Fallout 3 PC mods now also on the 360

Someone has figured out how to put Fallout 3 PC mods on the Xbox 360, which until now was impossible.

"Ok, I'll explain it the best I can. Firstly, I used xexloader to install fallout 3 to an external usb hd from the retail disc. (I already had the expansion packs installed) It would probably work just as well if you installed to the internal hd.
Anywhos... I then connected the hd to my computer where I used xextool to patch the xex to the latest version using the method outlined here.
Then, I edited the fallout3.ini as instructed by the "manual" instructions from this.
Then I took the contents of the mod and put them in their respective places in the fallout 3 directory.
I had noticed earlier that the title update container had an esp file in it so, i figured what the heck? Its a longshot, but ill give it a try. So....
Then, I used this guide to help me make a live container for the mods files. Im not sure what all I needed to put in it, so I just put everything in. The esp file and the folders. Just make sure you fill out the gameid and other stuff for fallout 3. Also, instead of telling it youre making a demo, select the "content" option. When that was all said and done, I had a shiny new live container. I just dropped it into the retail hd with the rest of the expansions.
After getting everything put back together, I loaded up fo3 through xexloader and what do ya know? My little "House Mod" showed up in the downloads list. :)
The first save I tried was a later save and it took a couple tries to get it to load. It wasnt until I tried an early one that everything seemed to load up and actually work.
Thats it! I hope someone can take this, make some sense of it, clean it up and streamline the process.
Have fun!"

Why not just play the PC version rather than go through that hassle?

SilentNegotiator5977d ago (Edited 5977d ago )

It'll probably land you a ban.

I guess it's a cool (But kinda complicated) find, if you don't plan on using LIVE anymore.

A Cupcake for Gabe5977d ago

That is really cool. If MS wasn't such douchebag when it came to modding, I would do this. I assume the modding's only issue is achievement cheating. But I always wanted to have more classic tunes on my radio and a light saber.

Speaking of music. Why in the hell didn't fallout 3 give you a radio channel that plays your XMB/360Dashboard in-game music? Hmm...? Maybe with Vegas.

Elven65977d ago

On the 360 the guide has a built in music player.

oldsnayke5977d ago

Just a suggestion, but you do realize there are other things you could be doing than just tinkering around with how to put mods on a 360, right? as in, you know... hittin' the clubs with some friends or something. ;)

likedamaster5977d ago

So why are you here posting and not "hittin' the clubs"?

starchild5976d ago

Nice one, likedamaster.

@ Bastard up there

Why not just play the PC version? For the same reason people are playing the PS3 version. People choose which platform or platforms they want to own and they usually play games on the ones they own. Duh!

Too much effort oh well least its some form of coup for 360 but PC has been doing it much better and easier for a long time.

dangert125977d ago

if they was smart they would use they new found modding ability to do one over the ps3

CrippleH5977d ago

PS3 could support mod ages ago with UT3.
Most likely MS will ban the user for doing this anyways.

siyrobbo5977d ago

you have to have a jtagged box anyway, which you cant use on live so it wouldnt matter about getting banned

GUNS N SWORDS5977d ago

all this guy has to do is make it into a downloadable .exe and gamers wont have to go through all that hassle. you take that .exe mod, burn it on to a disc and then presto, the 360 should read it as a patch for the game.

XNA is really good at helping people make their own little executable programs, he should lean of couple of them before having people start fiddling with their consoles.

Kushan5977d ago

I don't think you've understood the complexity of this "mod". It requires a JTAG-hacked (Read: Soldered and flashed from your PC) 360 before you even begin his instructions and due to the way content on the 360 works, you NEED to go through all that hassle to get this to work. It's not really a practical thing to do, but interesting and potentially useful none the less.

tdrules5977d ago

just proof 360 is nothing more than a simplified PC with a server CPU
and the lack of RAM means any FO3 mods worth installing like hd textures will simply not run

champ215977d ago

the 360 and ps3 are pcs, which are completely under the control of their respective manufacturer.

They leave little to no control for the user. Its like being trapped with a system where games cost quite a bit more, hardware accessories are priced at a premium, online is charged. Its a complete milkfest. All they offer in return for the typical fanboy are afew exclusives per year, in return the user ends up paying much higher for the rest of the game experience.

meanwhile on a performance basis they perform like a 3-4yr old midrange pc.

mfwahwah5977d ago

You sound like console gamers get shafted.

I have a PS3. Cost me $400 (~$200 less then what a gaming PC would cost me).

I get exclusive games. I can still buy PC games on my old gaming PC. I DON'T pay for online. I mean, it's not as bad as you make it seem. Only thing I really miss out on is upgrading it myself (which I don't mind missing out on) and installing programs (which I have my PC for).

Saaking5977d ago

@champ
You described the 360. PS3 is nowhere near as bad.

champ215977d ago (Edited 5977d ago )

ps3 still charges alot more for its games compared to pc version, while being inferior, that still applies:P

but yea i agree ps3 is a far better bargain then the 360.

ps3 atleast has afew exclusives which would interest me, 360 none at all.

Kushan5977d ago

You do realise that this exact process would work on the PS3 if the PS3 allowed unsigned code to run as well? THe only reason this works is because the console was hacked, otherwise the console itself prevents it. The PS3 is no different in this case and some day, if it ever gets hacked properly, this kind of "modding" will work all the same.

Would be nice if they had New Vegas ready as well, especially because of the show.

Hopefully this doesn't have the same performance issues as Oblivion Remastered.

cloganart141d ago

I haven't seen anything on these performance issues? What's been going on?

walken7141d ago

Probably the Unreal Engine issues, I skipped it for that reason.

Snookies12142d ago (Edited 142d ago )

Throw in all the DLC as well, like Oblivion and I'll definitely bite. I recall having one trophy left to unlock on the PS3 version with 100+ hours in my save. When my save file got corrupted, lol. Very sad day.

To be fair though, Bethesda was trash at Playstation ports anyway.

Michiel1989141d ago

all devs sucked at porting to ps3 for the first like 3 years because no one had experience with the cell architecture. Even 1st party took a long while to get proficient with it, the difference between uncharted 1 and 3 is massive for example.

Extermin8or3_141d ago

Oh oh oh I can do this too. GTA 7 will be made at some point in the future. Fallout 5 will enter development in the future too

jznrpg141d ago

Everyone there should know most gamers want New Vegas and Morrowind more than anything.

Christopher141d ago

Which is why we won't get them. Gotta keep floating "support this one and it might happen".

BlaqMagiq1141d ago

Can't wait. Won't have to go back to my PS3 to play this when it comes out.

Fallout 3 remastered on the Nintendo Switch 2 is what we deserve, not the worst Fallout game

Fallout Day's disappointing news that Fallout 4 is coming to Switch 2 is a shame, as this 17-year-old entry is more deserving of a new port.

Why exactly do you think you deserve it??

Phoenix76213d ago

Fallout 4 isn't the worst game in the franchise. It's either Fallout 76 or Fallout BOS that's the worst.

gigoran8213d ago

PC and all other modern consoles never got a remaster of 3, but obviously the switch 2 was the tipping point to make it a reality... ahuh

1nsomniac213d ago

Meh, I thought 3 was garbage. I'm not a great fan of the franchise to be fair. They're like B-Movie films, really shallow and janky. 4 was definitely one of the better ones though.

UltimateOwnage212d ago

So the article makes a snippy entitled statement and acts like that is going to encourage a publisher to give them what they want. Okay.

Give us FO3 with all the dlc remastered like ESO. Load times faster, quality of life improvements, gun play improvements

I believe it shouldn't just be graphical they should make improvements where they can to make the game better. A simple face lift isn't what's needed

ZeekQuattro401d ago

Still my favorite one. I remember getting a digital copy of FO3 when I got FO4(XBO). It was nice to finally play a stable version of the game. Then when I got a Series S it was an even better expierence. Quick resume and FPS boost made it feel like a whole new game. Updated gunplay would be very welcome though. One of the few things FO4 did better.
