The Top Five Silent Video Game Protagonists

It has just been announced that the hero of Call of Duty: Black Ops will be quite the chatterbox ... Alex Mason, the protagonist, will be an experimentation for Treyarch in emotional connectivity and narrative delivery.

And he is yet another silent protagonist given voice. Though Mason hasn't appeared in Call of Duty games before, most of the characters are interchangeable, and it is expected that we become more privy to the events that are happening than actually partake in them. The quiet type is quickly becoming a thing of the past, and we are finding it harder and harder to find blank slates on which to color ourselves. Click the link to see a shortlist of silent heroes that have taken us on some great journeys.

I agree....Where is the Wanderer on this list?

Edward-Kraken5684d ago

Isnt it Wander not Wanderer? (not sure)

DannyDammit5684d ago

He talked a bit at the beginning

Trizard5684d ago

Link higher than Gordon Freeman. No hero bests Gordon Freedom. Besides Link moans and grunts when he swings his sword around so hes not exactly silent. Gordon Freeman is also much more complex than Link will ever be.

TheBand1t5684d ago

How can Gordon be more complex when we barely know anything about the man?

Trizard5684d ago

You good sir, have obviously not played Half Life 1 or 2. If you had, you would understand the epicness of Gordon Freeman.
And I am not the only one:

That's nice, but it doesn't answer my question on how he's more complex.

He's essentially just supposed to be 'you'. He's not even remotely interesting at all, it's only the side characters that are. Especially Barney.

FYI: I've played both Half-Life 1, Opposing Force, Blue Shift, and Half-Life 2 in addition to Episode 1 and Episode 2, and await Episode 3 to come out.

Trizard5684d ago

You have to admit that the story line is much more complex. Also, Gordon definitely has something going with Alex. He also has friends like Barney and Eli Vance. Then theres the mystery surrouding GMan which is even further amplifies Gordon Freeman's character. I don't know very many recurring characters from the Zelda series besides Link and Ganondorf.

I was kinda annoyed when they announced Isaac was gonna talk. Hope he doesnt speak much.

When logic meets EA it generates anti-matter ..... so try not to apply it in any meaningful way. Entropy is what matters in there !!

badz14972d ago

cue the apologist saying that these are mostly just contractors hired for this specific project bla bla bla

The community warned them this would happen but nope they knew better they continued with the live service push the made the art style cartoonish and this is the result

It's always so bizarre when studios announce something super early in development under the suggestion of forming the game to player feedback, and then they push against all feedback heading straight for the cliff while everyone is warning them along the way

US Lawmakers Urge Review Of EA Sale

The Congressional Labor Caucus sent a letter to the FTC warning the debt-financed, largely PIF-owned deal could be bad news for workers

lol ya think? they're sending all that work to the cheaper labor market as soon as possible. and FYI, that labor market has exploded in the last 5-10 years. They have enough people to replace every single job. But honestly, EA is over filled with useless upper management as it is. You could probably trim 25% of their staff with no real loss in production. They aren't gamers, they're business execs. Just look at how many AI related jobs they're already starting to post. Its also hilarious that PIF owns Battle field 6

Wait,

The same congress that attacked Lina Khan when she fought the Microsoft Activision purchase.
The same congress that allowed Disney to buy 90% of Fox
The same congress that allowed Liv Golf to buy the PGA
The same congress that sits back while Paramount tries a hostile takeover despite losing the bid for Warner Bros.

NOW, the suddenly cares about doing what's "right" for works? Yeah, right.

No. There were elections and some of the scum were replaced.

TheColbertinator118d ago

Different elections. Different scum. Same results.

i know its a long shot, but i hope this gets shot down.

EA now owned by The Saudis and Ubisoft to inevitably be owned by China. In hindsight, once EA and Ubisoft started having their financial woes, they should have pulled a Koei Tecmo/Bandai Namco by merging their operations into one.
