Buzz! dev: 'PS3 Home starting to realise potential'

But has 'no idea why' it appeals to people.

Sony's free virtual world Home is "only now starting to realise its potential", Buzz! developer Relentless Software reckons.

According to executive director Andrew Eades, Sony's much-maligned PS3 space "will only get more interesting" as more developers support it.

I remember how excited I was for home... The potential was huge... But trust Sony to screw up the perfect chance to do something amazing... home could of been HUGE!

Pennywise6035d ago

It is still in the making. For something with such huge ambition, it takes time and effort from 3rd party companies. Every time I go to home it is better than the time b4. I do not use it regularly at all, but I always seen a ton of people in there when I check it out.

Shadow Flare6035d ago

Its better then looking at a mii rip off standing. And then standing some more. And then standing a little more.

I've been using home more lately and its gotten to be quite good since I last used it. Though there are still some glaring things which annoy me alot.

Where's the trophy room?
Why can't I play a game of pool or something as soon as I want?
Why do I have to queue?
Why do all the arcades suck in the bowling alley?
Why can't you have picture frames or videos in your apartment?
Why can't I get a pool table for my apartment so I don't have to queue?
Why did they remove the Evac arcade game from the bowling alley and not bring it back?

Those are just a few things that annoy me about how home is being handled. And they really, really should have been fixed by now

I_LOVE_MYSELF6035d ago

You see the differenc between the XBL "mii rip offs" and Sonys Home is the xbox avatars became synonimous with XBL yet Home feels like a stand alone, out of the way feature tacked onto PSN that isnt very well integrated at all...

I think the xbox avatar system is implimented in such a way that it doesnt take anything away from the experience yet it contributes a nice feel for my 360's navigation through my friends list... Its inventive... Its integrated into the system perfectly... Its a part of xbox live...

Yet home on the other hand feels very useless... It is very isolated from the rest of the PSN system... And that is the problem... The avatars were implemented a lot better than home...

Avatars = an addition to XBL that has become synonimous
Home = an isolated part of the PSN network that feels "tacked on" and has no real use...

Then have fun with your 360 avatars gametime. I'll throw in another comparison

Home- a whole continually growing 3D world where you can socialise with friends in a huge variety of ways

360 Avatars- Do nothing

"Home- a whole continually growing 3D world where you can socialise with friends in a huge variety of ways

360 Avatars- Do nothing"

You have fun in your boring "growing world" where you have to queue to do anything what can be considered remotely entertaining...

XBL is Microsofts growing world and avatars are a part of that
Sony seem to have split the two an messed up their community big time in the process...

True Story :D

Shadow Flare6035d ago

Yep, have fun with your 360 avatar

bye

D4RkNIKON6035d ago

I actually agree with you as far as saying the XBL avatars are more integrated into the system where home is a standalone app. It would be cool if they integrated your Home avatar more into the XMB like showing the avatar on your gamercard, and even showing the gamercard when you highlight anyone on your friends list rather than having to hit x to bring it up all the time. But home is really expanding and changes every time you go. I also don't use it all the time but it is definitely a cool place to kill some time and meet some people every now and then. I also like that there are more and more game spaces becoming available so that you can hang with people who play the same games you do. XBL is just jealous

raztad6035d ago (Edited 6035d ago )

When MS comes up with a home ripoff you will see more people around here excited about the incredible new feature :D, and some outlets calling it "the innovation of the year"

Last time I logged into Home I was really surprised by the lot of new content and some new features like game launching. There are a lot of people interacting and having fun socializing, playing some arcade.

Some Buzz! in Home sounds like a good idea.

It would be really awesome, to have your home avatar on your friend list, I'm sure we will see more integration between Home and the XMB in the future.

Carl14126035d ago

It brings in million in revenue for Sony, so i'd say that's a success however you look at it

baum6035d ago

Yet he talks about something he doesn't understand. Idiot.

Anyway, GametimeUK, keep crying.

Viper76035d ago (Edited 6035d ago )

Home is currently in stage of "Well its nice to check whats new once in a while" but to get to the level of "awesome community portal" it needs something really striking that make the players visit home daily to check out new things and use it.

Having more interaction with games like getting your character in to game or trophies in to home or home rewards are all good but home still lacks the thing that would make it addictive or useful.

Once the novelty wore off, I found Home to be painfully boring.

Waiting 30 seconds for another dull room to load is not my idea of fun.

I know that the standard line is always "don't complain, it's free!" but sometimes just being free isn't enough.

i even deleted it from my XMB... its still there but i would have to download again...

i think its a cool idea and im sure some ppl have found it a fun way to waste a hour here and there

Socomer 19796035d ago

For me, its amazing and more than I expected.
I like launching games and talking people into joining my game.
im always lauging when im Home.

im not easily impressed but im a gamer who started gaming with atari 2600 & Home is surprisingly useful and fun for me and alot of people like me.

Socomer 19796035d ago

Why are you Lying?
You just said you dont like it and dont use but you go ahead and say that it feels disconnected and isolated from PSN? Thats a lie.

With universal game launching and space dedicated to games you stay connected to psn all day. From any game back into home.
if you see a guy who is dressed up as heihachi chances are he has tekken and is willing to battle.

you dont know what its like to play resident evil 5, quit game into the resident evil 5 space to ask questions about the games and then go back to resident evil 5 refreshed.

your home avatar is your psn representer and he can transform into anything you wish. if a person takes a picture of his own avatar posing and uses that picture as his theme the transition from virtual world to game is seemless.

when i play demons souls i let everyone know by having the title over my avatars head and i make sure im in the XI space to launch from. Why? because if i need a clue i go back into the xi space and head upstairs to the hub and use the internet browser straight to demons souls wiki site. That to me is the coolest and it makes me feel like this is what psn is all about.

Why o why6035d ago

he'd prefer to be integrated to something that does nothing

LeonSKennedy4Life6035d ago

You guys have NO IDEA what Home will be when it finally releases, do you?

Lols.

I wish the 360's avatars luck when that day finally arrives...because none of you will see it coming. : )

Also, Buzz rocks!

So, I Finally Played Home

I recently published an article about beating my Steam backlog by getting organised and the first game I’ve completed with this new approach is Home.

I chose Home not because of its production values or reviews, but because, well, it’s short. I needed a game to start my new approach on the right foot and read that Home takes less than two hours to beat.

Whatever my reasons for finally installing Home, I found it to be an enjoyable yet flawed title.
