man it is always one thing or another with theses people picking on the console that at least has a web browser why not bash 360 for not having one at all i mean a software company console does not have it come what is up with that. and for the firmware update almost everything that gets a firmware update has problems with it at the start that is how firmware works you release some thing new and it will develop bugs happens all the time not just with the ps3. so your complaining about this but i still have 360 break on me because of the 3 red rings how come no one keeps bring this up over and over i mean come on each console has it flaws lets leave it at that or if you are going to talk about the flaws for one maybe you should bring up the other console flaws to i think it should all stop but what ever

I don't know why Sony didn't just copy Apple by making a slick, secure, stable. powerful, multasking OS based on Unix. OS X is the best OS on the market and used in Macs, Iphones and Ipod Touchs. Show some vision for the future Sony like Steve Jobs did with Apple - and we all know the huge success of Apple after he took over.

The Ps3 should have also had 2 GB of Ram instead of that fricken expensive BR player, then the Ps3 would have been cheaper, been released in 2005, would have immediately done in-game music, xgame chat, web browsing, etc with application multitasking, would have made 1080p/60 fps normal for games, as well as make thousands of open source software available(eg. firefox, opera, thunderbird, nvu, openoffice, gimp, inkscape, blender etc).

Plus a unix-based OS would easily work for the Ps4 with two or more CELLs.

I cba to read it all, so far I've heard problems with flash = problems with the browser. even with firefox or grome, the flash would be no different as this is a separate plug-in from adobe, the lack of support is something that should be taken up with adobe.
However sonys OS and programs are far from perfect, but then they are for the most part hardware people, they have tried to do alot with the PS3 and PSP software and have alot to learn. other like MS have been at the top of the game for a long time.

You would think that with all the spare time MGR seems to have, he'd actually spend it playing on his Xbox, or going out and seeing the world.

i never really had a problem with my PS3 ever a few freezes every now and then but nothing on a continual basis and i've never had a problem with a firmware update

I get a good laugh from you people. Sony's web browser is notorious for sucking, whether you have had problems yourself or not. their firmware is recalled almost every time (how many x.0x updates have we had now?)because X game crashes now because of it or whatever other glitch happens... the software is not anywhere near as it should be. should be as in working properly. and I have had smoother web browsing experiences on PC's with 256mb's of ram, and the cpu damn sure isn't lacking in ps3, so i know ps3 can do better at tasks like web browsing. i know it can run those flash applications that so many of our websites these days rely on, i know it can run faster (and they have been improving that with each update)... the fact of the matter is, and this is coming from a ps3 only gamer... had microsoft written the os software for ps3, it would have ran better. they're just better at writing applications than sony is (after all, they've been doing it for much longer). that said, when it comes to hardware, sony rules all (like we all know).

and as for the title being misleading, i apologize if there was any confusion. applications does describe it better, but yes, in the end they are all a part of the system software, and the system software itself is also buggy sometimes.

I also think it's funny that just because I dared to say the infallible and almighty sony is not perfect that i'm suddenly accused of being 15 years younger... after all, it's childish to suppose that kaz and friends can make a mistake!!!

I challenge anyone to provide video evidance of any software application on an unmodded and fully functioning PS3 crashing 10 times out of 20. The worst I have experienced myself was Tony Hawks Project 8, which probably froze 1/10 times I played it. Uncharted also had some problems after the 3.00 update but nothing like 50%.

Coupled with that crap BBC(?) tv show a few weeks back, If I were Sony I would be taking these ignorant LIARS to the cleaners.

I 100% agree with this article. Im glad its coming from a playstation site.I love the hardware,but Sony's system software is garbage. You dont know how much I hate the browser. The only reason I use it is because my sister uses the computer all the time, so im stuck with the ps3 browser. I dont remember a day without my ps3 crashing when using the browser.Some people say the browser doesnt suck and no problems, and thats because they stick to simple,small websites, but try going to many different big websites like Youtube,Myspace,Twitter,Facebo ok, etc and PS3 will crash.
Nothing is perfect is this world. Everything has pros and cons. Its alright to admit their faults.Its the opposite with the 360; I hate the hardware, but I like the software.
I dont agree when people say that the 360 fans are worse than the PS3. At least the 360 players admit their console's faults unlike the PS3 fanboys who always try to hide their faults.

Guys, lets just be honest. The PS3 has some problems.

- There are too many OS updates (compared to 360) Need a better beta testing process

- Browser, lets face it, is garbage. But its still better than no browser at all (360)

- Downloading and installing seems to take long compared to 360

dude you guy are complaining over a game console not a top of the line computer system here it was not maid for web browsing they just added that for a point over the 360 and for the firmware it happens with all software come on and the web browsing problems with things like: flashplayers and other apps that you want to run that would work on a normal computer will not work on a ps3 because they are not coded for it sony has no control over what other manufactures do that is why it took so long for the flashplayer to get on it it is the same thing for mac user i would now i am one you have to wait for certain programs to be come available it take time and does not mean that it will come along at all it was just a bonus to have a web browser

Im a PS3 fanboy, there i said and boy does it feel good to finally come out of the closet after all this time, band yeah the browser is terrible. It has crashed numerous times for me and on several occasions i've had to rebuild my harddisk whatever that is and lost all my messages and what not, so yeah it needs sorting.

Do all of these problems Sony needs to fix. Yes.

Do they do ANYTHING to enhance the gaming experience? No.

Priorities first. The games, then the features. I can deal with firmware 1.0 with no features as long as I can play Uncharted 2, Demon's souls and other great exclusives without issues.

Call me old fashioned but I use a computer for browsing. Ya, the PS3 isn't my go to option but it's free. And I'm with above posters. Worry about games and gaming first, the browser should be down on the ol' priority list.

They need to worry about everything, especially with the XBOX snapping at their feet, you just cant afford to ignore anyone in this cut throat industry.

If you think about it, its good that there is a XBOX because the competition as driven SONY to try harder, if XBOX just one day went away we would actually lose out.

We need Firefox web browser and their exelent E-mail cliant software for PS3, If they sorce out there soft ware to theses companies the quality may be better?

sorry, but i agree to some extent. i know that Frosty is pro Sony in a big way so there is no way he's just knocking the PS3 for the sake of it. yes the PS3 cannot browse as well as a PC with 4GB of memory, but i think there could be improvements in this department.

I've had a few browser problems in the past but I have to say, the web browsing experience I've had with my PS3 (a console I am truly in love with btw) pales in comparison to web browsing on a PC to such an extent where I just don't use the PS3 browser anymore.

As for the Firmware, only problem I've personally had with any FW update is 3.0 freezing Uncharted: Drake's Fortune on me, have never had a problem with FW updates otherwise.

Would love to see Sony add more features and functionality through FW updates on the PSP, would love to be able to create a playlist on the fly....hell even my Sony Walkman can't even do that which is the 1 feature missing from it to make it truly great.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.
