Somewhere at the nexus of Asteroids and Geometry Wars stands Meteor Blitz HD, an arcade shooter that has high production values but a difficult control scheme and ultimately a brutal learning curve.

The Quality index highlights the Top 5 vertical space shmups for iPhone.
No place for the brilliant Espgaluda II on this highly competitive rundown.

Meteor Blitz has two modes with an arcade level based mode, as well as an endless survival mode. The arcade mode has six stages with five levels per stage increasing in challenge with the number and types of enemies. The game features autopause when you release the controls, live in game scores, and picks up right where you left off.

No Dpad:
Alley Labs released Meteor Blitz for the iPhone a couple of months ago, and since then, competition has been ramped. Chillingo released Minigore and Guerrilla Bob, indie developers started to take their own shots at the genre, and overall, it became one heck of a mess.
But even through all the competition, Meteor Blitz still stands as one of the best dual-stick shooters on the iPhone. And from its conversion from the iPhone to iPad, the awesomeness is still there, and maybe even increased due to the larger screen. While I would have liked to see some new features, Meteor Blitz HD is the best dual-stick shooter you’ll find for your iPad.
