this gen alone i have bought more shooters than any other gen combined.

But last Gen it was Jrpg but i didn't b!tch, if u don't like shooters then don't buy them.

FPS is without doubt my favourite genre, so for me, it's a good time to be a gamer. I'm more than happy to see a lot of good quality shooters coming and it's clear I'm not alone, it's easily the biggest selling genre.

It's all supply and demand. Gamers are buying them, so developers will make them.

Still, theirs plenty of variety to be found. From Half-Life 2 to COD to Portal, I love them all.

Largely, I think I'm just not a big fan of characters, the first person view helps me get into a game, plus, I love multiplayer, and this genre is hard to beat in that respect.

Shooters are alot of fun speacialy when envolves charismatic characters like doom marine ,duke nukem, sgt. price, freeman (not sure abt this 1 lol) and so on

But this saturation will eventually disapear now that halo and CoD are finaly starting to get a low profile

I miss the days when platformers ruled the market. Much better thann FPS's, thats for sure.

The question you must ask is, how many shooters can we play every year. But my question is where is the creativity, where are the games that make me appreciate the industry, it's creativity and it's diversity. Even if they have to bring back a old franchise, I'll appreciate it if it plays different from the everyday modern games.

Shooters sell. And sell well. As long as shooters such as Halo and Call of Duty and Gears of War are selling millions of copies on launch we will continue to see publishers try to carve a slice of that market for themselves.

Do we have too many? Ehhh I'm not sure. Though I do know I would like for developers to start thinking for themselves in terms of the the genre's growth. When a shooter gains huge success and does what it does well, developers will simply say "We need our own Call of Duty/Halo/Half-Life/Gears of War" and they will try to re-create that success without trying to change too much or add new ideas. When this happens nothing is achieved and the genre doens't evolve despite it doing well.

To me personally, that's frustrating.

The economy is failing and the game industry isn't exempt from that. You've seen it easily by game developers that very well bring out original gameplay but, sometimes barely make enough such as PS3 games (no offense)that come out with great games like Little Big Planet which is a great game but, simply because, of the economic meltdown, people just want a few games that they and their friends could play together for a lasting time usually it would be 1-3 months average and if it's really worth playing then it's more than a year or so like Halo and Call of Duty players.

If we had money to spend on $60 effing dollar games, we would buy a lot of games and even the crappy ones like we used to in the good PS2-Xbox-Gamecube days and before that.

Now we have games like Spongebob that cost $60. MAKE SENSE? no one is gonna buy that bullshit.

I do not mind the FPS as long as there are enough of other types of genres.

im really sick of shooting crap honestly. like jalen says, aslong as theres enough variety which is true for atleast PS, but even ps has alot of shooters now. multiplats are all shooters too. i mean action games are still around and games like enslaved aare a good break but they just throw guns into every genre now.

(adventure, racing, rpg's -mass effect, borderlands, bioshock,- soon madden will have guns.

bioshock is still awesome as is fallout, but dangit, give me more variety!

The largest problem is the game play seeping into other genres such as infamous an action platformer... that almost all the use of his powers is done via fps style. RPGS that are now just simply becoming fps. Fallout. Mass effect. It's all just more fps disguised as something else and then it gets huge reviews and called innovative and people scream that Japan needs to emulate this... I seriously hope this shooting trend ends soon.

Maybe they can give CoD a 2 year release window, for 2 years keep doing season and adding new stuff, it's cheaper, and brings in more money from DLC.

First year buyers pay $70 like normal, after that year, anyone not willing to buy it can get it on GP, and if they retain some players they can boost the player base and spend money on DLC.

Hoping that all big single player games like the next Wolfenstien game are not available for free on Gamepass day 1. Single player big budget games needs the sales to cover the expensive cost of developing these games .

They realized how much money is lost on games not being bought. Call of duty prints money and you gave it away on a sub. Especially for something that was going to sell anyway. If you ask me, Forza Horizon, Gears, Halo, and other flagship games shouldn’t be on there. It should be for games that may struggle with sales or don’t have that impulse buy attraction. Microsoft would make more money and gamespass wouldn’t have to go up to offset losses.
I am personally over call of duty and have been for years. Having a lower price and excluding it is a great deal for me. Now if they’d give a year bundle with a discounted cost….

Edit** after seeing some of the comments, they basically realized what Sony already did. Day one games HURT financially when it’s a big game that sells. That’s why PlayStation plus does games coming to the service AFTER they had their sales run. Like Spider-man 2 and god of War 2 for example. It’s a nice thing, having day one games, but ultimately paying that high monthly sub to KEEP playing was you paying for games and continuing to pay past the worth of the game. Buying simply saves you in the long run. It’s why I bought Hollow Knight 2 for example rather than play it on games pass. Not enough interesting games on there and I don’t have to pay to keep playing. My gamespass has been cancelled since the price increase and I felt no pain because I buy my games. Otherwise I’d have to keep paying JUST to be able to play something.

I would like a tier without Ubisoft + and EA Play. I play games from those two publishers once in a blue moon.

Now it’s at least worth considering but still too pricey to stay subscribed rather than subscribe one month at a time when a big game releases.

People are dumb. It was 19.99 July 2024. It went to 29.99 Oct 2025. Now it’s 22.99 and somehow that’s a win?! That’s $275.88 a year and a year of PS Plus Premium is $160.

This is great news for everyone that never wanted CoD in Game Pass. We all know that anyone who wants it will buy it full price. For those that never cared for it, get a discount on the price. I think this will help Xbox keep their subscribers. Plus, most of the more recent CoD games are still having lobbies to play in.

That's cool, price drop is price drop, but wasn't ultimate PC like 10 bucks a month originally? Personally, I am not into having so many subs anymore. I had all and played practically nothing in them, the original sub of random games made "Free" Monthly was far better to me, because bare minimum I ALWAYS had access. Heck, I still have games from 360 they gave me and I don't have a sub at all anymore.

Now I left gamepass and have nothing, I think I will just stick to fewer subscriptions and just buy games as I desire.

People wanted a price drop but there was always gonna be some sort of tradeoff for it. They're not gonna keep CoD on Game Pass forever KNOWING people are gonna buy it anyway simply because it's CoD. People continue to buy it every year without questioning its quality and MS knows this.

But hey GP is cheaper... until the next price increase.
