Kotick: EA has “lost its way,”

Activision boss Bobby Kotick has laid into EA a little more, saying the publisher has “lost its way.”

“It’s like, if you have no other option, you might consider them,” he told Edge.

“They have some… the team that makes Madden is a really great team, it’s been able to manage, capture and keep some good people.

“But we have no shortage of opportunity to recruit out of EA – that’s their biggest challenge: its stock options have no value. It’s lost its way.

”Kotick adds EA will “struggle” to find top-notch developers until “it has success, and hits, and gets that enthusiasm back for the company.”

I am proud to say that I have at least 80 PS3 games and not one of them are made by Activision. I plan on keeping it this way.

EA get a B+ from me since the generation began. It would be an A, if only they gave up the habit of nastily priced milking DLC for many yearly updated titles. However despite retaining those year on year updates, they have miraculously transformed the quality of them, notably FIFA and NHL. These are quality products.

Since this console gen began we have seen published: Rock band, Crysis, Spore, Mass effect 2, Dead space, The Sims 3, Mirror's Edge, Dragon age, Dante's inferno, Burnout paradise, Command and Conquer 3/RA3 and the Battlefield series. With FIFA and NHL, i consider these here all worthy releases. Its also worthwhile noting that many of them are brand new IPs. The EA sports brand rarely suffers an out and out BAD game these days, you could do worse than their golf, american football and basketball games.

EA have carefully invested in new IPs and produced some quality titles, while investing the money needed in proven series to raise their quality to the highest overall level in the companies history.

They arent saints just yet. But everything is relative. EA might not agree, but the activision merger improved their image no end. No longer being the biggest money grabbing publisher out there...

SonyPS3605590d ago

Why does the biggest publisher have such a dick running things.

ico925590d ago

Yeah Kotic is right in some way, Unlike greedy, power hungry gaming companies Like Activision and...err Activision, EA have actually started to care about the Consumer by being one of the most supportive devs this gen, free DLC for Burnout,Mass Effect, supporting games that are like 2 years old like Rock Band, Giving new IP's a chance like Mirrors Edge, Dead Space, Brutal Legend, so yeah they have lost there way.

dumahim5590d ago

I agree. I've been a huge EA hater for years, but the last couple of years they're really turned things around. Sure they still make a mistake now and then, but everyone does.

Looks like Kotick should be looking in the mirror when making that claim.

zoks3105590d ago

Bubble up my friend, EA did an amazing job with Burnout and BFBC2 this gen, they supported those 2 games months after they were released. We had to pay for some of those updates, but they were worth it and they kept us busy during this slow summer.

I give EA a lot of credit they really turned the corner as of late and I can't wait to see what they have done with MOH, I also can't wait to get my hands on the Vietnam patch for BFBC2 also.

Imperator5590d ago

I'd say EA has pretty much redeemed themselves this gen. I'm really looking forward to Dragon Age 2 and Dead Space 2 early next year.

tinybigman5590d ago

hey bobby burn in hell you bastard.

ABizzel15590d ago

Once again I never thought I would be defending EA.

Activision needs to staple his mouth shut, so he can stop spreading stupidity.

EA has made a 360 (no pun intended) there have went from being what Activision has become to being a multi-talented developer/publisher.

If anything Activision needs to learn from EA. EA has it's established franchises, but they try to innovate their current titles, while creating new franchises. EA seems to be following in Sony's footstep as far as producing games.

Activision has nothing to fall back on, but Call of Duty and Guitar Hero. And Guitar Hero has been knocked down by Rock Band.

Call of Duty is all they have left. All their attempts at making new games have failed (Blur being one of the few that were actually good).

The only thing saving Activision is Blizzard.

Saudi Arabia Will Own 93 Percent Of Battlefield 6 Publisher EA

When the dust settles on the $55 billion leveraged buyout of Electronic Arts, Saudi Arabia will be its only true owner, despite a “consortium” of investors being involved in the deal. Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund will control 93 percent of the company, according to filings with Brazil’s antitrust regulator.

blacktiger44d ago

Technically speaking, Saudi Arabia and TENCENT can buy the entire USA. ANf Democrat and Republican will not do crap!

Inverno44d ago

Letting foreign entities own half of American businesses is liberal and very progressive. So is bringing in all that talent from outside the States to replace the talentless and lazy American workers. And here I thought the Trump administration wanted to border is up but nope. We're supposed to worry bout them "radical Muslims" minding their own here and ignore China/Saudi/Israel taking over.

blacktiger44d ago

Another thing I hate hearing is "liberal and very progressive"
It's 2025 and that stuff is outdated. Everything and everyway is literally the same thing wheter it's progressive, conservativ. Because they all wants the same thing have, king unlimited oney buy everything including your house.

Now they making mainstream media news that it's AI Bubble justify to highjack the price of RAM.
Another excuse for inflation!

Tacoboto44d ago

"here I thought the Trump administration wanted to border is up but nope"

Lol, you actually bought what he was selling? Let's see this week alone...

Yesterday he pardoned an international drug lord, while allowing the murder of random fishermen on boats. Remember drain the swamp? He pardoned a Democratic Congressman jailed for bribery just today, nevermind that fraudulent drag queen republican that was kicked out of Congress and imprisoned for their fraud. It's so petty they're picking fights on social media with pop stars while using their music, and even using Franklin the damn Turtle to cartoonify their murders.

thorstein43d ago

You believed him!?!!

I've got some Trump $5000 bills for you, only half off.

Microsoft needs to listen or risk irreparable harm to Call of Duty

Windows Central: "The money may keep rolling in, but Microsoft is the custodian of one of the biggest selling video game series in history. If something doesn't change, I fear we'll reach a breaking point and irreparable damage will have been done."

franwex51d ago

In my view, they should probably merge MP with Warzone and essentially make it free to play like Halo Infinite. The campaign/zombies mode can be $30 yearly DLC. I know this would be insanity as most COD players essentially pay the full price of the game simply for the MP. However-with a shrinking player base they may have to consider it. Making it free would bring in a ton of players.

Profchaos51d ago

To late MW3 should have been a lesson but here we are two years later with a steaming pile a shite called blops7

Halo killer once arrived and technically call of duty killer also arrived, its name is Fortnite

dveio51d ago

Call of Duty was riding the revenue horse and charts for ~20 years. Whether undeserved or deserved.

But I endorse everyone to remind you that Microsoft could have decided differently when they took it over.

The money was certainly there, and they could have taken their time revamping the franchise:

Current-gen tech, manageable microtransactions, not imitating Fortnite and returning to core values of the franchise's origin.

They didn't.

Let's see next year. Hopefully without the then 13 years old PS4 and One hardware.

you need to stop saying "let see next year"
