Creators industrywide sound off on platforms, the Kinect, and Western games.

EA is laying off an unknown number of individuals from across its Battlefield teams, including workers at Criterion, Dice, Ripple Effect, and Motive Studios, IGN understands.
When logic meets EA it generates anti-matter ..... so try not to apply it in any meaningful way. Entropy is what matters in there !!
cue the apologist saying that these are mostly just contractors hired for this specific project bla bla bla

The free-to-play reboot topped 15 million players in under three weeks, but EA now claims it needs to reshape the development team.
The community warned them this would happen but nope they knew better they continued with the live service push the made the art style cartoonish and this is the result

The Congressional Labor Caucus sent a letter to the FTC warning the debt-financed, largely PIF-owned deal could be bad news for workers
lol ya think? they're sending all that work to the cheaper labor market as soon as possible. and FYI, that labor market has exploded in the last 5-10 years. They have enough people to replace every single job. But honestly, EA is over filled with useless upper management as it is. You could probably trim 25% of their staff with no real loss in production. They aren't gamers, they're business execs. Just look at how many AI related jobs they're already starting to post. Its also hilarious that PIF owns Battle field 6
Wait,
The same congress that attacked Lina Khan when she fought the Microsoft Activision purchase.
The same congress that allowed Disney to buy 90% of Fox
The same congress that allowed Liv Golf to buy the PGA
The same congress that sits back while Paramount tries a hostile takeover despite losing the bid for Warner Bros.
NOW, the suddenly cares about doing what's "right" for works? Yeah, right.
EA now owned by The Saudis and Ubisoft to inevitably be owned by China. In hindsight, once EA and Ubisoft started having their financial woes, they should have pulled a Koei Tecmo/Bandai Namco by merging their operations into one.
Its a good read. I can understand why Japanese devs shift so much towards handhelds. They are cheaper and have a much bigger market. I am interested to see how 3DS and PSP 2 do there.
I wouldn't say that handhelds will out do consoles though because perhaps the most important factor of a handheld is battery life.
One thing I thoroughly agree with though is that Japanese devs do not need to change to Western cultures. Changing DMC like that is actually making matters worse. Always consider the core fanbase and your games should do fine.
Let's ask Japanese Devs why they keep remaking the same games. DOA Xtreme Beach Volleyball for the PSP and the upcoming DOA for 3DS. All with the same graphics design and same voice actors. Nothing has changed. Let's just give them the same game again. The Next Tekken game. Yep, the same game. There's no thinking outside the box. There's no innovation and since very few complain and buy the same shit again. They keep making the same shit over and over again. It's a vicious cycle.
Japanese devs have become irrelivant really outside the handheld/wii market.I can count on one hand the amount of Top quality games that have been released on the x360/ps3 which is a shame when you think of the awesomeness they showed last gen
School girls, Big swords, Talking animals, Hentai and Godzilla.
japanese devs make more innovations than west..look at Okami, Viewtiful Joe, Vanquish, Bayonetta, Kirby's epic yarn, No more heroes, super mario galaxy 2, metal gear solid titles... it's not another "go go go!", "fire in a hole" like COD, HALO or GEARS.. (go go japanese) :) don't make westish games! :) can't say that there aren't good west games too (god of war series, they are fun but same mechanics, only better graphics and boss titans battles with good visuals...heavy rain is great too, but too many FPS'es) :/
