Microsoft Dashboard Beta Rendered Me Speechless

SG: Yesterday the new dashboard beta launched for those of us who were lucky enough to get in on it. And by those of us, I mean pretty much anyone who signed up. Because really, they let ME in… So they couldn’t have been that picky.

You have to sign up to get into the preview.

dragunrising5763d ago (Edited 5763d ago )

When signing up for the beta it was very explicit in stating that voice/communication services would be limited to only beta members. Perhaps a lot of people simply didn't read. :-p

Speaking of the beta, has anyone noticed that the voice chat (between other beta members) was substantially improved? For me, the quality was better than my phone.

Marcus Fenix5763d ago

they said a while ago that they r improving the voice chatting quality, im happy that this improvement doesn't require me 2 get a newer headset or somethin.

FragMnTagM5762d ago

Voice chat is greatly improved. It seems they put a filter in place to filter out anything that is not voice. My one friend has a terrible mic or something it was always scratchy, it echoed and he had to continually pull the mic out and put it back in to fix it. He didn't get the update but I did and when in a match I couldn't hear any of that crap, but my other friends said they could still hear it.

The new ESPN section is pretty cool. Not a huge sports fan, but it is awesome for those that like sports. The content on there is pretty significant even though it is just a preview. Netflix search is really cool and the redesigned Zune part is cool and I may even sign back up for my Zune Pass.

Also, if any of your friends are in the beta too, you can party chat and send messages to them.

Max Power5762d ago (Edited 5762d ago )

I thought you couldn't communicate to people who aren't in the beta?

outlawlife5762d ago

you can in game chat but not via party chat

gamingdroid5762d ago

The voice quality is hugely improved. It was crystal clear and frankly better than my cell phone!

Blacktric5763d ago (Edited 5763d ago )

It doesn't look like something special. Speed is the same as the old one while connected to Live and most of the users out there are complaining how new look seems too ordinary. Oh and also, you can't use your avatar awards. Yeah I'm serious. They only show up as a text and as an empty box with question mark inside it on the Avatar Editing section which they never mentioned while accepting people into the preview program.

MiloGarret5763d ago

Oh nooooooooes! How could they do that!!!!11!!!111one!!1

Without my avatar awards... my life is meaningless.

Blacktric5763d ago (Edited 5763d ago )

That's not the problem. The problem is they never mentioned it anywhere before or after we signed up to get the preview. Just like they never mentioned that ingame chat might not work with specific games.

FragMnTagM5762d ago

As I read that the avatar awards as well as stuff you may have purchased wouldn't be available to until the real update.

Now it wasn't in bold letters or anything, but it was there. Just because you didn't read, doesn't mean it wasn't there.

Blacktric5762d ago

It wasn't there until the update's released. I constantly checked the Microsoft's Connect site until the update released so yeah, I read the whole thing and those warnings weren't there until yesterday. I'm not saying that I wouldn't applied to download the preview program just beacuse I won't be able to use some useless avatar clothing and ingame chat in some games but they should've added that information there before we signed up.

likedamaster5762d ago

Frag is right, it was mentioned. I think the preview is a bit bright, imo. They could have toned down the colors a bit. It feels a tad faster, especially after the 2nd update. Or it could be just me.

I never had a problem with the speed of the NXE, but to say the new beta is the same when connected to live, I would say you have Internet connection problems. The dash on live or not, is significantly faster. Not only that, all my game load to first screen noticeably faster. I have a 4G 360S.

Re: Avatar, not a big deal. Most likely with the release you will be able to use them. When you edit avatar a conversion takes place and tells you avatar has changed. If this is a big deal I woudl recommend you not join any more beta/previews. You should assume some things, like awards, may not work until release if ever. That's the nature of beta/previews.

pacosanchez885763d ago

it was a play on words silly. people in the beta cant talk about it/ voicechat while playing games.

SexyPrawns5763d ago

Haha.

You guys didn't read it.

By "it rendered him speechless", he means he's not allowed to talk about it.

pacosanchez885763d ago

and i guess you didnt read the whole thing either lol, ther writer was female, not a guy

The Hillman5763d ago

Hi guys, I'm in the beta too for Square-Go.com and whilst you are not meant to really talk about it outside of the beta forums you can't actually private or party chat with anyone not in the beta. Likewise you can't send voice messages to anyone not in the beta.

As far as I'm aware in game chat works fine with most titles though.

Cheers,

T

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde80d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

Soy81d ago

And then MK1 killed it again.

DivineHand12580d ago (Edited 80d ago )

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
