IGN Grudge match: Prototype vs. Infamous

IGN writes: "It isn't often that two completely new videogame superheroes are introduced at the same time through very similar games. Add the fact that one of these games is a PS3 exclusive and you have the perfect conditions for an argument over which game is better. We've asked our expert editors from the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 channels which game they prefer and you get to watch the ensuing fireworks."

i think they r both amazing but imo infamous's story is better

Cthulhu6091d ago

infamous is the better game, but then again both are pretty much B titles so that doesn't say much.

cmrbe6090d ago

Too bad then that Infamous a B grade game in your opinion scored better than any full release exclusive game on the x360 this year sofar.

I can see now why you guys are angry. Playing C grade exclusives for half of this year sofar.

Lifendz6090d ago

infamous is amazing. Prototype is so-so.

Forest Gumps6090d ago

I have Infamous on the PS3 (of course) and Prototype on the 360. I have to say both are great games. I do like the nature of Prototype better though.

Just Gumps opinion.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi6090d ago

I was almost fooled by that...

Anyway, isn't it pretty much established at this point that the majority opinion is in inFamous's favor?

SaberEdge6090d ago

They are both really good games. I was just playing Infamous today and it was a fun time. Prototype has its strengths as well. Try them both out if you can and see which one you like better. Or if you have the money and time, get both.

arika6090d ago

lets make it simple infamous is a great game and prototype is just an average game. gamers who have a ps3 are lucky because we get to enjoy both games.

ThanatosDMC6090d ago

Yahtzee hates inFamous with a passion! Go watch the vid.

zoneofenders6090d ago

my personal opinion
prototype 7.0
Infamous 8.5

Syronicus6090d ago

So with that in mind:

Metacritic Reviews

Prototype = 78
inFAMOUS = 85

So by a decent margin, enough worth noting anyway, inFAMOUS wins but both are worthy of being played. At best I would say Prototype is a rental and inFAMOUS is a purchase.

himdeel6090d ago

...I have to say I'm enjoying the evil missions just as much, if not more so than the good missions. Even while I cannot weigh in on the two games in a comparison I do hope to rent a copy of Prototype soon.

However on a side note for those of you who enjoy inFamous and want to keep your second play through extra fresh. Do what I've done.

I've only done maybe one or two neutral side missions on each island but complete all of the evil side/good missions and main story missions. This way you can complete the game with full powers and have all of the side missions left after I beat the game.

Forrest Gump6091d ago

inFamous is better,IGNs reviews of both games proves this doesn't it?

DMason836090d ago (Edited 6090d ago )

Yes Gump, because IGN's word is final and the word of God. All hail IGN. /sarcasm

Sibs6090d ago

It's IGN's match of two games it has already reviewed... of course the higher rated game would come on top, it's only logical. If it didn't things would be... confusing to say the least.

Boody-Bandit6090d ago (Edited 6090d ago )

This article is from IGN where inFamous scored a 9.2 and Prototype a 7.5. Maybe in short that is what Gump was pointing out.

@Sibs
Agreed. It's kind of a pointless article from IGN considering the discrepancy in scores from their own site.

PSP26091d ago

i have both on playstation3 so i win only people that cant play infamous lose

MicroSony6090d ago

yep,

in this gen, you have to get the three console if you want to taste everything.

SaberEdge6090d ago

Agreed. Owning all consoles is the best way to go. You miss out on too many good games otherwise.

Cenobia6090d ago

This seems like the wrong place to post that comment, seeing as you can get both on one.

Not trying to be a douche or anything, I'm just saying.

Also, I'm getting really tired of hearing "owning all three = win", etc. I get it, your the Sweden of gaming.

GarandShooter6090d ago

'Also, I'm getting really tired of hearing "owning all three = win", etc. I get it, your the Sweden of gaming.'

ehh, don't you mean Switzerland?

Infamous is the better of the two. Luckily, us Ps3 owners get a taste of both awesome games!

bpac1234567896090d ago

I vote infamous. Prototype is too much like hulk ultimate destruction (ya I said it).

Megaton6090d ago

It basically IS Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, minus the Hulk, plus some gore/powers. If I remember correctly, during an interview at GameTrailers they said Prototype actually runs on an upgraded version of the Hulk:UD engine.

That's not a bad thing though, as far as I'm concerned. I still own Hulk:UD for PS2, and had a lot of fun with it. It's really great for mindless destruction.

Ranking The Coldest, Most Ruthless Protagonists In Gaming

Not all video game protagonists are sweet, jolly, or wholesome. Folks like Agent 47 are cold, ruthless, and reserved and it shows.

cloganart584d ago

I'd like to believe Joel's situation is more about turning into a calloused survivor in a cold-hard world who may have made selfish decisions. Not inherently ruthless.

Armyofdarkness585d ago

Ah, fond memories of strangling all the people in their hotel rooms in Hitman 1

bunt-custardly585d ago

Lara Croft, Nathan Drake etc, cos they pretend to be the good guys but are mass murderers that show no remorse.

Atleast release a remaster trilogy or something to gage interest. I'd buy it. With that said I'm pretty over superheroes at this point. Infamous is still dope as fk though so it'd be a buy

isarai607d ago

Omfg i would go apesh!t for that 😩

jznrpg607d ago

I agree but games take 4-6 years to make so who knows when they would do it? After Ghost of Tsushima2? They could have something else in the world as well in early production who knows.

mkis007607d ago

It's a shame Sucker Punch finally figured out a good open world formula only while making Ghost of Tsushima. Infamous 1 and 2 were great for their time, but Second son felt too much like a checklist in It's design. I love the hell out of all 3 games (2 and 3 are just so damn good, while 1 shows it's age and the ps3 struggles), but I would love to see how they would do another infamous with all they have learned. Wouldn't hurt to release a remastered collection either.

Demetrius607d ago (Edited 607d ago )

This series, days gone, will continue to get ignored by sony, luckily we still have the horizon series, sly cooper not getting pushed anymore, speaking of that I'm bout to get on my ps2 and play some sly 2 anyways lol, but seriously I never woulda thought back then sony would ever cold shoulder most of their franchises I'm actually surprised they're still letting ratchet&clank be around
