What The Hell Happened To Microsoft Game Studios?

Guerrilla Play Writes: Microsoft Game Studios (MGS) was created in 2002 to publish games specifically for the Xbox brand. This generation we have seen production dwindle down to practically nothing from an Xbox 360 standpoint and for the core gamer. Why has Microsoft abandon their very own console.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: MS needs to invest in new first party studios if they want to really combat Sony in the exclusives department.

iamnsuperman5739d ago (Edited 5739d ago )

Microsoft seams to be making money of buying third part DLC exclusive timed content but this only will work in the short run.....why buy a 360 where they have a few exclusive over a PS3 with lots of exclusives especially when the DLC is timed.....Eventually this business strategy will fail unless Microsoft pulls some great exclusives out

captain-obvious5739d ago

MS is turning casual
all they need is Rare and 3rd party

i mean thats why they closed ensemble studios after all

Immortal3215738d ago

if they want halo, or if they believe the 360 controller is better. Other than that they're most likely to get a ps3.

karl5738d ago

lol MS doesnt give a shit about how many exclusives do they have anymore

its all about sales.. they only need to appear as the better console to uninformed parents and people who dont read gaming news sites.. who have no idea that MS wont be releasing almost no exclusives at all in the future..
the ignorance of the buyers is all they need....
and to keep their gamers fanbase loyal to the XBOX they just need to keep the console numbers a bit bigger than SONY's

if an xbox fanboys can say.. SONY is third .. nothing else matters

nveenio5738d ago

Microsoft only developed first party games in an effort to establish a brand name. They've done that. Now (like with Windows), they're done. The problem is that (like with Windows), people are going to get sick of being handed buggy hardware (or software in Windows' case) and they'll start to move toward PS3 (Mac). Then--and only then--will MS think about putting out some new exclusives (Windows 7).

rockleex5738d ago

They were all put underneath the bottom of an Avatar's shoes! XD

if you dont think MS needs more 1st party games... sorry you are both and idiot and a fool.

What REAL gamer dont want more 1st party games... oh yea.. silly fanboys.

get real real gamers want more and better games

yourfather5739d ago (Edited 5739d ago )

real gamer also play multi-platform games

sikbeta5739d ago

There is difference, Multiplats are available on more than 1 console, so you don't see a reason to buy an specific console with an specific brand, there is when First Party Exclusives shine, those games are the reason of why you chose an specific console, imagine what could happen if Mario was multiplat, no one would buy a wii and Nintendo would not have a franchise to back their consoles...

gypsygib5739d ago

Real gamers like both, the advantage 1st party games have over 3rd party is that they can make better use of the specific consoles advantages and devote 100% of the game budget to making one comprehensive game instead of making budget/gameplay sacrifices to get the game across multiple platforms.

Gam3s4lif35738d ago

real gamers also dont care about exclusives
i feel a lot of hate coming now...

M$ is on the brink of greatness...they know it as do the industry. If M$ would reduce the price of kinect to $99.99, they would have it locked up.

MW2 showed the industry that M$ has the hardcore on lock down, outselling the PS3 version by 3+ million units. All the good Multi-plats sell, look and play better on 360...case closed.

Sony decided to go after the older, hardcore gaming community and has paid dearly for it, giving Nintendo the top spot, followed by M$ with Sony in last. What games defined the mega million selling PS2 brand??? where is Crash bandicoot??? Sly Cooper??? GOW 2 was on PS2 while the PS3 got nothing. I mean GT had 10 games on PS2!!! Sony left the casual gaming community behind and intern let Nintendo walk in and take them all. M$ is now trying to bring the casual gaming community to the far superior 360, ( compared to the Wii ) and don't be surprise if you don't see a huge spike in 360 sales.

As for the so called hardcore gaming community on 360...please...what more could you ask for this year...

Mass Effect
Metro 2033
Splinter Cell
Alan Wake
Crackdown 2
Halo Reach
Fable 3

Where's the hardcore competition for that...C'mon now...the brand X guys should just give up this nonsense. The only reason this discussion is happening is because while there is 3 months to go in 2010, Brand X has nothing to play...Right...lbp and a car sim.

The Multi-plats sell millions more on 360 than PS3...where M$ motive for dumping huge dollars into 1st party devs...look what happen to Rare?...375 million and nothing to show for it and the original 2 owners walked away at the begining of this gen.

2011 is far away and while everyone in the competitors camp is crying M$ is slowly leaking games and the E3 window will be the big announcements. So far it's Forza 4, Gears Of war and Lukas Arts exclusive Kinect game. The first part of 2011 is jam packed with great games like...Ghost Recon, Crysis, Bulletstorm, Bodycount, Brink, KZ 3, Gears...all before E3...lol. Is M$ not going to have a September release or holiday game release at all in 2011...lol.

FENDR5739d ago (Edited 5739d ago )

thats a sad attempt at an argument here is a list of 2010 games exclusively to the ps3

3D Dot Game Heroes
God of War III
Gran Turismo 5

LittleBigPlanet 2
ModNation Racers
White Knight Chronicles
Yakuza 3

cyborg69715739d ago

Your a joke keep telling yourself those lies and maybe they will come true.

karl5738d ago

lol that xbox fanboy was pathetic ... hope u have more fun playing a dancing game on kinect just by looking at your sales m8...

and like 90% of all the games that u mention are on PS3..

Gam3s4lif35738d ago

go to the bottom of the page and you will see a line of green links at the bottom. hit (feedback) and tell them to get some 1st party studio's. Make some exclusive games.

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/

Karl, what are you talking about, he did only write down xbox exclusive accept Mass Effect. I do agree they need a lot more then that to compete. kinect is not going to cut it for there loyal fans. I only heard of
kingdoms
gears of war 3
two games right now. that is a joke and I think you should hit the link above to show how you feel.

i was just trying to conveigh what they have been doing ....

Shadow Flare5739d ago (Edited 5739d ago )

Sony has more first party studios then nintendo and Microsoft combined, with genius studios like naughty dog and polyphony digital

Nintendo has the genius of miyamoto

Microsoft has third party studios, that have been breaking away to multiplatform, and Rare is reduced to working on Kinetc

Akagi5739d ago

Announced for 2010
# Kinect Sports
# Kinectimals
# Kinect Adventures
# Kinect JoyRide
# Dance Central

Yeah, don't want.

5739d ago
Theonik5739d ago

What happened to Microsoft Studios?
Kinect happened that's what.

kasasensei5739d ago

Now, this is just a brand with 20-30 engineers and developers working with first party studios.

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde38d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

Soy39d ago

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
