Atari 2600 was my first console that I actually owned, but I had played with an Odyssey, Vectrex and other early machines. If I listed every console I have owned (or still own) it would be pretty amazing to look back and know the amount of great games I have had the gift/pleasure to experience.

lol dude im 23 and i feel old!.. i started playing with the 3rd generation, being a chinese nintendo that came with 66 games pre install in the system! and all the games where in english not chinese how awesome is that.. of curse at that time my english was fu.... horrible, hell even my spanish was horrible. i just play the games with my GAMER INSTINCT not even knowing what was going on in the game lol.... anyway had played with one of the first generation sistems the atari 2600... one regret i still have is not have bought the DREAMCAST when it went to sell with like 20 games 4 controlers all for like 100 bucks in a local gamestop that i used to go. that day still hunts me down..

I remember playing star chess with my family in 1981. One of my earliest memories, nevermind gaming memories. Damn it's gone quick.

Gen 1 gamer right here.

I had a console I've never seen again anywhere else. The controller was like a little box with one button on top. It had a thin steel pin for a joystick that moved around in a full circle but was tilted about 10 degrees off square, abit like the joystick for 720 in arcades if anyone remembers that. "Skate or Die".

The only game I remember properly was a motorbike game that rode left to right and then dropped down a level when it got to the edge of the screen. There were boxes on the road and all you had to do was wheelie as you went over the boxes and you wouldnt crash.
Oh, and it had a bit where you hit a ramp flatout and had to jump more and more buses.

Maybe it wasnt a real console, but just a machine with a one game built in, and that might explain why I've never heard of it again , but I think we had 2 games, I just cant remember the other one. I'm pretty sure it was around 1980, before the NES, and for some reason Hanimex rings a bell, but I might be dreaming that.

Cant believe they didnt mention Game & Watch. Along with arcades, that where I really fell in love with games. Popeye, Donkey Kong, Oil Panic, and Octopus were the best.

I used to love the arcades, I'd spend ages just watching people play games (fair enough it was because I didn't have any money to play the games half the time) but there was something magical about arcade games.

The arcades are a thing of the past now and I miss them a lot. My last memories of spending any sort of time at arcades were when I was at college. There was a load of us that used to play SF2, the place was jam packed. It's gone now.

The only time I see arcades are when I go to the sea front in Summer, and it's not quite the same, there are more fruit machines than arcade games.

It's progress I suppose, but it saddens me sometimes.

Yeah, I miss it too. Every weekend we'd line up at the Fish and Chip shop before it was even open, waiting to play the games there, or we'd be rushing there after school for another go at Double Dragon.

Ahh memories.

Even later in life, my friend worked in an arcade and we would wait til closing, smoke a bowl in the back office and then go out and play all the games at our leisure. Good times, noodle salad.

Its not a console but a special mention should go out to the Commodore 64. Man I put some hours into that. We used to have big sleepovers that would go til the sun came up. I never had such a social games machine as that one.

I start up with NES and worked my way through the console wars between Sega Genesis then Super Nintendo to Playstation next was Sega Dreamcast from there I got a plastation 2 after that then was Microsoft Xbox with Xbox Live service right after was Xbox 360 also with Xbox Live blade menu at last the Playstation 3 now.

The most EPIC! consoles at the time period was Playstation, Sega Dreamcast and Playstation 2.

This timeline sure takes me back...

I started gaming in the first years of the 1990's. This was a time where 2D games were at their peak in its golden era, the Arcades were beginning to breath their last breath, and the dawn of the 3D games was just around the corner; I never was aware of all that, though, because I was quite young at the time.

There were many consoles I have played in this decade ranging from the NES to the 3DO, and of course, the PS one which I hold in high regard. The 90's was a great time to be a gamer, and was one of those time periods that was exciting to grow up in with all this innovation and changes happening all around you. This decade wasn't too bad either, but has not come close, in my opinion. I'm sure the new generation would see this decade in a similar light the way I've seen mine.
