In my opinion, it's not....

Wizziokid5797d ago

That's your opinion though, I do a agree with you though but again it's totally down to opinion. it's not the future and neither are any of the current motion controls.

HolyOrangeCows5797d ago

Ubisoft's games sure aren't the future.

Moentjers5797d ago

maybe Ubisoft-free is the future

ChickeyCantor5797d ago

Opinion based on what?
N4G is full of opinions, but hardly backed up by arguments.

Try again.

bjornbear5797d ago

really? where's the proof?

i think thats just your opinion.

ChickeyCantor5797d ago (Edited 5797d ago )

The one I was replying too, is proof enough.

N4G is full of =/= N4G only consist out of.
Learn to read.

And the disagrees are pure because they think i'm defending Kinect.
Its really sad though.

bobcostus5797d ago (Edited 5797d ago )

Eventually? Maybe. Kinect? I'm not so sure. There HAS to be a reason why both Sony AND Nintendo both passed on the tech being used for Kinect.

I'm not trying to be a fanboy or anything, but why would they both pass on a technology that is "the future"? The IDEA of hands free gaming could very well be the future, I just don't think Kinect is quite there yet. Just my $0.02

OSU_Gamer5797d ago (Edited 5797d ago )

I don't understand why everyone keeps saying Sony passed on the tech...Sony didn't pass on the eye toy (the same tech). The consumers did.

T9X695797d ago (Edited 5797d ago )

I agree, but on the other hand Ubisoft isn't the first dev. to say Kinect is the future. There has to be a reason why some dev. are saying this, and since they are the ones creating the games, it must mean something. Then again, until I see a game that can prove these claims, I don't see it happening.

@Soda Popinsky - True but Sony really needs to start promoting Move. Kinect has massive marketing campaigns and advertisement everywhere, but Move is really lacking in promotion. Not saying Move wont sell, but if they want to attract casual gamers they really need to start promoting it.

DelbertGrady5797d ago

Perhaps MS saw a way to further develop the tech in a way the others didn't? Or they just had other strategy plans. I think Sony went with something that's familiar, Wii-like, yet more advanced, because people know how it works by now. People who've tried the Wii will be familiar with it. It's not a bad strategy either.

MikeMichaels5797d ago

...Eyetoys were sold worldwide. M$ will be lucky to sell half that.

Sony decided its time to advance the tech and they knew it had to be more/better then what Kinect is capable of.

gallospqra5797d ago (Edited 5797d ago )

you say: "I don't understand why everyone keeps saying Sony passed on the tech...Sony didn't pass on the eye toy (the same tech)."

Where the hell do you live? On a mountain rock? News is just a few rows under this one: http://n4g.com/news/577937/...

OSU_Gamer5797d ago (Edited 5797d ago )

@gallospqra

In your link Sony says that they felt Kinect and Eye Toy were limited. No where does it say that they passed on the tech. Even if they did offically say that somewhere else, the fact is they didn't pass on the tech. They developed the tech and sold it, so how is that passing on it? They developed Eye Toy and it failed... I'm not sure what youa re getting at with your post.

And I don't know "where the hell you live," but the article is not news. News is not an anouncement regauarding a competitors product when it is directly competing with yours.

gallospqra5797d ago

I referenced that news (oh sorry, "article") because Marks referenced something that's been said over and over for quite some time:

after Eye Toy (which was last generation) Sony was presented with 2 newest tecnologies to choose: hd motion controls wii-style and 3d cameras, and they chose the first one - meaning they passed on 3d cameras (and THIS is the tech we're talking about and that they passed, not the general use of a camera). I don't really get what's so hard for you to understand in this..

http://ps3.kombo.com/articl... there was a recent interview with HHG as well, do you want me to look for it?

And sorry for the "what the hell..", didn't mean to be offensive!

OSU_Gamer5797d ago (Edited 5797d ago )

I understand exactly what you are saying, they passed on making a successor to the eye toy, but I disagree.

You are assuming that they passed just because Sony thought it was limited, which was just conveniently stated very close to the release of Kinect and Move . I don't understand how you completely ignore the fact that because the previous product failed, there is a lot less of a reason for Sony continue to develop a direct succesor to that product.

It's just comical to see people taking a Sony guy's word like its gospel.

And then you want me take an HHG interview seriously? Come on.

I edited this a couple times.

gallospqra5797d ago

I mentioned HHG because I remember it from E3 (and being it HHG doesn't mean that everyone he talks to speaks gibberish like him), but it's being said so many times. http://www.ps3attitude.com/... http://www.bit-tech.net/new... This is just to say HHG's interview is to be taken seriously, in this case, but I think you've got it.

However, you say "You are assuming that they passed just because Sony thought it was limited, which was just conveniently stated very close to the release of Kinect and Move. I don't understand how you completely ignore the fact that because the previous product failed, there is a lot less of a reason for Sony continue to develop a direct succesor to that product."

Not true: I'm not saying that Eye Toy's failure didn't affect Sony's decision toward Move. Maybe it did, I don't know (no one knows). However, whether it's true or not, they've provided good motives for their decision (not mature tech, etc.). I mean, if 3D cameras have so much potential (and Sony, who already worked on 2D cameras, should have recnognized it easily) it would have been a crazy choice passing that new tech just because the old one failed - and then invent some false excuses to justify that action.

So now it's up to us whether to believe what Sony has said about it or not. You know my point of view, but I guess yours won't change :)

IdleLeeSiuLung5796d ago (Edited 5796d ago )

All I need to say is, before the iPod there was mp3 players, but none as successful. Then Verizon passed on the iPhone and we all know how that went!!!

Companies pass on a thing for a variety of reasons. Nintendo from a few reports seem to claim cost and the ability to research all this technology and putting it togheter. Nintendo unfortunately doesn't have all the in-house technology required for a project as evolved as Kinect. It wouldn't suprise me if Sony was in a similar position.

ATLGAMER5797d ago (Edited 5797d ago )

People just like to disagree on here...but cant back there bs up

proof is in the pudding and the games suck for Kinect.... plain and simple and no real hardcore game can be made for it....and that wacko ass star wars game dont count...Just cause it has star wars on does not make it great

avengers19785797d ago

Not Likely, Showing nothing at the moment that can't be done on a Wii really doesn't scream future of gaming. If MS Xbox shows Kinect having "core" game capabilites like working with Gears 3, or Fable 3 then maybe there is hope, but if not it's just high priced wii games.(60$ for kinect games)

Hades13375797d ago

I don't want Kinect in games like Gears and Fable though, I don't know why anyone would. The challenge for developers is to come up with new experiences for Kinect that resonate with the core gamer. Child of Eden is a fine example.

Silly Ubisoft never learns, you don't say that on N4G. Now you will get lectures by the all mighty, all knowing professional gaming community saying how it's not.

"I think the future is about having a complete hands-free solution for the living room."

Not. Hands-free solution is focusing on the product, not the customer's needs. Casuals and hardcore alike won't be won over by a lack of an actual controller.

Ubisoft: "Laser Tag is the future of gaming" e3 2010..

Briefcase Joe5797d ago (Edited 5797d ago )

That right there is enough to not take anything Ubisoft says seriously.

MajestieBeast5797d ago

Shall with the joke that is ubisoft now that we are on a roll.

-The breathing game is the future.
-Killing the driver franchise by making the dude telepathic is the future.
-Lasertag is the future.
-Shaun White colouring a city on a skateboard is the future.
-Not showing BGE2 is the future
-Not showing i am alive is the future

Sorry ubisoft is only good for a few franchises but most of their games suck.

Ubisoft and their omnipresent 'futurologists' always have their fingers on the 'coolest' cutting edge technology...

...uh, wait..

...oh. No they don't.

dionnysus5797d ago

that was PAINFUL to watch at E3. one of those things i wish i could un-see

djfullshred5797d ago

haha, great response.

You are right on target here. Any company that shows off laser tag in a 2010 E3 demo should not be taken seriously in their predictions of the future of gaming.

PS Move:

Honestly, I didn't think they could do it, it was too ambitious and probaly will fail in every aspect, lag, quality games, marketing etc. It's Sony afterall.

Kinect˜:

Incredible expanding world with multinationals like Microsoft.

An incredible opportunity to bring the future of entertainment in our home.

Follow the light, follow Kinect˜ this holiday.

Poseidon5797d ago (Edited 5797d ago )

EDIT you must like that theres no open zone now huh

DJMarty5797d ago

Pew Pew Pew, need I say more. lol

Kinect is retarded

weazel5797d ago (Edited 5797d ago )

"Follow the light?"
Oooh, that's a bit of a touchy subject for your core-market demographic of near to death grandmothers then?

nintenflo5797d ago

I think everyone on N4G is GIGA-LOLing @ YOU!!!

Motorola5797d ago

You may think Move is a fail, but how many Kinect fail articles have we seen? Exactly.

Theonik5797d ago (Edited 5797d ago )

Why hello Mr Greenberg, shouldn't you be playing Kinectimals now? Wouldn't want to leave skittles alone now would you?

I can't sit here and act like I know these workers financial situations. And I'm sure nobody wakes up WANTING to go to court. But for the sake of the industry, I wish some of these types of cases made it to trial.

Settlements allow companies to continue to do whatever abusive practices they do. While the trials (should the company lose) would actually force real changes for the better.

But again, I'm not in these workers shoes and I can understand them not wanting to risk it.
