About time, looks like the hackers for Kinect will have to switch.

Active Reload5627d ago

I wouldn't be surprised if it cost more than Kinect if it has better specs. But hot damn, if it don't look just like Kinect, lol.

zootang5627d ago

Is this the same company that tried to sell the Kinect tech to Nintendo and Sony?

El_Colombiano5627d ago

Sony already had Kinect technology years ago on the PS2. Nintendo saw what it had to offer before too, and they knew it wasn't a good way to play games so they didn't go with it.

Bigpappy5627d ago (Edited 5627d ago )

That was 3DO being demo,ed on PS2, and was also pitched to Nintendo (too expensive). Apple are the ones who gave Primesense the run around. Do you guys read up on this stuff or do you just watch the videos on youtube?

M$ has a legal agreement with Primsense. Primesense is making more money than they ever dreamed of from the Kinect deal. I am sure there well be no public conflict here.

blumatt5627d ago

Yeah, it sure does like like a Kinect. lol And I bet they are making a shitload of money off of Kinect right about now. All a man needs to do is come up with a good idea, patent it, and watch the cash flow in. **Starts brainstorming** lol

<<Sony already had Kinect technology years ago on the PS2.>>

The PS2 had a depth sensing device? First thing I hear. Do you have a link?

Interesting, they licensed the tech to MS and then went into direct competition with them (you know MS had always planned on using kinect on PC eventually).

aaaaaaaaa5627d ago

well that will teach M$ not to keep treating PC gamers as 2nd class all the time. I hope its cheeper than the 360's version that would be kicking them where it hurts.

ATi_Elite5627d ago

Not gonna lie the Kinect exercise games are really really good.

This is just an attempt to cash in on selling hardware. these cameras are nothing more than over priced under performing web cams with 3D motion sensing software.

In plain english I have a web cam that does the same thing as Kinect but only costed me like $50.
The software side has yet to show anything mind blowing, like I said I love the Exercise games but using laggy motion control to do anything on my Pc is out of the question. Why flail my arms after a hard days work when i got a remote.

Maybe it's just me but I have seen NOTHING that says OMG i gotta go get that in respect to Kinect and it's Pc application. you can play ALL Wii games on your gaming PC very well with Wii motes. i have a friend who's PC won't operate until the camera recognizes his face. Like I said this tech is old and it's uses for games is pretty linear.

I see no WOW factor in this at all.

FrankMcSpank5627d ago

Similiar device from the company that made Kinect? Does MS own the rights to it? I heard Kinect was coming to PC officially, but this is different. Could this mean a Wii-Vision Camera or EYE3?

fr0sty5627d ago (Edited 5627d ago )

Exactly, this shows prime sense has not intention of remaining exclusive to MS. They went into competition with them by releasing this FFS. While the exact tech in kinect may have some kind of console exclusivity, if this generation has taught us anything, that means nothing. A little change here and there to the way it works and suddenly you've got a loophole you can exploit in the contract.

Kinda like how Netflix had to use the disc in the PS3 until their contract for netflix downloadable software with MS expired.

Tinasumsum5627d ago (Edited 5627d ago )

Why would this camera with lower specs compared to Kinect be used for gaming? This camera has lower specs because of Rights. Microsoft has patents on software aspects of Kinect so companies can't copy its full potential or mimic its functionality to the fullest the way Microsoft will be evolving the tech with software. The WAVI Xtion camera is missing some of the hardware and software that Kinect has for a reason. You guys are acting like one company came up with Kinect and them was purchased when 3 different companies dreamed up Kinect with hardware and software. Microsoft, 3DV Systems and PrimeSense. There has been Kinect-ish software on windows for forever called Ease Of Access granted no where near as evolved as Kinect's operating system softare.

FrankMcSpank5627d ago

So the camera doesn't tilt? That justifies the patent. Cause the actual camera quality of the lens and system is poor on the Kinect. The colors are about the same as the VisionCAM. That 120hz system was removed to get cost down to $58 a system so MS could get their profits up on this $150 periphrial. This aother cam tech is welcomed to the PS EYE which can run at a full 120 frames. TinSumSum you are either overly defensive or overly trollish.

Tinasumsum5627d ago (Edited 5627d ago )

Just the camera tilt? did you even read the specs for both devices? I feel the 'Me Too' from that rant I always thought that was one of the reasons PS3 fans hated Kinect so bad. Envy not dislike. If you're making that 120hz crap up because you're trying to say EyeToy can do that, Eyetoy Only performs video on that level not for anything gaming related.

Your Stealth trolling is so visible and bitter. Go google Kinect no need to bait the rest of the fanboys into a damage control bashfest frenzy. I guess what you aimed out to do worked reading all of frosty's comments in here. I bet you baited frosty and then agreed with him with his PS3 fanboy rift raft comment that is ignorant and bitter. This is nothing new PrimeSense announced they are bringing the basic tracking camera to consumer products ages ago.

redwolf5627d ago

this will open a whole new genre

Agent-865627d ago

Nah, I like women in bathing suits, but hate motion controls.

MK_Red5627d ago

I want my women without the suits (bathing or not) and controls without the motion.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio31d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing31d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9231d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit31d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing31d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9231d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
