Microsoft should give up their Xbox brand, and instead focus 100% of their game studios on PC, because PC is the future :)

ChozenWoan5745d ago

PC gaming
Kinect
and win7 mobile

... the future is looking brighter already.

qface645745d ago

microsoft focusing on PC?
you guys seriously don't believe that do you?
they have been pretty much ignoring it only throwing a few bones here and there

Conloles5745d ago (Edited 5744d ago )

That's why they're focussing now

KingKiff5745d ago (Edited 5745d ago )

MS stay away from PC gaming please.

Games for Microsoft is nothing but one big sad ass joke and Live on PC is just as crap.

Stick to kiddies consoles and leave the PC realm to real developers.

No need for any more of their trash, the fact that the basically own the OS market is bad enough.

EDIT @ ALpha-Male22 below.

Damn man you have been working away hard haven't you. I think you would have the most bubbles of any memeber on this site now.

CrazyForGames5744d ago

your a retard if you actually think microsoft is actually supporting PC now LOL

games for windows is a joke

Foliage5744d ago (Edited 5744d ago )

So according to this Fable 3 isn't exclusive.

What "exclusives" does that leave on the 360? Not trolling, just curious...

Halo: Reach
Gears of War 3

I really don't know any other big ones... I'd say Forza, but that Kinect game was pretty brutal.

Microsoft is going to have a hard time expanding their market, when all they have that is noteworthy are 2 games in which their fanbase are already owners of the console.

You can argue that Kinect will expand the market of 360 users, but when the hardcore games are this lacking, and none are on Kinect... that sort of leaves the current target audience of the 360 out in the cold.

Not to mention that Bungie is gone from Halo after Reach, and we all know where Cliffy's current priority is, and it isn't GeOW3.

hmmmm5744d ago

'leave the PC realm to real developers.'

Just because they use games for windows they aren't real developers?..

Who developed Windows? Who developed DirectX?

I know a lot of people like that idea, but they don't and wont give up the Xbox.

The brand has made a very lasting impression on gamers this gen. Consider the fact that this console was able to beat out the successor to the Almighty PS2. Consider the fact that it managed to get a footing in the sales next to Sony and Nintendo. Why give that up now? It was a console that had its golden age, and though it's taken a backseat to Sony now in terms of popularity, it doesn't mean they should give up. The Xbox is still selling well and people still enjoy it daily.

MS's victory this gen comes from gaining shares. However, they are blowing it right now by proving that they had a short term goal. The Xbox brand needs to prove that it has staying power. That is the main problem.

MS needs to prioritize. It's great that they are getting into PC gaming but they are backing up Kinect way too much for the Xbox and expecting things to fly. They need the backbone of exclusives and they need to find that now more than ever.

SOAD5745d ago

Consider the fact that the Microsoft revenue from the 360 has been very small. Hardware launches take up a lot of resources and time for R&D.

Considering that MS has a small first party base, why not just focus on PC? They make most of their cash through software anyway. What's the point of losing so much on hardware. It's been proven that PC gaming is not only alive and well, but it's still a dominant platform in the industry. MS, and Sony for that matter, could easily save themselves the heartache of researching, developing, and distributing consoles, and instead focus on a platform that doesn't require them to design the CPUs, the GPUs, or anything like that.

Boy I wish I had Alpha-Male22 bubble count :\

Dr-ZOOM5745d ago (Edited 5745d ago )

Me too D:

SOAD is competing with him lmfao

Nihilism5745d ago

I agree, M.S is in a position where they could effectively kill the console market altogether. They could bundle an improved DD service withing windows itself, that would be several hundred million users from day 1...even if they only try it out at first it could build a massive revenue stream.

I think it's funny though that it would probably never take off when they have steam to compete with. Maybe they should have thought twice about abandoning PC...

evrfighter5744d ago

I'm sure aoe and flight sim were to fly under the radar until later. Ms caught a whiff of pc gamers wallets as they gobbled up sc2. It's the only reason we are getting this news now.

-Alpha5744d ago

@SOAD

I know MS is losing money this gen. So was Sony. That is why Nintendo has really won this generation from a company perspective. But it'd be completely foolish of MS to stop now. They found a way to hang around the top dogs of the industry and to throw it away because they are losing money is a short-sighted goal.

But of course, that also probably best describes MS's 360.

MS needs to stick with the Xbox and do better next time or ASAP. They offer great competition for Sony too, and if MS is going to stick around then they could at least rub off each other.

SOAD5744d ago

Alphamale, the only reasons some people want MS to continue in the industry is to always keep Sony on their heels.

Microsoft has no prospects in the gaming industry anymore.

Once Epic Games finishes up the Gears trilogy, they're bound to start producing AAA (referring to budget) multiplatform titles.

Bungie has gone multiplatform as well. I don't know to what extent Microsoft still owns Bungie (stock-wise), but Bungie can utilize all the same types of features from Reach in their multiplatform games. Forge-like map editors, theater modes, firefight modes, content sharing and so on can all be used in their multiplatform releases. The only thing Bungie can't do is tread upon the Halo Universe. This means that the Halo as a franchise will effectively be rendered obsolete if Bungie makes another game with similar features and corrects the original flaws of Halo.

What does Microsoft have to appeal to gamers in general? They do the bare minimum of work. They get one awesome franchise to be on their console exclusively and then expect people to get so torn up over not having it that they eventually drop hundreds of dollars on their console to play one game for 3 years. Granted, the games are awesome, but it's clear that Microsoft doesn't want to try anymore.

@Dchalfont

I wouldn't want MS to create their own DD service. They can just utilize STEAM because from what I've seen STEAM is the least annoying DD service, and a lot of gamers use it, and if MS tried to compete with their own DD service, most STEAM gamers wouldn't get the MS service because nobody wants to have multiple DD services on their computer. It's a burden.

Nihilism5744d ago

"I wouldn't want MS to create their own DD service"

Neither would I. I was just saying they could. I think the less M.S has to do with PC gaming the better. But if they really rolled with it they could have a massive influence on gaming as a whole with regards to PC driven gaming etc...for better or for worse.

Steam has the largest gaming library, but Impluse let's you download games and play them without the client as well as a bunch of other even more customer friendly option than steam.

I have a strong feeling that if Natal fails, the xbox brand is done for. MS will probably go back to PC. Especially after seeing StarCraft 2's sales numbers.

dirthurts5745d ago

We all know MS makes big bucks with the 360. It would be crazy to bail on that. But it does make sense to push the PC as well.

KingKiff5745d ago

Platform of choice you mean.

PC is not a console by its very nature.

FACTUAL evidence5745d ago

Guess the PS3 made a Mass Effect on MS,

kissmeimgreek5745d ago

i mean ME has never been a huge seller. Sure its an AMAZING GAME, but i think its only sold around 2 million on 360 (not counting pc). hardly something that could kill the 360.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio11d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing11d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9211d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit11d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing11d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9211d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
