Stop It: Microtransactions

Let me first say that I am not opposing microtransactions in their entirety. In my opinion, there is a right way and a wrong way to implement them. It is the greedy implementation which impacts gameplay that I cannot agree with.

Microtransactions are a great way for games to bring in a steady stream of profit for extra elements of a game. However, those games that have allowed game design to be altered by microtransactions are undoubtedly the wrong way to go about it. Stop it!

these free-to-play MMOs have to make money somehow.

Letros5719d ago

Lmao I know right, people bitch about pay-to-play, and now about microtransactions.

I like pay-to-play more than mircotransactions, you and others pay the same amount and are on equal footing for PvP or PvE content, only differences between people is the time spent playing or skill level. Also, if you can't afford to pay the subscription fees, get a job or a better paying one. People will pay 15 for map packs or buy several games in a short period of time, but what amounts to 1 game every 4 months is too much...

I've played both, but I just tend to find some games (as the article mentioned) that end up doing microtransactions that affect the balance of the PvP part of the game. If its for soloing or group PvE stuff, I find it fine. But for PvP, to automatically lose in some cases because the other guy(s) spent a ton of items to beat you with is annoying. They may have to make money, but they need to balance things a little.

but my comment is not about it as such. Surely it would make more sense to allow people to pay for gear and stuff than level the playing field with one off transactions. Also to combat people with lots of money just buying all the best stuff off the bat, would it not make more sense to make gear level orientated. That way at level one you cannot get that super fab axe or whatever.

they could also use incentives like virtual money for quests beaten. I'm sure as gamers we have lots of ideas.

And yes free to play MMO's need a way to make money. In this world there is no such thing as free. Except death.

When logic meets EA it generates anti-matter ..... so try not to apply it in any meaningful way. Entropy is what matters in there !!

The community warned them this would happen but nope they knew better they continued with the live service push the made the art style cartoonish and this is the result

It's always so bizarre when studios announce something super early in development under the suggestion of forming the game to player feedback, and then they push against all feedback heading straight for the cliff while everyone is warning them along the way

lol ya think? they're sending all that work to the cheaper labor market as soon as possible. and FYI, that labor market has exploded in the last 5-10 years. They have enough people to replace every single job. But honestly, EA is over filled with useless upper management as it is. You could probably trim 25% of their staff with no real loss in production. They aren't gamers, they're business execs. Just look at how many AI related jobs they're already starting to post. Its also hilarious that PIF owns Battle field 6

Wait,

The same congress that attacked Lina Khan when she fought the Microsoft Activision purchase.
The same congress that allowed Disney to buy 90% of Fox
The same congress that allowed Liv Golf to buy the PGA
The same congress that sits back while Paramount tries a hostile takeover despite losing the bid for Warner Bros.

NOW, the suddenly cares about doing what's "right" for works? Yeah, right.

EA now owned by The Saudis and Ubisoft to inevitably be owned by China. In hindsight, once EA and Ubisoft started having their financial woes, they should have pulled a Koei Tecmo/Bandai Namco by merging their operations into one.
