IGN: Fallout 3 vs. Metro 2033

To better grasp the horrors within, it's instructive to compare Metro 2033 to Fallout 3. In both, the remnants of civilization are besieged by mutants, bandits, and the invisible sickness of radiation poisoning. Yet while they are superficially similar, at their core the games are nothing alike. Fallout is riddled with in-jokes. Metro is as serious as cancer.

I think based just on the summary above, I would prefer Fallout 3 to a game like Metro 2033 because I don't think I could play a game that was purely depressing and bleak. With that said, I found Fallout 3 to be pretty depressing itself, so if Metro 2033 is even more serious, then I don't think I would want to play it for too long. I stopped playing Fallout 3 because it was so bleak in my opinion.

This what I posted in a Fallout New Vagas article

'While the apocolypse is all good and dark try to give us a bit more hope.'

And as such I fully agree with you, why am I even bothering to kill super mutants when the people I try and save will just end up killing each other in a few years.

Why do all games set in the future either have

1. BIG WAR 90% of people are dead
2. Everyone lives under a dictatorship and no one else will help you set them free.

My predictions on the future

1. It'll be just like now, the politicians will still lie and Big Brother will still suck
2. The TV's will be skinnier
3. Humans WILL NOT be mutated by disease/fallout/experiments
4. It will be better than today and today is pretty awsome for those in the west, but I do feel for those who suffer and that's one thing that'd be better in the future is Affrica improves and stone age goverments evolve. While I do admit that poverty will probably never be history I do be believe unnessecory suffering should be stopped.

Chrono Trigger has a post apocalyptic world nearly 16 years ago. And "3" in the name clearly shows that there were Fallout games prior.

Numark5958d ago

yea...let's compare a linear 1st person shooter to an open world RPG that only share a similar setting...that is like comparing mario to dragon age orgins because they both have castles. I could see IGN doing it now, while mario takes a much more humorous and cartoony approach, dragon age orgins is more serious....

Baka-akaB5958d ago

what's even more annoying , is how it implies that fallout , hell even worse than fallout 3 alone created the post apocalyptic setting .

ThanatosDMC5958d ago

Dragon Age sadly was very linear. I didnt want it to end but it did. Sad days.

Aleusia5958d ago

I'd rather play fallout new vegas.

ThanatosDMC5958d ago

I just hope it'll be like Bathesda's Fallout 3. I want to explore and hunt and loot. I hope it doesnt turn out to be like Borderlands i want real open world.

Aleusia5958d ago

set in Las Vegas, it's perfect and Bethesda already said it would be done the same way as Fallout 3.

peeps5958d ago

i could be wrong but is the whole game based in the metro? (first time i've heard of the game) if so the fact that the world outside is a wastland won't really matter all that much... and wudnt it get a bit boring? i mean the metro's in fallout 3 did my head in lol

i'll keep an eye on it but for my post appolyptic fix for 2010 i'm waiting on more details for fallout: new vegas

mrv3215958d ago

The Metro's in this game are sort of like a safe heaven for humanity as the outside world is erradiated. Survivors go out into the wastes to get food and supplies.

Regarding the boring metro system... I disagree, look of Bioshock I guarantee to some it sounded like sewers but they made that bioshock world FANTASTIC. There's no reason not to do the same with Metros in this game giving each it's own feel depending who inhabited them.

For example SCIENCE GUYS ONE=Cleaner, less religous
While the christian one might have a statue or a bible and cermonies.

I think fallout is better. There is so much you can do. Plus I don't want to spend all of my time underground. I enjoyed traveling in the wasteland.

Would be nice if they had New Vegas ready as well, especially because of the show.

Hopefully this doesn't have the same performance issues as Oblivion Remastered.

cloganart111d ago

I haven't seen anything on these performance issues? What's been going on?

walken7110d ago

Probably the Unreal Engine issues, I skipped it for that reason.

Snookies12111d ago (Edited 111d ago )

Throw in all the DLC as well, like Oblivion and I'll definitely bite. I recall having one trophy left to unlock on the PS3 version with 100+ hours in my save. When my save file got corrupted, lol. Very sad day.

To be fair though, Bethesda was trash at Playstation ports anyway.

Michiel1989111d ago

all devs sucked at porting to ps3 for the first like 3 years because no one had experience with the cell architecture. Even 1st party took a long while to get proficient with it, the difference between uncharted 1 and 3 is massive for example.

Extermin8or3_111d ago

Oh oh oh I can do this too. GTA 7 will be made at some point in the future. Fallout 5 will enter development in the future too

jznrpg111d ago

Everyone there should know most gamers want New Vegas and Morrowind more than anything.

Christopher111d ago

Which is why we won't get them. Gotta keep floating "support this one and it might happen".

BlaqMagiq1111d ago

Can't wait. Won't have to go back to my PS3 to play this when it comes out.

Fallout 3 remastered on the Nintendo Switch 2 is what we deserve, not the worst Fallout game

Fallout Day's disappointing news that Fallout 4 is coming to Switch 2 is a shame, as this 17-year-old entry is more deserving of a new port.

Why exactly do you think you deserve it??

Phoenix76183d ago

Fallout 4 isn't the worst game in the franchise. It's either Fallout 76 or Fallout BOS that's the worst.

gigoran8183d ago

PC and all other modern consoles never got a remaster of 3, but obviously the switch 2 was the tipping point to make it a reality... ahuh

1nsomniac183d ago

Meh, I thought 3 was garbage. I'm not a great fan of the franchise to be fair. They're like B-Movie films, really shallow and janky. 4 was definitely one of the better ones though.

UltimateOwnage182d ago

So the article makes a snippy entitled statement and acts like that is going to encourage a publisher to give them what they want. Okay.

Give us FO3 with all the dlc remastered like ESO. Load times faster, quality of life improvements, gun play improvements

I believe it shouldn't just be graphical they should make improvements where they can to make the game better. A simple face lift isn't what's needed

ZeekQuattro371d ago

Still my favorite one. I remember getting a digital copy of FO3 when I got FO4(XBO). It was nice to finally play a stable version of the game. Then when I got a Series S it was an even better expierence. Quick resume and FPS boost made it feel like a whole new game. Updated gunplay would be very welcome though. One of the few things FO4 did better.
