You probably remember running backwards 40 yards with Joe Montana and launching it up for a touchdown to Jerry Rice. You probably remember jackknifing your way through the defense with Bo Jackson. And to have this experience return with both the old-school visuals and the benefit of a spruced-up 3D presentation is a definite bonus."

Alex S. from Link-Cable writes: "We only have a few weeks left in our look at whether certain game remakes trumped their predecessors and this sixth part we are turning our attention from Dracula’s castle to the gridiron for a match between Tecmo Bowl and its modern remake Tecmo Bowl: Throwback. Now I’m not the biggest football fan (hockey is more my speed) but I loved playing Tecmo Bowl back in the day on the NES, especially in multiplayer. The game wasn’t really all that much about football but a great competitive, arcade-style experience that could be experienced just as well by sports fans and casual gamers alike. In 2010 the game was remade (using mechanics from its sequel Tecmo Super Bowl) as Tecmo Bowl: Throwback, a more modern take on the classic for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360’s digital stores."

GamesBeat compiled a list of options for forlorn college football fans.

Tecmo Bowl Throwback on Xbox LIVE Arcade has a lot of similarities to Tecmo Super Bowl on NES. Unfortunately, this includes the bad stuff.
