I hope that this does either fix itself or Sony administer a fix. I'm really annoyed by the fact my PS3 is in a state of limbo, between being alive or dead.

Are we to get excited about a rumor that Sony didn't come out and confirm. The same way that we should dismiss "stories" about PS3 Slim owners emailing some random nuttjob about failures, we should dismiss this. If it happens, great. But Sony didn't mention it at all. Non-story here.

this error has nothing to do with the PSN, it has to do with the old ps3 models thinking that this year is leap year.

I've read form many users confirming that taking the battery out of the ps3 and reconnecting it will fix this problem; however, you will void your warranty. If you have already voided your warranty then might as well give it a shot. Look for youtubes on how to take apart your ps3, and what to look for.

In my situation, it seems ignorant is bliss as I don't know what's wrong with all of your guys' PSNs but all my games work online?

If the internal clock thinks 2010 is a leap year then 02/03/2010 will be 01/03/2010 for the internal clock, it won't say tomorrow is day 2, and the same problem will happen until they do something with PSN or BIOS to stop checking the date or add 1 day to fat PS3.

In a few hours-left from 12/31 to 1/1 we go lets all hope that everything resets itself back to 3/1/2010.

The PS3 is a minisupercomputer so if it does fix itself then yeah that would be pretty neat. Waitaminute...if the ps3 fixes itself then that means it is learning->omfg it gonna take over the worlAQRGH HAGRGasv

is this just happening to people that are automatically signed into the network? i have an older 80 gig bc model and only thing i noticed was the reset date and time. i just changed it to correct date and time before i decided to put on a game and dont notice and problems. trophies are all still there. i have not signed onto the network though and wont do so until this is resolved. will i need a patch or update too even though it seems to be working fine? just seemed to reset my clock.

I think its 2hr wait its 10pm gmt now and in 2hrs itll be 12am march 2nd gmt, and around the world itll make it march 1st gmt for everyones ps3s.

At least The PS3 fixes itself unlike the 360 which dies and stays dead.

Actually interesting reading some of these comments. Its not a global meltdown of the PSN. Its not a meltdown of hardware. Its not a meltdown of Sony Corp. Relax. If you have kids, spend some more time with them. If you have a wife or girlfriend, give'm some tender luvin. Play your DS. Play your PSP. Heck, play your 360. Go outside. Do something other than complain article after article after article.

I expect Sony will resolve the issue in 24 hours and it will be back to business. Silly that their internal clock issue is causing this many problems but it is what it is. If they can fix (and I believe they can), it'll come shortly.

The real fun begins when this is put right, I was playing bioshock 2 after the issues began (I didn't realize the problem had occurred). I earned trophies (fulfilled the requirements) but never earned the said trophies.

Now Bioshock is missing from my Trophy list (on my PS3 but not PS.com). When the clock is fixed I wonder if syncing my trophies will leave BS2 missing from my list or not?

If a lot of people start loosing trophies a whole new issue starts for Sony.

As much of a fan I am of Sony there is no excuse for this and the issues people are having. They messed up. But the bottom line is I still watch movies on my PS3 and I can still play the Darksiders demo. I haven't had to purchase multiple PS3's and I HARDLY doubt I'm going to have to get a new one due to this clock bug.

Either way when Microsoft practices poor business decisions that result in RROD and Sony screws up and causes a bug to crash tons of PS3's we as gamers all lose. We lose because we've bought multiple 360's due to a company error or we don't call Sony and complain and demand compensation because we enable them. If we don't show our anger, and our issues with this with our wallets and our voices they'll continue to slip up, cut corners, and nickle and dime us to death. We all lose.

On the PSN blog is states that "The affected PS3s can't play games or connect to the PlayStation Network, and their system clocks have been automatically reset to 12/31/99." so if the system clock reset itself to 1999 then how is it going to automatically realize it's 3-1-10? If it were this simple, Sony would have already said so. Don't you think that would be one of the first things they would check?

To those brave enough to open up their console if you are out of warranty, the battery removal DOES in fact work. I got my 60 gig up and running and playing some MAG thanks to the 5 minute job.

My 80 gig phat never had this problem, but it is already fixed for almost everyone. I think Sony responded well to this issue, and as long as everyone gets all there stuff back I don't see this as an issue. I have been enjoying free psn service for some time and this is the first problem of it's kind, and I don't expect to see one again. I think everyone can come in off the ledge now.

I lost one trophy off Dantes Inferno and it was the last one I'd got last night. The gates of hell one...ah well eh.
At least I got my fix for tonight.

heavy rain some trophies erased, but that was because i tried the game out during the duration of that error global thing. But now i have to get some back

Hey guys I have a PS3 (fat) 80Gb and I can't get online to get updates until spring break (college sucks!) so I was wondering, if I turn on my PS3 today (which I haven't in a week due to being busy) will there be any sort of error? This is a legitimate question and I'm sorry but I'm not very familiar with what the error is.. something about us having a leap year? Thanks in advance!

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
