I absolutely loved the original. So it is no doubt I would love to see a sequel to it. Many people bashed it for length, but I felt it was one of the best stories told this gen. The story and characters were fantastic, not to mention the gameplay as well.

I hope they make the game longer and add more replay value if this is true.

I don't think so. They weren't confident in the first Heavenly Sword at all and thought it would sell disasterously, then announced that they're never doing a sequel for the game.

They came off, to me, as a company that didn't believe in what they created or the platform that they made it on (PS3 was selling badly back then) and then announced that they'd be making multiplatform games. It's what separates them from a company like Insomniac in my eyes.

Oh, and their game sold well over 1mil copies....

It'd be great if a sequel does come up, but I really wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't. I really want one because I bought and enjoyed the first, too.

EDIT: Unless a different studio works on it. If that happens, I want Santa Monica on that, STAT!

It's one of those games that I liked but didn't get much attention from the masses. It had an interesting story and it was fun to play. It is unfortunate that it was released when the PS3 was still in it's infancy. Sales weren't that high due to the install base and I think the developers took that as a fail on their part.

I believe that Heavenly Sword has enough foundation to make a great franchise. If the developers look a bit harder and see that most great games in the early PS3 days struggled, like Uncharted, then maybe they will see that releasing a sequel now would be more beneficial. I hope E3 announces a sequel but I think this developer said they were working on something else.

Please let this be true, Heavenly Sword was EPIC and words cannot describe it. If you have not done so please go buy it and play it.

Heavenly Sword was a criminally underrated game, and is more than deserving of a sequel. Maybe even a prequel of sorts, so that the original cast can return in the game. But as morganfell said, this is just BS speculation. There isn't anything remotely associated with Heavenly Sword mentioned in the article. As much as I would love to see the franchise continue, I wouldn't put too much hope in this - at least not based on this article.

A heavenly sword sequel (or prequel if they want more Nariko) would be awesome. sony won't let their IP go to waste, especially after the sucess of GOWIII. Sony should hand over development of HS2 to Sony Santa Monica... that would be AWESOME!!!!

I understand a new studio like Ninja Theory, and the pressures of development, their new game however seems abit close to HS, and it does not look like they are really innovation. Anyone else notice how similar the lead character of enslaved is to Nariko?

about 1.4 million copies worldwide. I'd say that's better than initially thought. Enough to warrant a sequel considering it being a new IP.

Heavenly Sword is one of the most beautiful games on the PS3 still today and I will never forget how epic was this game for me.

I would hate to compare it but in terms of excitement HS was more epic to me at the time I played it then GoW3 was for me on this march/2010 when I played/plat trophy it.

Well after reading the article.. It really fails to connect the dots that this will be Heavenly Sword 2, it just says 'core gamer 3rd person action/combat title'

That could be syphon filter, it could be something completely new that never makes the light of day; we really don't know. It very well could have been getaway 2 or eight days. It just says unannounced. It's quite a leap in logic to assume it's heavenly sword 2.

I've been trying to get Heavenly Sword for a minute (a while) now. I believe that game was very underrated whn it first came out just because ppl didn't like the PS3's launch price.

heavenly sword was kickass. Even though the sixaxis is a after thought now in ps3 games. There was nothing more fun than using it to get kai to shoot arrows in peoples faces. Or using it to shoot canonballs at hundreds of on screen enemies. In fact i have yet to see another game that has that many enemies on screen with those graphics without a single hitch in framerate. Bring back kai! I want to shoot arrows in people faces! hell i might pop in heavenly sword in my ps3 when i get home lol.

I would like to see a Heavenly Sword 2. I wonder who would be the main character? I also think it would be cool if Sony was to make a PSP version of Heavenly Sword too. I also think it would be cool. If Sony was to make Ninja Theory a first party studio. I could see some neat things come out of that if Sony did buy Ninja Theory.

I wonder what the game is. I hope Sony will announce the game soon. If it is not Heavenly Sword 2. I hope for Eight Days, Getaway 3 or hardware online arena 2.

That being said I hope the game will be be HS2. Because I want to know what happens in the story next.

Ninja Theory and Sony had some serious disagreements, and that's why they never did a sequel in the first place. Although I'd love to hear Anna Torv again, she's so awesome in FRINGE.

The Heavenly Sword Engine is a great engine. Heavenly Sword released in 2007 looks better than 90% of games released to date. I look forward to playing Heavenly Sword 2 whenever it comes out...if it comes out.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
