Who "won" E3 this year?

Although E3 is far from over (there are still two full days left and the Konami conference is tomorrow), which of the big three had the best media press conference this year? Here are some of the highlights of each conference, an overall grade, and who stole this year's show.

Sony, by a mile.

SnuggleBandit5739d ago

SOOONY :)

nintendo was pretty close though

Microsoft, not so much imo

chrisnick5739d ago

more games, more content, more butler, more of my money gone.

Sony and Nintendo for different reasons.

Nintendo had the best pacing. No BS, they cut right down to the chase. They are the most improved and had the MOST surprises. The 3DS sounds amazing.

Sony's pacing wasn't as great, it bogged down in some areas, but they had the biggest surprises in the end. They represented the company as a whole well, Move delivered, and the exclusives were all good. Didn't care too much for the 3D, PSP, PS2, coca cola, exclusive third party content, etc. Would have liked to see more about TLG, Versus, Agent.

I think Nintendo honestly had the best E3 in terms of presentation. But Sony had the games I cared for most. It's tough to choose and I wont. For different reasons I think both helped me gain and see the confidence in the future of the companies and that's what E3 should do.

MS just went south of that. My confidence died in MS's future and it makes me worried. I still have faith in Reach and Gears, but what is beyond that honestly?

It's hard to determine what factors for winning and why bother? I think gamers enjoyed a lot of things and that's what's most important.

GreenRingsOfLife5739d ago

Before you flame me, wasn't Sony supposed to reveal new "Hardware" ?

Will-UK5739d ago

Sony won imagine if they kept all their exclusives under wraps and never announcement them before E3 it would of been a striaght massacre

Rumor5739d ago

then ninty(3ds rapes psp.....this is true)
then ms

wanted to see TLG, resistance 3, kingdom hearts 3, psp2, and more, but its aaaaall good Son-Dog. lol son-dog teeehee :3

Parapraxis5739d ago (Edited 5739d ago )

Why am I even replying...ughhghgh

@ GreenRingsOfLife, yeah It's called Move, and Sony sren't the ones who even said that, people interpreted poorly.
You fail...at everything.

As for who won, Sony or Nintendo, it comes down to preference for the GAMES really.
That being said.
Anybody who thinks MS won is completely delusional.

UltimateIdiot9115739d ago

I feel the same. Bubble to you.

While Sony had some great stuff, the beginning was slow. Nintendo really step up their presentation. I didn't have much plan to get a 3DS but now I want one.

Eamon5739d ago

Sony won. Nintendo was just a hair off.

MS on the other hand... LOL. They practically abandoned the core gamer and nosedived right into the casual market for $$$
MS conference was BAD.

diatom5739d ago

Think Nintendo had a bigger presentation, Sony had stuff I actually was interested in, and Microsoft had space poncho's.

WildArmed5739d ago

@alpha
exactly!

Sony had great stuff! but they started to rush it because of poor pacing.
Maybe they could have gotten rid of some montages and some lines in their speeches.

nintendo was amazing (surprizingly!), I was expecting alot from Nint. since they have been bombing E3 for the last few years.
They hit the nail on the head with this one.
So they totally surprised me with the quality of their E3.

So it's a Sony - Nintendo win. It's tie only broken by whether you own a sony console over nint. console.

So yeah, WOW.
Best E3 day yet!

BannedForNineYears5739d ago

Kevin Butler's speech just topped E3 off..........
Sony dominated, anyone who disagrees is simply biased.

brought back a game that i grew up with Twisted Metal and games i look forward to seeing (portal 2 game play footage revealed at SONY's conference) added with Kevin Butlers epic speech

vhero5739d ago

Sony with nintendo coming second. Still cant get over MS having an entire conference for Kinect yet still wasting 75% of there main conference talking about it. No cool surprises except the console relaunch which is no good we wanted games and Sony stole the show on that.

Sarcasm5739d ago

It's between Sony and Nintendo.

However, Nintendo's got me really going with Zelda, Donkey Kong Country 2, Goldeneye, and the 3DS.

I think the 3DS was their highlight.

The only real good thing about the MS conference was the re-designed 360. Kinect was a joke.

AWWWWWWWWW YEAH!!!!!

Noble Spartan5739d ago

Nintendo plain and simple Sony & MS are awful shows. move sucked wii too

Ravage275739d ago (Edited 5739d ago )

i have a lot of respect for Nintendo and they had a great E3. Personally though, 3DS was the only thing that interests me and i still have no clue how it works! I can easily see how the new zelda, mario and donkeykong games wins E3 for Nintendo fans but those are franchises that have never appealed to me so it's definitely Sony for me. MGS and KH for DS is pretty cool but i'm content with Peacewalker and Birth by Sleep...and i'm really excited about The 3rd Birthday.

While i admit that Sony's conference had bad pacing, it had everything i wanted see + plenty of nice surprises. Gabe appearance might be the megaton to some, but it's definitely Twisted Metal for me. And it's really been a while since a game announcement got me THIS excited :)

I'm really happy with this E3 and i think that should be the case for everyone. Kinect blunders aside(not sure what happened, did not watch), even the 360 boys have their halo and gears to get excited over.

FFXI1015739d ago

Nintendo did well this year, so much better than the last E3.

However, with PS MOVE, PSN+, all first party exclusives, third party games, 3D gaming/movie and let's not forget Kevin Bulter. I think Sony's conference is the best!

Seferoth755739d ago

Sorry I cant give them points for finally getting into this gen by copying Nintendo with Move. Like "hey Nintendo did this 3 years ago so lets take off points now for being ahead of the game."
Nintendo also had 3D and it was 3D without glasses but that doesnt get any points from you I see. First party exclusives were just as interesting to gamers. PSN+? really? lol....

Oh and yeah that KB game is awesome. I mean when you are at a gaming expo its all about the games and that game really added to what the PS3 has to offer.

Seriously it is beyond sad that at a gaming expo Sony fans are pulling up some act as proof they won the show...

the bastards5739d ago (Edited 5739d ago )

nothing much new happened with sony, it was mostly cause it was all pre-E3 leaked. all that was new was some exclusive content and packaging for some games. twisted metal didn't look impressive at all. the biggest surprise of sony's E3 was that R3 was NOT going to be there.

i'd say MS won. ps3 gamers said a 360 silm was NEVER going to happen (do to stupid reasons) and yet it did, why ps gamers didn't like ms's E3 was cause they were making improvements. all that's left for ps3 gamers to talk about instead of the age old RROD discussion with the 360 slim is you have a scratched disc if you shake the damn console while it's playing......lame, who does that anyway?

Prcko5739d ago

Defenetly Sony
Twisted Metal BABY!!!

kalebgray925739d ago

for being the most advanced.. then nintendo for bringing back all the games i loved on n64... i will actually buy a wii now.... i already have 2 ps3's and and xbox... after reach my 360 will gather dust

Xander7565739d ago

Sony was good no doubt but I think Nintendo had to take this one based off just how many blockbuster exclusives they announced. There was literally a game from just about every one of their major characters!

ExPresident5739d ago

That might be true with the game for everyone of their major characters but another Mario title, especially Sports Mix does nothing for me, and I mean nothing.

chrisnick5739d ago

i think the only reason that was because we haven't seen most of them in years...they've had time. and the 10 games they showed between wii and ds was easily at least equaled by the same amount sony showed.... for the ps3 only.

Xander7565739d ago

Sony did SHOW a lot, but I don't know if they announced 10 NEW titles for the PS3. Counting the ones for Move I think there were about 4 or 5. Infamous 2, Heroes on the Move, Sorcery, and Twisted Metal. Any I'm missing that were newly announced?

chase1675739d ago (Edited 5739d ago )

1.sony
2.nintendo
3.ea
5.ubisoft tied
5.microsoft tied

LittleBigPlanet 2
inFamous 2
Final Fantasy XIV
Portal 2
Twisted metal
Gran Turismo 5
DEAD SPACE 2
Medal on Honor
Socom 4
psp God of War: Ghost of Sparta
etc.
what more

Hideo_Kojima5739d ago

Statisticalyl that would be...

1.0 - sony
2.0 - nintendo
3.0 - ea
4.5 - ubisoft tied
4.5 - microsoft tied

But I would put Ubisoft in 4 and Microsoft in 5 on its own.

Cajun Chicken5739d ago

Nintendo. Although IF SOMEONE HADN'T PASSED OUT LOTS AND LOTS OF INFORMATION OF UNANNOUNCED GAMES A FEW WEEKS BEFORE, it would of certainly been Sony.

Pachter: "I Think The New Xbox Console Is Already Dead, They've Blown It by Embracing Game Pass"

Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter believes the next Xbox console might be already dead due to Microsoft embracing Game Pass at $30.

You know the world is f’d up when Michael Pachter has given up cheerleading Xbox.

Eonjay13h ago

The crazy part is that this crazy fool was saying that Sony was doomed (or in his words 'going to be run over by Microsoft') because of GamePass after the Activision Deal. He was the one telling them to embrace GamePass and now that its killed them he is acting like he never said that.

Iceball200011h ago

I agree but that was before they doubled the price of game pass

peppeaccardo6h ago

this senile old f@rt is still in business ?

blacktiger6h ago

You know the world is f'd up when investors listen to Michael Patchtcher after the advice "Sony is doomed if Microsoft buys Activision and put it out on gamepass"and now he's saying "I Think The New Xbox Console Is Already Dead, They've Blown It by Embracing Game Pass"

I feel bad for investors.

Wouldn't it be the case of Pachter finally agreeing with parts of us rather than we agreeing with him?

I remember vividly that back in the day when GP was introduced and shaped further, many of us were saying that it's a great service on one hand. But were also already skeptical, too, as to how Microsoft would be able to keep the service running financially in the future.

Or/and how it would affect studios and game development in general.

As of March 2026, I think we have the answers some of us anticipated back then, when it was still Pachter who had forecasted «100 million subscribers».

Outside_ofthe_Box9h ago

A lot of this is just basic logic and common sense.

How much does it cost to develop a game? How much does it cost to market a game? How much does it cost pay devs/publishers to release on GamePass?

How much do users pay per month/year on GamePass? How many users does Microsoft need to be subscribed at once for them to truly be profitable to where GamePass pays for ITSELF(i.e not including stuff like in app purchases that they would get regardless of GamePass' existence).

You would need a large amount of subscribers or increase it's price to a point where it's no longer a "bargain" for it to be profitable.... if you're asking me. For some reason Pachter didn't see it that way nor did MS' users.

bigfish16h ago

Likely the next Xbox will have a premium price tag so they have some profit margin on the low numbers they sell. We all know that the bulk of revenue will come from 3rd party sales on other devices and perhaps some from game pass.

Hypertension14011h ago(Edited 11h ago)

Not to mention the fact that if it does have steam, nobody is going to buy games off the windows store.

If they dont have free online, this thing is dead to me.

TheCaptainKuchiki15h ago(Edited 15h ago)

And even Gamepass flopped. The end goal of Gamepass was to be hegemonic, to kill game purcahses with subscriptions. But that never happened. Game sales are still thriving, Gamepass' subscriber count has stalled, it's costly for MS and studios and its price is increasing.
The purchase of Activision allows them to hide Gamepass' failure. Not suprising that gamepass was removed from Nadella yearly bonus, they knew they would never hit the targets.

Michiel198914h ago

the tinfoil hat is on!
You think they spend 75 billion to hide that gp isnt doing well? XD
They totally didnt buy activision because they got some of the biggest and most profitable ips on the planet, but instead they bought it so you can't say online that gamepass failed!! that's totally the reasoning fr fr

Outside_ofthe_Box9h ago

He never said any of that..

Said that it ALLOWED them to, not that it was THE reason for the purchase...

Rainbowcookie14h ago

I am not a Pachter fan , but I have to agree...who would have though. It used to be to sell cheaper hardware that is subsidised by First party game sales in the first few years until you can reach millions owning the console and by that time you can cheapen your hardware because the tech have been revised. With gamepass on everything and developers losing sales that option is now limited. With the onset of more options for games and developers going for Gass gambling FOMO style games and dlc consumers have become rightfully picky. Add that to growing hardware prices and escalating ram and pandering to society... it kills a brand. Most og gamers are gonna find you out and stay away. Put on the pressure of companies demanding higher revenue for sales, the poor developer has no other option to put a new coat of paint on a copy of another successful game. Innovation , what we are looking for doesn't happen a lot because the danger of failing could lead to budget cuts and them letting you go...so you play it safe and make a copy of a copy. Yes we get genres and types but 80% is the same game we have had for ages. So then because you are scared you let them put it on gamepass and you know you know at least what you get.
