Could PlayStation Plus=PS+Steam?

"This week at E3 we were met with a megaton announcement from Valve's one and only Gabe Newell. While everyone was jumping up and down at the news that Portal 2 would indeed be coming to PlayStation 3 owners, it was also revealed that it would be the best version on the consoles and will support Steamworks."

Sounds like it could be true. I'm sure we will find out here next or the following week.

ShinMaster5820d ago

Well, it's pretty much what's happening with Portal 2 on PS3. So I guess it can't be far from the truth.

DJexs5820d ago

how awesome would it be if valve treated the ps3 like the mac and you didn't have to buy all your old games over. That would be awesome to have l4d series on my ps3 without having to pay again.

Only way Steam/Valve will involve themselves with Sony, is if they get a piece of the pie. Streamline revenue is a win for any company.

raztad5820d ago

This article is making a lot of sense. Wow, I knew Gabe on Sony stage was megaton but under the light of this article it's now obvious why Gabe just couldnt refuse to work with Sony. This is a HUGE deal for VALVE.

SubZero5820d ago

This would sell me on PSN+. Right now its exactly what they said Qore would be and im not falling for that again

gameplayingfool5820d ago

Either way, I'm just looking forward to Portal 2!

but I honestly don't see the point in PS+ at the moment. It offers no features as we know of, so how is it bettering our gaming experience? Besides, I might as well just buy a 50$ PSN card and buy stuff I'd actually enjoy, and be able to keep without an ongoing subscription.

I really am sick of the fact that Sony always have rough starts with their services on almost everything they did this gen. I have no problem with rough starts, but when the rough start, starts to be a drag and no progression it gets extremely irritating IMO. I just feel as PS+ isn't worth the 50$ ATM. What my biggest turn off about PS+ is that Jack didn't name features, and he had the nerves to say that the service will get better over time.

I'm sorry, but when it comes to waiting, I defo do not have the patients for Sony anymore. PS3 gamers have been waiting for basic online features for 2 years, and still did not recieve. I just don't want to pay and wait for something I should of had in the beginning. well, sorry for the rant.

"might as well just buy $50 psn card"

i hadnt thought of it like that and with the fact you lose your "free" games when your subscription ends i also think its better not to subscribe as i only spend about $50 a year on psn anyway and get to keep my stuff. But i will keep an eye on the service content and may subscribe in the future

omni_atlas5819d ago

Don't forget DC Universe; where PS3/PC users will play online together.

Perhaps Steamworks is the bridge?

Would make a lot of sense to be honest, Steam is offered to just about anyone who wishes to use it. MS turned them down because they have XBL and want to keep all the rewards of it. So Sony doing this would be a great move for PS3.

halojunkie5820d ago

i play steam often and im ALREADY sold on ps+, one of the best moves sony could have ever made. im fkn thrilled. too many ps3 exclusives coming its insane.

Nick2120045820d ago

Wow man! I never thought of it that way. You may very well have found something monumental for PS3!

Sarick5820d ago

steam has it's own cross game chat, could this mean it'll be another way to access cross game chat?

What about PC games like FF11 etc.

Philaroni5820d ago

More then an idea at this point. Way to much evidence to support it for it not to happy. A very least has to be some kind of Steam integration on the PSN soon.

When logic meets EA it generates anti-matter ..... so try not to apply it in any meaningful way. Entropy is what matters in there !!

The community warned them this would happen but nope they knew better they continued with the live service push the made the art style cartoonish and this is the result

It's always so bizarre when studios announce something super early in development under the suggestion of forming the game to player feedback, and then they push against all feedback heading straight for the cliff while everyone is warning them along the way

US Lawmakers Urge Review Of EA Sale

The Congressional Labor Caucus sent a letter to the FTC warning the debt-financed, largely PIF-owned deal could be bad news for workers

lol ya think? they're sending all that work to the cheaper labor market as soon as possible. and FYI, that labor market has exploded in the last 5-10 years. They have enough people to replace every single job. But honestly, EA is over filled with useless upper management as it is. You could probably trim 25% of their staff with no real loss in production. They aren't gamers, they're business execs. Just look at how many AI related jobs they're already starting to post. Its also hilarious that PIF owns Battle field 6

Wait,

The same congress that attacked Lina Khan when she fought the Microsoft Activision purchase.
The same congress that allowed Disney to buy 90% of Fox
The same congress that allowed Liv Golf to buy the PGA
The same congress that sits back while Paramount tries a hostile takeover despite losing the bid for Warner Bros.

NOW, the suddenly cares about doing what's "right" for works? Yeah, right.

No. There were elections and some of the scum were replaced.

Different elections. Different scum. Same results.

i know its a long shot, but i hope this gets shot down.

EA now owned by The Saudis and Ubisoft to inevitably be owned by China. In hindsight, once EA and Ubisoft started having their financial woes, they should have pulled a Koei Tecmo/Bandai Namco by merging their operations into one.
