here. MS thinks an additional 400K consoles will be sold in September, that's this month trolls!, but also by end of year we'll see an additional 3+ million consoles sold, DAMN!!

that MS wanted was to be first in this next-gen. Its why they rushed the 360 to a market hungry for nest-gen gaming. Well they are now 2nd and by the end of 08 they will be very close to 3rd.

The only reason to buy a 360 this holidays season is Mass (i will buy one just for that game). Ps3 lineup for this holidays season is better (get over it) and next year people migth say that 360 has a good lineup BUT Ps3 lineup for the next year is 10 times better than 360 lineup for this year.

If Sony does another price cut on Ps3 you will see lots of Ps2 owners jumping for the next gen cos guess what Ps fans dont have any interest in Halo and gears will come to the PC (its true get over it). Ps fans would be more interested in buying FF, GT, MGS, God of War, any game of Ico team, Rachet,....

Sony has the best 1st partie games and you wont see any 1st party games from Sony on Pc (thats the way that M$ does $$$$).

well duh, ya bringing out the biggest game in xbox history, hyping the hell out of it. Winning this Xmas does not make you a generation winner, you dont desever to win with your faulty hardware, i want halo3 but dare not buy an xbox for fear of it breaking. Dev's are starting to get some sort of grip on the ps3 hardware and i think we will start to see this in the games coming out 2008. i heard on the 1up podcast that burnout paradise will have effects on ps3 that the 360 just cant handle at 60fps(i'm not saying there wont be work arounds that make the 360 version look as good).

my personal view is that sony have waited for microsoft to get halo out the way before they start their big push for market share. I think E3 2008 will be the big one for sony.

It's amazing the support Sony has had, and continues to have, from its fanbase considering the difficult start the PS3 has had. There are fanboys, yes, but there are also alot of sincerely loyal consumers to this brand.

I just hope this doesn't get to Sony's head too much because those consumers wont be buying 3 consoles each.

WTF ok I'm torn in between the two. I believe the ps3 will eventually catch the 360, If things stay the same. Ok when the ps3 finally gets it grip on the Japanese market it will begin to close in on the 360, we all know japan are crazy about RPG, and quirky lil titles. by the time final fantasy 13,gt5 and stuff like persona 3 come around the ps3 will start to catch up to 360 worldwide install base face it guys. Microsoft has a good strategy, but what you 360 fans have got to admit, is that 360 strategy is just the west. I'm sorry, but it's true. All the games 360 owners enjoy are just big to westerners HALO 3, BIOSHOCK, GOW, R6v, Graw 2,Mass Effect, Oblivion, GTA content,Fable 2, Dead Rising, and Lost planet. The 360's biggest problem is Microsoft because they won't diversify their gaming library. While Sony's big games are more diversified and for every region. FFXIII, MGS4, GT5 big titles for both regions am I right? Killzone 2, SOCOM big for westerners. White knight story big for easterners and maybe the west. See how Sony's big games are spread across both regions? I mean why do you guys think Nintendo caught Microsoft so quickly? Duh there games transcend both regions just like Sony's games Sony's problem is they didn't get those games out fast enough. I mean can anyone honestly name me one title on 360 that would make me get it if i lived in japan? I mean we American gamers always say that japanese people are biased against the 360 because it made by Americans. Them not penetrating Japan is also some of their fault. look at Blue Dragon its a knock off of Dragon quest. So why buy it? WOuld you buy a knock off of Halo 3 with just different characters? No! but the 360 main problem is that all of their big games are for the west. Sqare has given them a little support with Infinite discovery and FF XI. but where is Microsofts first party studios at in helping the 360 in japan? they don't have any games in development that i know of.

MS have shot themselves in the foot here. What they're basically saying is that this gen ends after the holiday season...

Microsoft will claim they've won after this holiday season so that if Sony sell more PS3's after another year, MS can say, 'Ok you've won this year but we won last year', that's just sad.

MS have jumped the gun big time by mouthing off about winning the 'war'. The 360 has been out for 2 years worldwide, while the PS3 has only been available for just under a year in the US and Japan and only available since the end of March in Europe.

Well done MS you've just claimed to have won a year long 1 man race and then another year of riding off the first. Congrats on that, but next year marks the end of the 'pre-emptive strike' tactic by MS as the sales figures start dying down for the 360 and the PS3 takes off.

I honestly think that the 360 has a chance of winning this console war. Now dont get me wrong...I was (and still am) a huge Playstation fan. I've bought every great game released for the PS2 (Resident Evil 4, Guitar Hero 1 & 2, GTA 3-SA, + more) and I also bought my PS3 at launch, along with Resistance and Motorstorm.
But I have to say...things are looking bad for PS3 right now.

Here are some reasons why I think they have the POSSIBILITY of ending up in third place this generation:

1. Theres really only 2 games worth owning on the PS3 (Resistance: Fall Of Man and Motorstorm...should also mention Oblivion)

2. The remaining games on PS3 such as F.E.A.R., Rainbow Six: Vegas, The Darkness, and pretty much every other sports title are just ports from the 360, with most of them looking and running better on the 360 (only because developers have had more than a year getting used to the 360 hardware)

3. Alot of games right now that would be considered 'system sellers' (such as the Devil May Cry series, the Resident Evil series, and the biggest one of all being the GTA series, which is now actually considered 'better' on the 360 because of downloadable content) and are all deciding to go mulit-platform with simultanious releases on both 360 and PS3

4. The price. Now the price in America was $600 (now cut down to $500), but in Australia it costs AUD $1000 for the 60GB version, with no price drop any time soon.
Now this is probably the biggest reason for the poor sales so far, because when given a choice which would you rather buy...the 360, which in Australia is about AUD$600, or the PS3 at AUD$1000, when the 360 is pretty much equally as good as the PS3 in terms of graphics and gameplay, and sometimes even better than the PS3 (Gears of War in particular)

5. The decision to include Blu-Ray in every PS3 I believe was a big mistake by Sony. The only reason they included Blu-Ray in the PS3 was so that they could get the advantage over HD-DVD, because it would not only be the 'movie buffs' buying into Blu-Ray, but also gamers.
I would have liked to have seen the Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD war had it not been included in the PS3 (which I believe is the only reason Blu-Ray is beating HD-DVD).

6. The fact that Blu-Ray isnt really necessary for gaming right now. I mean when I first read about the PS3 and how it was going to include Blu-Ray (50GB of storage for gaming etc.), I naturally thought things would be over for the 360 before it even began, as Microsoft decided to stay with the standard DVD9 discs. But now when you look at the games on the 360 such as Gears of War, Mass Effect, Fallout 3, Bioshock etc. I started to wonder how developers managed to even fit all that onto a single DVD, when Sony spent all that time boasting that Blu-ray was 'essential' to games as they would naturally get bigger in size (because of more animations, voice-overs, uncompressed audio, HD visuals etc.) and would therefore justify putting Blu-Ray into the PS3.
Like when you look at a game such as GTA 4, it makes you think whether Blu-Ray was really necessary in the first place as it seems to be fitting on a single DVD disc just fine (unless they're bringing it out on multiple discs?)

7. And lastly....the PS3's online service. In comparison to Xbox Live, the PS network is nowhere near as good. Xbox Live is so much more intergrated and user friendly when compared to what the PS3 offers.
Game invites, gamer scores, downloadable content and friend lists are one of the major advantages over the PS network (even though PS Network also offers these things, except gamerscores)
Also the fact that there are 3 seperate Playstation Stores (one for Japan, one for North America and one for Europe) is also a pain because every Store offers pretty much the same stuff but with the Japan and US stores get content alot quicker than the Europe store

8. And the fact that Sony has focused more on winning the HD movie format war than they have on gaming so far

Now that we've talked about the negatives, here are my reasons why I want/think PS3 will once again win this generation:

1. Its future proof. When you compare the PS3 to the 360, the PS3 wins straight out in terms of life span and how much it has to offer in the future (Blu-Ray, which I'm 99% sure will become the standard for HD movies, the ability to acess everything on your PC, WiFi, tons of media options, accessing your PS3 through your PSP)

2. Games will not doubt be amazing in the future with all the power in the PS3. Whereas with the 360 I think the games right now, and coming out this year, have really only been more evolutionary than revolutionary and that the games on the 360, while they are still extremely good, will not get much better in terms of innovation (most of the 'anticipated' games are shooters, such as Halo 3, Bioshock, Gears of War, GRAW 2). Games on the PS3 sure as LittleBigPlanet, Lair, Heveanly Sword, and Uncharted all look awesome, and most of all innovative.

3. The 360 is aimed mainly towards the 'hardcore' gamers, which ties into what I said in the sentence above about most games being shooters etc. Whereas with the PS3, there are all different games that are aimed towards different groups, such as Heavenly Sword, Lair, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, Metal Gear Solid 4, inFamous, Final Fantasy XIII, and the awesome looking LittleBigPlanet.

4. Backwards compatible with pretty much all the old PS2 and PS1 games. With the 360 though, theres really only the main games on Xbox 1 that work on the 360 (such as Halo)

5. Firmware updates are always bringing in something new to improve the PS3. Now the PS3 is able to upscale DVDs to HD, access everything on your PC, upscale old PS2 and PS1 games to HD, have your own pictures as backgrounds plus alot more.

6. Online. I talked about this earlier but I never mentioned the positives. One of the best things about the PS network is its pretty much lag-free from what I've seen so far (Resistance is run on a dedicated server and doesnt necessarily mean every online PS3 game will be this good). The Playstation Store is also starting to catch up to Live Marketplace in terms of content but still has a long way to go. Making the Playstation Network have one unified friends list and server like on 360 would do alot for Sony if they fix this.

7. Its quiet. Compared to the 360's disc drive, which sounds like a harrier jet taking off, the PS3 is extremely quiet.

8. And lastly, the failure rate of the PS3, which is what...1%? Compared to the 360's apparent 33% failure rate (and the apparent disc scratchings), but hey, thats what you get when you try and rush the 360 to and try and beat Sony by releasing a whole year before of the PS3...hardware problems that weren't picked up on when the 360 was released. This I believe is one major advantage for Sony as people will think twice about buying a 360 because they pretty much have a one in three chance of their 360 getting the 'Red Ring of Death' (which I've already encountered a few times).

I do believe that the PS3 has a high chance of winning this generation yet again, just not right now. Give it about another year and I think the PS3 will pull ahead of the 360 once all the big name games are released (MGS4, Final Fantasy XIII, Gran Turismo, and GTA 4 which is unfortunately muliplatform) and the price has dropped resonably across every region (not just America)

As for the Wii, I think they are doing the unexpected and staying with current gen (last gen really) technology and are pulling ahead because of the price, innovation, and the people they're targeting (younger children and people that dont usually play video games (mothers, fathers etc.)) but I havent really considered them to be part of this console war.

But you only get what you pay for. If you think about games coming out Xbox doesnt really excite me. So iv turned to my PS3 and will be selling my 360 befor it breaks. Its the smart thing to do guys.

360 won last year, will JUST win this year but considering ps3's first year that isnt suprising. They will lose every other year until they announce and releaase new console which will probably break anyway

I like how they are trying to switch things around to make it look like their system is the one doing all the catching up, but in reality it's losing to the Wii and is almost a year behind it in sales. (Wii less than a year old has sold over $1 Million more units than the two year old X360.) And I hate the Wii...I would rather see X360 up there than the Wii, and I'm a PS3 owner.

ps3 just added warhawk to that ps3 expierence. they also have RACHET AND CLANK, UNCHARTED, SINGSTAR which does good in europe, UNREAL TOURNAMENT 3 WITH MODS and possibly extra maps BECAUSE OF BLU RAY.

sony has about 5 tripple a titles in its first year. RACHET AND CLANK ALWAYS GETS 9'S (IGN) UNCHARTED looks very promising and its naught dog. where as 360 only had GEARS late in its first year. and HALO, BIOSHOCK AND I GUESS MASS EFFECT IN ITS 2ND. ps3 in its second year has too many big hitters to name. WHICH SELL ON A GLOBAL MARGIN.

i still think the 40 gig ps3 is coming this year but why would sony announce that this early, because they would lose too many sales in short term.

final fantasy will sell LITERALY MILLIONS OF PS3'S IN JAPAN. (check previous history of those games)

and after halo, there really isnt anything that we see so far that can TRULY COMPETE WITH WHAT SONY HAS. alot of the things that was holding sony back was games (so many big hitters in 08) RUMBLE (Q1 08) better online (Q1 08) all through next year. all the ps3 problems will be history and those previous sony fans will come back. (not all since some games went multi but alot) sony plans things for the long run and once devs get use to the hardware, there will be some tripple AAA EXPIERENCES. sony is also good at bringing up new franchises.

I THINK BY 2009 THE PS3 WILL PASS 360 IN JAPAN. AND ALSO PS3 HAS ONLY BEEN OUT IN EUROPE FOR ABOUT 5 MONTHS, AND PS3 HAS ALREADY SOLD ALMOST 6 MILLION CONSOLES WITH NO GAMES, NO RUMBLE AND A HIGH PRICE GLOBALLY. 360 GOT 6 MILLION A ENRIRE YEAR LATER, WITH NO COMPETITION. SO THINK HOW THIS WILL TURN OUT.

Once again, this is Microsoft's whole plan. The 360 is doing worse than the the orginal xbox. What Microsoft has been doing is comparing their console sales to Sony's/ their games to Sony's on the PS3.

The price drop didnt come become because it would be seen as combating Halo 3. This fanboyism is all working to microsoft's advantage. Backing out of it, Sony takes the concentration off of them and puts it all on the 360. Is it selling better than the PS3? Yes it is.
Is it selling well compared to consoles in history? HELL NO. Considering that the console market is growing, its not.

If Sony admits that its not doing well and doesnt fight them since, currently Sony has nothing to fight with, then what is good about the 360? At 2 years sony will easily hit 11 million. It took the xbox 2.5 years. Without SOny the xbox will have to compare to past consoles, and from that standpoint its not doing well at all. Halo 3 wont outsell Halo 2. The install base is less. It wont push 2 million consoles at 279 each (and thats without hard drive)

If sony saves all of its money, fixes its 3rd party relations, and comes out gunning in the spring, the xbox is going to have a hard time. That way they wont compare the two titles anymore. It will be what it is on each if sony seperates from this "competition".

I know ill get disagrees for this, but if you can explain how microsoft passing the two year mark with the worst install base in recent console history (including gamecube) is being "almost there" then i would love to hear your explanation.

Even if x360 destroys ps3 this holiday season (and it certainly appears that it could, given sony's lack of high profile games/Home slipping)... that doesn't win the war. That's one battle.

"We're almost there?" To what? 2nd place? That's the same place they were in the last gen. So ending 2nd to Nintendo is their goal? And what happens after Halo 3? I love my 360, and I love the games they have on it... but I'll likely eventually get a PS3. So what's MSFT doing AFTER Halo 3 that are going to keep it ahead of Sony?

I was on the bus today and two kids were behind me. They were talking to each other about video games, then one says to the other "you have 360" and the other one is like "yeh" and his friend is like "I heard it gets errorers and stuff" and the other one is like "yeh, I only bought it for halo" then his friend is like "yeh I wanna get a ps3"..."same here it looks sick"

Even my friends that go to all the halo tournaments, etc. Agree that they would want a ps3 over a 360 but they just want the 360 to play halo 3. Yes, they will end up getting ps3 first as much as they love halo3. Just because they know that sony can deliver great games in each genre.

Mass Effect looks sweet though :D. Definately getting that...and halo 3. And uncharted...i got warhawk..now i just need heavenly sword. Sigh, I need 2 jobs :(.

It's funny how Sony screwed you over & you love them for it. Using vastly inferior arcitecture & bottle-necked ram so that Sony could keep costs low enough & delay the release of the PS3 just to Trojan Horse you with a dreadfully slow 4X BluRay laser & a cell processor dismissed & abandoned by both Apple & Microsoft.

With no titles that have reached the critical acclaim or sales records of 2006's GEARS OF WAR or 2007's BIOSHOCK (Next will be MASS EFFECT) a year after PS3's late release, watching Exclusives consistantly & continually lost to M$, game delay after game delay, inferior multiplats on a system that is more 'powerful', framerate issues, no rumble, no achievements, pitiful selection of demos & content, lost Betas, a far inferior online gaming experience, watching Sony get busted lying to you over & over & over, getting crushed in software sales, & consistantly outsold at least 2-1 in hardware sales, paying $600 for the #3 console... it's just sad. It seems the Sony kids are either too dumb to realize the obvious truth, or too proud to admit they were wrong.

All SONY talks about now is Home, BluRay, the cell, we'er finally adding rumble, we'er going to copy M$'s achievements... WHY AREN'T THEY CONCERNED ABOUT GAMES ??? WHERE ARE THE GAMES SONY ??? Is this a cheap 4X BluRay movie player or a Gaming machine ???

Sony won't die it will drive down sales but as soon as MGS4, KZ2, and Eight Days comes out it will just make up those sells and triple.
Lastly have you noticed everyone that E3 was talking more about Killzone 2 than Halo 3 to me KZ2 eats every game that's coming out in graphics and FPS game play.
MS only has Mass Effect, Bioshock, GOW, and Halo 3 has exclusives the rest are all multi platform so MS doesn't have the full edge in games at all.
Sony will win by late 2008 and on so it's done.

Before you accuse me of being a fanboy, know that I love my 360, and my PS3, play both on a regular basis, and have never experienced any problem with any of them.

That being said, let me get on with my point.

Shane Kim is by far my least favorite executive for any of the big three. He is full of CRAP. Not only because he is arrogant (like most execs), but he also trash talks the competition, especially Sony. There is no doubt that Microsoft beat Sony in 2007. But just because they won 2007, doesn't mean the PS3 is out of the game.

how could the race be over by 2010. who wants another console in that amount of time. the industy and the consumer cannot handle a new generation of conoles every 4-5 years. its too expensive for consumers and devs take a while to make games and push systems to their limits. this console war is messed up because ms needs another console by 2010 to keep up with bluray and the ps3. thats not going to work out well for them.

IF Shane actually meant that X360 will win the console war against PS3 at the end of this holiday season then is say he needs to learn basic maths. Heres my point

Previous generation worldwide home console market
PS2 = 117 million
Xbox = 24 million
Gamecube = 21 million

Total = 162 million at most so minus say 20 million for defective and 2 or more purchases per person then.

Total = 142 million (under estimate number)

X360 = 11.6 million
Wii = 11.6 million or more
PS3 = 5 million

Total = 28.2 million.

Ok then granted that the market hasn't grown since the last generation(which i doubt alot).We still have 113.8 million people that haven't bought next gen consoles yet. So this means that 80% of the market is still unaccounted for at the very least.

If MS manages to sell 14 million x360 by the end of this year then that means that they would sold more than half of what they sold last generation with the xbox 24 million. So in conclusion boys and girls.If Kim declares this a victory over Sony then Kim needs to learn basic maths.

For this holiday season PS3 will not lay down and die with RC and Drake keeping the margin of win for X360 respectable. But next year and onwards it will be all PS3 unless Bungie resurrect Master chief and do another halo 4. Yes x360 will have splinter cell, NG2,Fable, Mass effect and GeoW2 but PS3 will have way more established franchise returning that will dwarf all of them.

I hear rumor that Microsoft will release no games in 2008, stop innovation, and pull out of gaming altogether because of the POTENTIAL of the PS3. They're really THAT scared! </sarcasm>

Please people. If you look at console history any console that is second to market stays that way. History is not in Sony's favor at this juncture. This mythical 'potential' that the PS3 has will not sell consoles. Until Sony can repeatedly roll out AAA titles every month or two then they will remain behind the pack.

The PS3's biggest problem isn't even the Xbox 360, it's the Wii.

I am just amazed how people forgot about Ace Combat 6. That alone should conver 1, 2, or 300 sony gamers. If i saw Steel Battalion Loc:2 come out on the ps3 I would go out to the store and snatch that system up. And yes thats one game I would want no matter who made the system.

Im glad I dont have a console the relies on one game as much as M$ does Halo.....Atleast Sony and Nintendo have their handfull of franchises out their. Plus I can play "shooters" ten times better than Halo on a pc. Sony is a patient mans console while the 360 is a NOW NOW NOW mans console.

Most people I know wanted to go next gen now bought the 360 but others like myself waited and got the PS3. If you look at which countries that are stereotyped as impatient these are the US, UK and Australia the only areas that are selling the most 360s (before the Halo hype started)

There are a lot of PS fans who are waiting for the price to come down as we saw at the first price cut. The sales went through the roof and the 360 didn't get as high sale with their price cut.

I know a few people who bought a 360 while they are waiting for the PS3.

To truly win the 360 need to control the 3 major markets not just the US and a loosing grip on Europe.

WE need to wait for the Heavy hitters next year to confirm if the PS3 will win or remain like the gamecube last generation for one thing I an certain Playstation will not fail and will not go away.

In the best of cases, it made online gaming mainstream, and some FPS took a few shots at imitating Halo. But it didn't really revolutionize anything. Its only achievement is sales, which are based on hype.

Just like the first one being remade, using UE5💩 MS with all their money couldn't get ID Tech 8 and modify it to work with the Halo remakes? 😑 If they did I'm 100% sure it would run as good as Doom The Dark Ages. I can see the performance issues already. As DF Alex puts it "stutter struggle".

I just hope they're good. Halo CE remake looks very good, so this could be good for Halo.

Of course, let's go with the Nintendo way.

Considering Halo 3 never got the remaster treatment, I strongly support this endeavor. Let's give Reach the remake treatment at some point, too.

Not for me personally, I enjoyed the Master Chief Collection, but not enough to invest in the remakes, the MCC still feels relatively new to me.

A lot of people asking for Multiplayer, just go by an Xbox, hell, almost any Xbox, or get a 1/2 decent PC, then if you really wanted to play Halo, you can play all of them.

MS multiplatform situation has really show that people talk so much smack it's not even funny, people go on how exclusives sell consoles, but I see it's only to a small degree, people usually go with where there friends are or the hype surrounding something (Nintendo is the exception). A lot of PS fans bought Forza, GoW:Remake: Sea OF Thieves, and PS Fans bought Grounded, in fact these MS games were dominating Sony sales charts...so if exclusive sells systems, why didn't Sony fans buy an Xbox to play these one time exclusives, that they clearly wanted to play?
