Twisted Metal 'might work on Kinect' - Jaffe

David Jaffe has said that Twisted Metal might work on Kinect - in theory, at least.

The Eat Sleep Play developer was responding to an obviously tongue-in-cheek question about Twisted Metal coming to Xbox 360 with motion cam support.

"No Twisted for Kinect but I WAS standing in front of it 'air playing' it and it kind of might work," he said.

What I think he's talking about is, Kinect + Twisted Metal game-play could work in theory.

I could assume like, Kinect Joy Ride + Twisted Metal game-play.

That's actually could be one of Kinect's hardcore game, in my opinion.

ComboBreaker5688d ago (Edited 5688d ago )

but in reality, there is no way to accelerate or break. And with Kinect's lag and inaccuracy, a vehicle combat game like Twisted Metal would be very hard to control.

Maybe in the future, with better technology, it would be possible. But right now, not really possible.

raztad5688d ago

Twisted MEtal is a 60fps game. Kinect is 30fps and has no buttons. I dont see how it could work.

lowcarb5688d ago

I could see accelerate and breaking being easily possible. Also as far as the lag it can all be ironed out over time.

hesido5688d ago

@raztad:

The frequency of your input doesn't affect how fast the game can run, but it affects how fast the game can react to your input. The input could be polled at 10hz (10 fps) but the game could run at 60hz. It would just create an input lag.

For augmented reality, the frequencies would better match, tho.

raztad5688d ago (Edited 5688d ago )

@hesido

"It would just create an input lag"

The primary reason for a game to run at 60fps is to reduce input lag, increasing responsiveness and overall smoothness.

Come on, Kinect is said to lag in slow on rails games. I cant even imagine how it would fare in TM. Besides TM is a shooter.

8-bit5688d ago (Edited 5688d ago )

Joy ride has no input for gaging your speed, you are either giving gas or not. There is no way to gradually give the amount of speed you desire. Also I hear it isn't possible to go in reverse in Joy Ride. Future tech lol

I don't see Kinect working with many game types at all let alone something like Twisted metal with out it having gimped controls like Joy Ride.

lowcarb5688d ago

Can't think of it but I just saw a game demonstration where they either reversed or braked by pulling in there hands.

@raztad:

I agree, 60fps would reduce the input lag. What I meant was, 30hz of input would be more laggy than 60hz input, but, the input doesn't need to be polled at the same frequency for the game to work at those speeds. Say you keep your game at 60fps, 10hz of input would have more input lag than 30hz input, and 30hz input would have more input lag than 60hz, the most ideal of course having a 60hz input for a 60fps game.

Cloudberry5688d ago

.
And my assumption was right; he's talking about Kinect's Joy Ride.

I watched Kinect Joy Ride videos awhile back, and in my opinion, it looks good & amusing.

Who knows?

Eat Sleep Play could make their Kinect version of Twisted Metal + Joy Ride.

totallysane5688d ago

I'm not surprised, lol. I was thinking Jaffe better watch what he says because there is a lot of retardation in the world, lol.

Wow cyberpunk is a great pick up. If you haven’t played it you should definitely give it a try

Christopher330d ago

Banishers was dragged down by the need to go back to old areas multiple times.

GhostScholar331d ago

Also if you bought it at launch and couldn’t deal with all the bugs it’s a totally different game now

stupidusername331d ago

Played it on release and thought it was a mess. But I'm currently playing it again now on both PS5 and Switch 2 with cross save progression, and it's really different to how I remember it. Really enjoying it now, and it's really polished and immersive.

darthv72331d ago

Despite owning the 2077 One X console and the steelbook edition of the game... i still have never played it. I may actually give 2077 a try (via the portal) as there has been so much talk about it again, thanks to SW2 and now this comparison vid from DF. https://youtu.be/SvGQik3m6a...

dveio331d ago (Edited 331d ago )

I think it's an okay decision or happening.

iirc, wasn't there even a new and probably last update coming soon announced recently?

I've never played 2077, neither. (I am still a bit mad about their ... well, anyway.)

But I think it can't get better to play that game, or any game for that matter, in a 100% complete, fully updated build.

DivineHand125331d ago

Cyberpunk and Risk of rain 2 are the best of the bunch. Not a bad month if you are one of the few that haven't played those games.

yeastori331d ago

Cyberpunk is probably one of the best games I've ever played, even when it came out with all the bugs and glitches and broken gameplay on consoles, I still loved it at its core because the world was exactly what I wanted in a dystopian vision of the real future and the story was actually well done and compelling. With the fixes and then Phantom Liberty I just knew that this game could've been GOTY winner if it hadn't been released too early and released on PS5. XBX and two years later.

shinXseijuro331d ago

Might give cyberpunk a chance now that the game redeemed itself . Is it only the basic game or with the newer content ?

xHeavYx331d ago

According to the article, it's just the base game, but the DLC will be 30% off

TM3 is my favorite but I'll take what they bring out gladly. Fun times back in the day and great soundtracks

Cacabunga613d ago

Last one on ps4 wasn’t good at all.
Hoping for some good reboot or remake of the first 3

Dagexon613d ago

You mean the one on ps3?

Cacabunga612d ago

Yes i do, thanks! I realized too late couldn’t edit

Lego 2K Drive features an exciting mode called Brick Brawl, inspired by Twisted Metal. Players can create, share, and upload various cars, including ones like Sweet Tooth. The game boasts thousands of custom cars, ranging from the Batmobile to the Sweet Tooth ice cream truck.

InUrFoxHole613d ago

Never understood the like for the series. Not my bag but I know a lot of gamers are clamoring for a new game and liked the TV. Series

TiredGamer613d ago (Edited 613d ago )

TM1 and 2 are time period classics. They were a bit rough, ugly, and grungy, but they felt right during the time period they were released and they scratched that early console “death match” itch before FPS games would completely swallow that market.

Many great memories with friends playing couch co-op and 1v1. Short, and quick-and-dirty gameplay that we returned to over and over. I’d buy a remake or proper remastering of the first two games day one.

InUrFoxHole613d ago

Lol, nice! I remember having the tiger handheld or watch..

FinalFantasyFanatic612d ago

I played those so much as I kid, I bought the Twisted Metal games that were on PSN as Playstation Classics, wow, they feel clunky by today's standards, they could really use the remake/remaster treatment.

UltimateOwnage613d ago

Twisted Metal: Black is when the series really hit for me. I still love that game so much. It was kind of downhill for the series after that IMO. I'd love to see the series go back to its roots, but I don't hold out a lot of hope for David Jaffe coming back from where he is these days to oversee development of a competent sequel.

Snookies12613d ago

Black was the pinnacle in my opinion. I adored TM1 and TM2, for sure. But Black brought it to a whole new level of awesome.
