Gamestop starts new Point based Rewards program

im confused.. how has this been going on forever but last week when i was there they were like ohhhhh next week we start this new rewards program balogna...

I said for awhile, are GameStop got it a month after everyone else has, that was about 2 or 3 months ago.

They tested the service out in select cities, Houston, St. Louis, and 1 more back in July to see if everything would roll over, and dince it has they began adding more and more cities to that list.

I've been getting points since July and now I'm almost at 30,000.

Only reason I went threw GameStop is because it is the only store that sells alot of games and items for games.

Plus its cheaper, alot of stores want 80 bucks for a game that came out with the PS3 and 360 first came out.

sucks compared to best buy, best buy will give u 10$ for every 150 u spend, but u gotta wait a month and a half to get it...and that usually doesn't even amount to tax off. amazon is better than best buy if u don't have to pay tax and they sometimes have credit, and kmart is better than all cuz they give u 20$ coupons or more on virtually every title on release week where amazon will only give u 10 on some of them if u are lucky and they have that offer.

I think it depends on the region. I live in Dallas and we've been having this for a long time. (Gamestop HQ like an 1hr away). We also get a lot of deals before hand as well seeing it as we're the 'backyard' of Gamestop.

My launch 60 gb PS3 is from PR, my cousin who lives there bought it for me back in '06 and shipped it to me in NY.:)

Anyways, my gamestop started this a month ago, too bad I don't buy from GS anymore(there's a mom and pop store across the street from it that sell games for way cheaper than GS, I got FF13 for $20 new last saturday while GS has it for $60 new.)

For sure man ! Like OtherWhiteMeat said they open game play them reshrink wrap them and sell them as new ! Happened to me several times ! Not to mention pushing preorders down your thorat , amazon has no tax $99 cent release day delivery and most games comes with $10-20 bonus towards future game ! What does GS give you ? NOTHING ...

They remove that about 1 or 2 years ago, keep in mind the manger gets free copy of games before it comes out and with the new rule, they have to count it used.

Now as for every store doing what the company rules are is up to them. But at some point they will lose their job for not doing it.

everything. worst prices, cannibalizing the industry (and also the people who work there), they don't even test their used games...they make u do it/aka use you/aka free labor+time+drive and call it a "guarantee". also even if you reserve if it is a popular game they will sell it to other people anyway on launch day--this is a corporate decision and the managers are told to do this. they don't tell you if you have pre-orders you forgot to pick up and just keep earning interest on your money--not to mention all the damn hassling about pre-ordering. also vast majority of people who i've encountered working there seem to be a-holes--typical 360 egomaniacs. look up a video series call zero originality on google for an insider's expose on it

and yes like the dude said, ripping you off when buying or "selling"

Lol no thats only your US Gamestops. Nothing like that in the one I work at in Ireland. If our customers went into surrounding competitor stores asking what is the 3DS they would reply 3DS DUUUUHHHHHHH???? If you asked them is there a new Ratchet and Clank out soon they would tell you "There is a new one out this year" and is LBP out on Nov 19th "Yes". If people want good information and service they come to us.

dude i work at gamestop and none of the stuff you listed goes on in my store(not saying that it doesn't happen). With used games if it doesn't work bring it back and exchange for something else. Also if someone lets me know if they can't pick up their pre-order that week i place it in the employee holding for the following week they get paid. Also, bc of me a lot of the guys in my store now own a ps3, 360, or both. like i said that's my store, i don't know about the others.

sorry for my typing i'm in a rush and the pre-ordering thing(they make us ask for them if we won't to or not)

I hate how they try to sell me pre-orders, edge cards, disc scratching warranties and their gameinformer magazine. I also hate it when I ask for a game and they nonchalantly bill me the used version of said game by default. Seriously, unless stated otherwise when I ask for a game I'm looking for a new and unopened version... fuck your five dollar discount.

The only reason I keep buying my games at gamestop is because it's a 10 minute drive.

After taking a look at the site, I just think it's lame they reward people more points per dollar for buying Used Games...the used game business is probably where Gamestop makes most of it's revenue per year anyways, so it's nearly obvious why Gamestop set the Reward Program up this way, but I think people should get rewarded more points per dollar for buying games new

Looks like I'll just be sticking with Amazon though...the last game I bought from Gamestop was AC2 last November and the only time I buy from Gamestop is if they have a REALLY good Exclusive Pre-order bonus...plus on Amazon I get Free 2 Day shipping since I'm a Amazon Prime Member and I don't have to pay any tax.

You show them the card and they add 10 points for every dollar spent. The points are added between 24-48 hours.

we have had this here for over 2 months now

basically what happens is if you buy a new game you get a dolalr back...if you buy used you get 2 dollars back

so for instance they offer a set of turtle beach x11s...you'd have to buy around 60 games

trade ins also count toward your point total but I don't trade much so I didn't do the math

really it is an okay program but you won't ever come out ahead for it...it is a marketing scheme to make you buy more
