the beta right now is really fun...aiming is much easier in kz3 imo...the only complaints i have is the matchmaking...i have ended up in matches where its 5v1 or 6v3...people are saying that the guns are underpowered, i dont think they are, it all depends on where you are shooting the enemy player...the unlock points at this time feel awkward...having the m82 right off the bat in kz2 and now needing to play a considerable amount of time to unlock it was new and it makes you get used to weapons that you rarely used in kz2...thats the experience i have had

the ribbons are a nice addition, but i feel the classes have been changed up completely from kz2...the infiltrator and marksman have totally been changed up, that is to say you gave more options with how you can use those classes...i wonder what GG has in store as the game comes closer to its release

deadreckoning6665663d ago (Edited 5663d ago )

The beta is great, it fixed pretty much all the minor problems I disliked in Killzone 2. The game is more accessible which is a good thing, but its a little too easy to shoot someone from across the map. Besides that, I can live with the new controls. Its a little more COD like, it makes the game a lot faster than KZ2..and dare I say, more fun.

KZ2, at this point, takes more SKILL but I'm sure GG will add more recoil to the guns. Either way, the controls are easy to get used to. I lowered the gun sensitivity to 20%, which is just a tad more sensitive that KZ2 was.

"And the guys using the Mechs, how can you kill them more efficiently without destroying the Mech?"

I hear everyone talking about Mechs. Where are they? I've been playing the same Skirmish mode on the same map this whole time.

-Alpha5663d ago (Edited 5663d ago )

They are in the Corinth Highway map, there's like 2 that spawn per base. You honestly can't miss them.

They are problematic though. They can regenerate health, have unlimited ammo, and people use them to rape the ever living crap out of spawns. http://www.youtube.com/watc...

This is the problem with the new spawn system, but it's there for the more casual style Killzone 3 is aiming for. The problem is that while spawn nades worked well, they lead to serious camping issues and people throwing nades beside each other. It's the same issue with K3-- but spawn camping is worse because everybody knows where your spawn is all the time, and a team can easily dominate the entire spawns.

Spawn nades work perfectly fine on paper. But the community was too stupid to use it

@Cevapi

I don't like the ribbon system. It's like permanent killstreak/perk rewards that buff up your character. It's not a good idea at all, it makes no sense for people to join a game late and then have to play with people who have advantages like that.

The beta needs a lot of work, but the spawn system is the big issue here. Once a team gets both spawn points you are forced to spawn only at your base. It kills the pacing for some modes like S&D where you end up walking one by one to the objective, only to die by the team waiting for you to plant the bomb, and then start all the way back from your base.

The pacing is completely opposite from K2 where you would throw spawn nades in the objective area and then have a chokepoint of grenade spamming and all that. GG needs to find that middle line.

You can't even fight back to get a spawn point either, once you lose your spawn points the other team pushes you back and spawn camps, especially with the mechs.

Strange_Evil5663d ago (Edited 5663d ago )

@Alpha... Ya I agree 100% with those complains... They need to be addressed ASAP IMO especially the overpowered Mechs which regenerate health WTF... And the Spawn system should just be like in KZ2 except in S & D, there should be a limit set to how close you can spawn to the destroy point since it becomes too much chaotic if both team get Spawn points next to each other at the destroy point...

Getting used to the leveling system....

And IMO, I kind a like the ribbon system in-game... Giving them permanent would really unbalance the game since the faster reload and better aiming perks really can make you a juggernaut... Would be unfair on new comers...

@Thillreborn below.... Dude he is trying to address the right things mate.. Play the KZ3 beta and you will understand... If those things land up in the final game, then get ready for some really unbalanced games where a mech camps at your spawn point and beats the living day light out of your team...

Better get your opinions heard... That is what a beta is for. As of now there are some serious issues that need addressing.

THILLREBORN5663d ago

@Alpha
This is the second thread I've seen you trying so hard to tear down Killzone. I can tell based on your comments that you got pissed and raged quite...those issue sound shitty and all but I have yet to read one positive comment from you about the beta or the series as a whole. I'm starting to think your trolling for attention because every thread you come on and talk nothing but negative points...how about trying to not be so much of a broken record. I'm not trying to tear you down but you seem like a very negative person in general.

Cevapi885663d ago

as far as the mechs go, i think that there should be a dead zone for each base camp, if a mech enters that area the enemy mech would start taking on damage, the longer you stay in the dead zone, the more damage you take until the mech blows up...that will deter players from trying to camp at the enemy base

RememberThe3575663d ago

I have to take Alphas side on this one. I'm a huge Killzone fan. I've been hooked from the first game and I loved Killzone 2 (it's my favorite shooter). Everything Alpha is talking about needs to be dealt with, though. It's not about bashing the game, the game isn't out yet. It's about sharing his experience with the beta. It's still a beta and from what I just learned from the Medal of Honor beta is that you can't judge a game by it's beta. The team is trying to strike a critical balancing act, this kind of tough love feed back will only help the team identify issues that can be corrected before launch, or soon after. If no one speaks out nothing will be fixed.

-Alpha5663d ago

@reborn

I am going to treat a beta like a beta and criticize anything I have an issue with.

I'd rather bring up legit concerns over praising the game all the time like everybody else here.

Explain to me how I'm trolling, please. Because I'm being negative?

I don't like the beta. I don't like the new direction. And there are many issues with the game. If you have a problem, address the actual claims I make

Not really. You just need 5 unlock points which I used to directly get the m82. I'm just sad it's exclusive to medics. I think Tacticians deserve it just like before. It's easily my favorite rifle and Tactician was my favorite class. But now looks like it will be Medic just because of that. Yeah I love the M82 that much.

Cevapi885663d ago

in the beginning i was just trying out all the classes to see how they played...for some reason i could not get used to the engineer class and moved on...from there on i used my unlock points for the infiltrator class and then i began looking at what each class can unlock...when i saw that the medic was the only one who could use the m82 i began building up points to get the rifle and from then on ive been doing very well winning a lot of games...

Odin7775663d ago

I don't really understand people's problems with the mechs. Yeah they regenerate, but they are quite easy to destroy. Just don't stand out in front of the damn thing and you should be able to take one down (especially with a rpg). I believe you can kill the pilot as well, without even destroying the mech.

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 5663d ago
ALFAxD_CENTAURO5664d ago (Edited 5664d ago )

Recoil, that kind of details is lacking in weapons.
Especially the LMG.

The balance of teams like Cevapi88 said.

The ability of the Infiltrator I think, which can see enemies behind the walls is not a nice addition.

And the guys using the Mechs, how can you kill them more efficiently without destroying the Mech?

-Alpha5663d ago (Edited 5663d ago )

The Tactitian is the one who can scan and spot. And as far as I know, that's a bug. Which should have been fixed already, especially before the + members started playing.

It's a gamebreaker right now. Stand still, spot and scan and you see all the enemies. It's like Heart beat sensor without the delay.

The infiltrator, I'm pretty sure, is the Saboteur.

Use the marksman to shoot the people out of the mech. It's damn hard because mech users camp and usually spawn rape. The best way to take out a mech is to use your own mech

Rainoffire5663d ago

The must agree that the Recon ability is quite strong. Though, I believe the Tactician was meant to counter the Infiltrator/Saboteur.

The Infiltrator is the class that I usually play, since it is the only class with the STA-52. The disguise for the Infiltrator is harder to detect than it's Saboteur counter part. Also with the final Disguise upgrade, Melees don't disable the ability. Going on a melee spree is fun, but I feel sorry for the receivers.

As for mechs, I believe they are easy to take down once you get the VC9 Rocket Launcher for the Tactician and Infiltrator. One direct shot to the front and it is over. It either destroys the mech, if the Exo was damage in any way, or just kills the driver if the Exo lives.

pupa5663d ago

Not possible if they basecamp the spawn point and destroy every respawning mech before it can be monted including you.

lukewind5663d ago

Killzone 2 was forgotten within a year and I don't see Killzone 3 doing any better. Shooters are just not good on the PS3. The controller is just bad for shooters. I like my PS3, but I dont bother playing shooters on it.

ALFAxD_CENTAURO5663d ago (Edited 5663d ago )

Actually, you don't bother to play shooters on PS3.

Killzone 2 is not even forgotten, why are you lying to yourself?

I forgot, you are only another Multiple troll account.

Welcome to N4G, again.

-Alpha5663d ago (Edited 5663d ago )

I think the PS3 shooters like Killzone and Resistance lack in many areas and I just wasn't as fond of them. I played K2 for a long time, liked it a lot, but K2 lacked a community strong enough to support things like DLC. That's an issue with the rest of the PS3 crowd. If they don't support the game, then the game will obviously suffer. It's clear PS3 fans, and fans in general prefer COD. While I liked K2, I had too many issues with it and most others quit when they were frustrated early on with the controls.

I don't see Killzone 3's MP being any bigger or more supported like GG is trying to do than K2. Some of that is because the game just doesn't suit the majority of PS3 fans. I think it's a mistake to go after a "wider" audience, and I think Insomniac learned that well as they've said.

SOCOM is the crown shooter on the PS3 and I honestly think that that is the game that will be the real shooter exclusive king for Sony. It's not getting much hype over Killzone and I think it should. In terms of being more competitive, in terms of a dev group having more experience with MP, etc. I think Socom 4 is the game people should put their money on.

Heavy_Rain5663d ago

SOCOM may be the crown shooter and most of us KZ fans dont care if kz is not the shooter king in the ps3. Fact is those hardcore loyalists who play kz2 played so because of the wonderful sense of immersion. I cannot count the number of hours me and my friends devoted to warzone. The fact remains kz2 as much as you would like to think is a failed franchise has a meta of 91 and where almost every single reviewer fell in love with the multiplayer component. Its not perfect but neither is COD or any other multiplayer on any other shooter. They all have their pro's and cons.
KZ fans want the killzone series to sell enough to continue and have a good enough community to keep the series alive . From a review score standpoint I def know kz3 is going to easily defeat the likes of black ops and get critical acclaim. unfortunately from a sales perspective I dont know .

THILLREBORN5663d ago

More and more your comments prove you as nothing more than an XBOT...I doubt you even own a PS3. You hate on it's exclusives...oh wait I remember you now you are a troll that I have come across before. You use troll propaganda and claim it's logic. Get a life and stop trolling PS3 exclusive threads...it just means you have spent way to much time in your moms basement wacking to Dead or Alive characters.

Snakefist305663d ago

When I see a Killzone article Alpha-Male22 is the only person I know who criticise the game alot.He is always bitching abut the controls,Coop and MP alot. Not only killzone but every Exclusive Shooters for PS3.

RememberThe3575663d ago

Jesus... Stop bitching guys. I'm so tired of everyone being so damn defensive of their precious PS3 exclusives. I'll be the first to tell you that the PS3 has the best exclusives but I've talked to Alpha enough to know he's not a hater.

You guys just take every criticism as hate, and that is far from the case. When you actually think about this stuff it makes sense. But you guys are so hung up on this fanboy crap that N4G sucks you into that you can't take some simple legitimate criticism.

Open your eyes and see that no game is perfect. No matter how much I love Killzone 2, there were flaws in it. Why would I not want to see that improved upon? And how are devs going to know what we don't like if we don't talk about it because of this weird gamer dogma?

gypsygib5663d ago

You must have some dexterity issues because I can play shooters just fine on both PS3 and 360. I prefer the 360 controller but if you can't aim properly on PS3 it's probably not the controllers fault lol.

And I logged more hours into Killzone 2 in 3 months than I did with MW2 of even BFBC2 in 6.

Pandamobile5663d ago

Yeah, whenever I play KZ2 there's only about 20 games available in my region and a lot of them run retarded rules like "PISTOLS ONLY"...

-Alpha5663d ago

That's why they took the server list out. Honestly, you can't have a server list if the community is so small. It runs the risk of having the problem you outlined. I also hated the fact that people would make custom games like that, especially long ones that would go on for upwards of 40 minutes.

I like the matchmaking system, but I'm disappointed that there is no custom game support. Again, this is an issue with community. Games like Halo have a huge one to support a variety of playlists and custom games. Killzone doesn't. This became evident to me when I couldn't find DLC games. It's unfortunate, but that's the truth.

JacobIsHollywood5663d ago

Maybe that's because Killzone 2 has the sweetest freaking pistol in gaming history?!?

hesido5663d ago

@Lukewind: I don't know if it grew more popular because KZ3 is on its way, but it is very easy to find populated servers in KZ2, however, we couldn't find a Battlefield BC2 server all weekend. (I like BFBC2 more than Killzone2, tho.)

There's too many games to choose from

No Metal geat solid 1,2,3,4?
No Resident evil?
No Silent hill?
No Midnight club 3?
No NfS Underground 2?
No Final Fantasy?
No Burnout 3?
No Dragon quest 8?
No Days gone?
No Ace combat?
No Tekken/Soul calibur?......
just from the top of my head

PS1 era was full of great RPGs, PS2 was racing generation i would pick top 200 and even that would be just a fraction.

FinalFantasyFanatic546d ago

30 is way too low over the entire history of Playstation, I just wouldn't be able to narrow it down that much, I would pick 100 at least.

Storm23546d ago

Yeah...really odd list. I get that it is personal preference and I love most of the games listed, but my list would definitely be different. I agree though, it would be incredibly difficult to come up with just 30.

lockedongamer1546d ago (Edited 546d ago )

EDIT: Except for Days Gone, I don't get the love for it but you do you!

32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III

Shane Kim1112d ago

That's kind of a huge drop though. It's only been two games.

VersusDMC1112d ago

One year after realease HZD sold 7.6 million.

So not a drop off.

Unless you're saying a HFW should have sold as much now as HZD sold in 5 years?

It's been 3 games, this includes Call of the Mountain. Also no, its a great improvement over HZD.

lol you are comparing:

HZD: 28 February 2017 - May 2023 (6 years+)

HFW: 18 February 2022 - May 2023 (1 year+)

We will see if it surpass original number.

Killzone 3 is playable with mouse & keyboard on PC via RPCS3 & KAMI

Still looks secure 2 gens later... one of my favorite ps3 moments. With 3D and move the game is on another level

MadLad1863d ago

PC almost always ends up the best place to play games, even if it takes a while.

What would you rather play decades down the line? A game at a fixed resolution and frame, considering you have a working disc, and the hardware?
Or run it on an emulator that can update the experience all around, and let you use whatever control input you prefer?

If you insist on the former, it's really only for the sake of nostalgia.

Applejack1863d ago

I disagree. The main draw for consoles has always be the simplicity of just putting the disc in / downloading it and playing without worrying about anything else. The average person just wouldn’t want to deal with emulation even though it’s very important for preservation.

Terry_B1863d ago

Even emulators are super simple to use.

jukins1863d ago

Youre getting flak because people on here thibk of themselves as pc wizards. But honestly most poeple try and go get emulators and romz they end up with malware.. yes theyre "easy" if you know the basics but alot of people dont. That said the fact that its taken nearly 20 years to get a sustantially better experience for ps3 games than on its native system shows the complexity of getting bc to work. Sony, if they have any intention, should just invest in a vastly better psnow experience.

1863d ago
Vegamyster1863d ago

jukins

Most people who emulate don't get malware, you'd have to be going to some weird sites for that to happen, heck years ago people were getting sketchier ad's resulting in malware warning on this site if you didn't have a ad-blocker lol.

SinkingSage1862d ago

Can't get malware if you legally dump your own games, which you should.

Rachel_Alucard1862d ago (Edited 1862d ago )

That's fine if that's the main draw, but it doesn't make it a better experience, just a preference. Having the freedom to do the things you can do on PC is what the appeal of PC is. Buying a game on PC means you never have to worry about the console makers just deciding the next hardware shouldn't support the generation anymore, which means everything you bought is stuck on that hardware instead of moving up with everything else. Nintendo uses this tactic to keep reselling the same games over and over at inflated prices. Sony cut all previous gens off the PS4 and sold it back to people in a poor attempt with PSnow. While the PS5 supports PS4 games, that may not be the case in the next gen after this. No to mention shutting off all the previous stores and updates completely. Even MS stopped making new BC titles at some point, so now there's a big list with 17 pages of titles that are not playable on Xbone and are just trapped on older gen. That's not a problem on PC, the reverse happens where you only have to worry if your hardware can play the newest releases at ultra with no issue.

MadLad1862d ago

Did you purposely miss the entire point of my post?

Inverno1863d ago

Well that's the beauty of still owning a retro console tho. Those who usually complain about emulation are just being blindly loyal to a company. Emulation is great for many reason, but if I still owned the console then I disagree nothing beats plugging it back in and going down a nostalgia trip
