Looking back at Valkyria Chronicles

N-philes: Ever since the game came out last year, it was one of the few Playstation 3 games that caught my attention at a time I did not own the console. It was beautiful, artistic, and the gameplay reminded me of Advance Wars for GBA and DS. When I eventually did get my PS3, that game was gone from my memories, that is until Valkyria Chronicles anime came out. As I watched more and more the episodes, it made me want to play the game once again. So I decided to snoop around shops and see if copies were still available. No such luck except that one shop that sold the game used for 50 Euros. No way am I going to pay that much for a used game that came out more then 8 month ago. I did eventually stumble on a new copy on Amazon for 30 Euros. I took the jump and I made the correct choice! What a blast this game is!

Yeah. VC is a masterpiece. It is easily one of my best 5 games this gen so far.

@raz
Easily indeed.

I loved this game it was awesome. Everything about it I liked. It truly was a beautiful game and a masterpiece of sorts. I don't care for portable gaming that much, but this game was so awesome, that I'll definitely be borrowing a friend's PSP just to play VC2. I'd would absolutely go crazy for a sequel on the PS3. This is quite possibly my second favorite game this gen. Just behind Uncharted.

Its 1 of the most refreshing games I've played on the PS3. Yeah, you have guns & shoot in VC too, but the execution is so much different. If you want a break from all the muscle bound shooters and loud booms this is the perfect game for you. It's very tactical and all in all a difficult but not frustrating experience. Once you learn the Ins & Outs youll realize the only thing missing is sometype of multiplayer battle mode. Pick up VC, rent it at least, you won't be dissapointed.

Forget renting it, buy it definitely. Anybody that's a fan of JRPG or strategy games will love this game. I did, also, love everything about this game. From the style to the execution and gameplay to the story. Just amazing. But I do have to agree with you on that one point: Multiplayer/Battle mode. Now I'm not a big multiplayer gamer at all, but the gameplay here is so perfectly written for multiplayer that it would've "wrote itself" so to speak. That could've definitely been fun.

Dammit, I think I'm going to have to go play this again, and maybe finally pick up the Selvaria DLC while I'm at it.

Sega is great for relegating its characters to cameos in other games. Heaven forbid they announced Valkyria Chronicles 5 or remaster VC 2 & 3.
