TF2 is beautiful. Episode 2 looks fantastic, and L4D's art style was supposed to be dark and gritty. On a technical level, L4D is right up there with all the graphic power houses. L4D looks a hell of a lot better than games like COD4 and WAW.

Not to mention the Source engine still has one of (if not) the most realistic physics system in a game.

So if can keep up with new engines why do alot of their games look so dated, vs games made with newer engines, it's an old engine that is well past it's prime, the games will look okay but thats it. I doubt it could keep up with u3 engine, let alone ubisofts, capcom or konami's engines, considering its age. It very mod friendly and it's well known, thats all it's got going for it.

And you think sony made the ps3 intentional hard to code, just so devs would abandon developing on the 360, to learn to code for the ps3. When the ps2 was released it also was difficult to code for, its amazing that it's successor is designed on a similar philosophy and you wonder why you get smart ass replys, with statements like that.

And yet countless other devs have been able to get the complicated hardware to work just fine, and 1st party devs have stole the show with some of their games.

Let me correct your last part, gabe refuses to adapt to a new way of coding due to complacency, and is happy to continue to use a method of programming that will eventually be replaced with newer and better methods.

Um, have you seen their games on PC, dude? The HDR effects in Half-Life 2, a game made in 2004, rival anything done using the Unreal Engine 3. Don't look to the console ports. Look at the PC. Also, engines like UE3 and the Scimitar/Anvil Engine and the RAGE engine by Rockstar still don't match up to what the Source engine can do. Unreal Engine 3 still using static lighting effects, so I don't know what you're talking about.
