Why Arkham Asylum Cannot be Dethroned

Every genre has its king to which every other game compares to; shooters try to dethrone Halo, sports games usually try to overcome Madden, and platformers contend with Super Mario. This is true for subgenres such as sandbox games and RPG/Shooter hybrids, and in 2009 the comic book game genre got its king: Batman Arkham Asylum.

I still think Ultimate Spiderman is the best "comic book" game.

IcarusOne5726d ago

This was a poorly written article. Started to lose me when he admitted to being in high school when Dark Knight came out.

OT: I'm hoping Arkham City will dethrone Arkham Asylum.

Seijoru5726d ago

Infamous 2 will dethrone it.

deadreckoning6665726d ago (Edited 5726d ago )

Last time I checked Infamous isn't based off a comic book.

@Estranged- How so? Infamous is an open world free roaming action game..Arkham Asylum isn't

SoapShoes5726d ago

No but it's still in the same genre...

raztad5726d ago (Edited 5726d ago )

I kinda agree with Dead.

@Estranged

Infamous is about superheros but actually more akin to a third person shooter in an open world setting. Batman:AA is more a stealth/linear game, that is what I get from playing the demo. Havent played B:AA yet for many reasons.

Brewski0075726d ago

If anything infamous is a sanbox game, not a comic book game. Infamous is great though also but it has different competition than arkham asylum. Both sequels i'll definately buy! :)

N4BmpS5726d ago

I actually have problems with placing inFAMOUS I think it carved it's own little place, if it dethroned anything wouldn't it be city of heroes (I think that was the name)

Although I love infamous and cant wait for infamous 2, its not based on comic book, so stfu with your fanboy comments, anywho, cant wait for Arkam Asylum.

il-mouzer5726d ago (Edited 5726d ago )

Infamous is a sandbox action game.

Arkham Asylum was miles better than Infamous btw.

Quagmire5726d ago (Edited 5726d ago )

If only Rocksteady were given the rights to make a Spawn game too...

DarthMoose5726d ago

One can only dream, Id also love a 3rd person squad based x-men game, with lots of epic levels from past and present storylines, I loved x-men legends but it wasnt the type of x-men game I wanted and sadly will probably never see, also a deadpool game would own as well.

Quagmire5726d ago

Fuck yeah, deadpool would be kickass, however it would need a developer who is skilled with balls-to-the-walls action, like Platinum Games.

Also, you should try playing X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Thats one helluva fun gaem.

A Cupcake for Gabe5726d ago

Spawn never got his go. Rocksteady could easily bring a truly epic spawn. Or hell, give to Santa Monica.

DarthMoose5726d ago

Never played orgins yet though it did look like blood fun, its pretty cheap now, gonna grab it next time I get some funds, its just that I was so annoyed by the movie, I wanted them to go forward with the x-men films not backwards, I hate when they do that with franchises, Iève read many of the wolverine comics, Iève read his orgin beforhand and its nothing like the movie, they butchered it, him and sabertooth are not brothers as well, thats just so wrong, I could rant and rant, anyone got some cheese for my wine, anywho, the game did interest me though because it looked more gory and brutal like wolverine is in the comics presently, and it looked fun.

maniacmayhem5726d ago

I would rather they do Superman justice and give him a great game.

alphakennybody5726d ago (Edited 5726d ago )

A proper superman game isn't easy, simply because of his power. I mean he's almost invincible since day one.

DarthMoose5726d ago (Edited 5726d ago )

Meh, superman it too goodie too shoes, I cant play a game like that. Unless its totally epic, like you can fly into space with no loading screens, and chill until you hear someone calling for help like in superman returns, now id buy that day one.

N4BmpS5726d ago

Really Superman is too powerful to be put in a video game unless the first game involves the Red sun, I never thought of it being possible to make a Superman game but yeah maybe Spawn can be put in a good game, with the right dev

maniacmayhem5726d ago

I dont know...

Think about it, put him against equally powerful foes. Superman is strong but he can be beat.

And then think about other video game characters that are super powerful like Dante, Kratos and PAC-MAN. Those guys are over powered fighting demons, Gods and Ghosts bit it works.

Unicron5726d ago

Sure it can. Just make sure it has better boss fights.

alphakennybody5726d ago (Edited 5726d ago )

this and few other hicks( like dynamic lighting/shadow, seriously it would have greatly help with the immersion) why I didn't like AA as much a most people.

SybaRat5726d ago

Other super hero games could work if they took the powers balancing thing as seriously as Rocksteady did. So far, nobody else really has.
