PlayStation Network Gets 'Connect'ed

PlayStation LifeStyle writes:

"PlayStation Network users have been longing a more connected experience. Is Sony finally bringing us that ability to 'Connect'? A certain website, owned by SCEA suggests just that…"

"When I first heard PSN-Connect, I thought instantly of Sony's now defunct music-download service. However this could be anything from a music service, to a social networking service for the PlayStation Network. Or it could be merely a way to access your PSN account via the web, and message friends, etc."

Sony is definitely working on something here.

Maddens Raiders6199d ago (Edited 6199d ago )

Sony's always working on "something..."

Can't wait to see what this turns out to be.

sack_boi6199d ago

This is what happens when you make you voice heard. Keep saying PSN > XLIVE and things like this wont happen.

ps3gamerkyle6199d ago

Hopefully this will come into fruition and initiate a new service.

Traveler6199d ago

@ Sack Boi

That might be true, but I'm not going to lie about it just to pressure Sony to improve the PSN. When I take the balance of features I really care about, along with cost, I do feel that PSN is the better service.

The other thing to consider is that many of us own both consoles and don't like paying for LIVE. If we say LIVE is better than PSN, isn't Microsoft going to think "oh, we're so much better than PSN, everybody thinks it is worth paying $50 a year for". It works both ways. I hope Microsoft get the message that PSN is providing mostly the same experience and is totally free, which hopefully will get them to stop charging us to play games online.

When 360 fanboys say LIVE is better than PSN, are you saying that it means that they don't want LIVE to improve? That's silly. A person can say that one service is better than another and still want it to improve.

SevWolf6199d ago

@ Sev: good article keep it up
@ sackboi: GTFO, was that really necessary, I really doubt Sev meant to start a flame war like you are doing, apparently if someone says one side is working to improve he means its better and the other sucks..lol, also do us all a favor and change your username, you're a disgrace to the name, Sackboy is an amazing character, while you are just....ugh

FamilyGuy6199d ago (Edited 6199d ago )

I really don't see (well actually i do, profit) why microsoft does not have a lower featured silver membership that allows it's member to play online but without all the bells and whistles. A big argument that most 360 owner avoid is that if M$ DID offer such a silver membership how many would still pay? How many would still argue that "Live is worth it"? I don't think $50 is all that much at all but the fact of the matter is still "why charge at all?"

PSN>Live
at least until M$ makes a competing free online service that is better than PSN

On Topic
I like how sony is always moving forward and improving things. I'm content with their current functionalities already and have very few things id still like
In-game personal music
Improve the web browser
more things associated with PS3Eye
...
Yup that's it for me, anything else would really be things i didn't know i needed.

meepmoopmeep6199d ago

it's cool to have more features (and hopefully free)

but i don't need all that extra stuff.
i don't need voice chat, text chat or whatever.

that's what my computer is for.

when i turn on my PS3 i play a game, search the PS Store or watch a movie.

a_squirrel6199d ago

Grrr... I hate cliffhangers...

Blogz4Fanboys6198d ago

lol leave it out.

the psn is a good service without doubt, but it doesn't compete with live on many levels. and before all you lot start shouting "dedicated servers>peer2peer", both LIVE and the PSN have dedicated server games and games that run peer2peer.

as i said above psn is good, but live is better....and well worth the money.

i have both by the way people, and enjoy both very much. and i could no way be without either.

Biggunz6199d ago

Sony needs to work on private chat....thats all I want.

Godmars2906199d ago

Well, all I want is MKV video support.

DJ6199d ago

Revitalizing the Connect service may be the way to do it.

Scott_Steinberg6199d ago

I am not a Gamesblow fan but he did say this back in early 2008,
maybe its a coincidence. Good find playstationlifestyle.net. link

ZombieNinjaPanda6199d ago

I think Gamesblow is very hit and miss.

I remember him saying something about Helghast Jungles, and how beautiful it was...yeah...so much for those jungles.

Sev6199d ago (Edited 6199d ago )

Yuck, I would hate for it to seem like I am validating anything Gamesblow said.

This domain was only registered in April of 2009. That post was from May 2008. If Sony was planning it that long ago, they'd already have registered the domain.

Gamesblow isn't hit or miss. He works for GameStop.

cellypower6199d ago

Yea Gamesblow is a fraud, he prolly got lucky on this.

PirateThom6199d ago

A broken clock is right twice a day.

Sev6199d ago

@ PirateThom,

Good Stuff!

uie4rhig6199d ago

but i really hope he is correct on this. he might have been lucky, but i hope that he is right, they've announced what gamesblow said in that topic ages ago ( http://www.youtube.com/watc... ) and have been waiting for this since i saw it.. but i donno, it could be anything !

ZombieNinjaPanda6199d ago

Okay I should rephrase what I mean by hit and miss.

He makes up crap and then hopes that it's true.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle66d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde72d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

Soy73d ago

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.

PlayStation legend Shuhei Yoshida says Jim Ryan fired him because he didn't listen to him

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.

Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga74d ago

It should be free highway for him now.. but Sony are too stupid to see this, especially that moron Hulst

S2Killinit74d ago (Edited 74d ago )

Wtf why all that anger. PlayStation is dominating on every level. Besides I think there is a little more to hiring a CEO than just who is available. Its not like its a athlete your team wants to buy.

neutralgamer199273d ago

S2Killinit

live service failures, chasing trends, closing studios. yes dominating

Cacabunga73d ago

Sony is Dominating because competition is not existing. Compared to previous gens this is the poorest in terms of software offerings.

Last gen we got Uncharted 4 Lost Legacy and TLOU2 from ND alone.

This is so far a remasters gen, with no competition to lift up the quality

1nsomniac73d ago (Edited 73d ago )

..."PlayStation is dominating on every level"....

...Really???

PlayStation are soon heading into a new generation in the not to distant future. They currently have the worst customer satisfaction they've ever sustained as a company. The company is heading for a huge crash while at the same time they'll need to be planning how they are going to try and win back that favour and the build up to their new releases.

Yes financially they're winning but they're going to have to ride out this complete public corporate disaster. No one has faith in the company or the product anymore. They've damaged their public image so much this generation. Greed can kill anyone.

medman73d ago

Hulst is a disaster......

blacktiger73d ago

He would've done the same thing and fire Jim Ryan and Shuhei would be the villain. Why?
Because Elite creates the narrative and distraction for gamers, users and citizens.

Outside_ofthe_Box74d ago

More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.

robtion73d ago

Yep. Yoshida was responsible for bringing one of the best games of this generation to playstation (Stellar Blade). He is an actual gamer and is in touch with what gamers want (creative, fun games, not GaaS and agenda pushing). He also seems like a genuinely nice guy if you watch some interviews. Of course they got rid of him.

darthv7274d ago

Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.

Agent7574d ago

Microflop. After Windows XP and Xbox 360, it all went floppy.

S2Killinit73d ago

Floppy 😆
No pun intended

badz14974d ago

Yoshida for President! Jim Ryan was and always be a hack! Sony should get Shu back

Lightning7774d ago

All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
