IGN: Alan Wake Preview

The version of Alan Wake that IGN managed to get its hands on at Microsoft's press event late last night was essentially a modified version of the demo shown at the company's Monday press conference -- which means that IGN had already seen the environments and situations presented. The good news, however, is that the demo is just a precursor to a longer demonstration that Remedy will start showing behind closed doors today once the Electronic Entertainment Expo officially starts.

This game reminds me too much of Alone in the Dark!
The city settings, the light sensitive enemies that "vaporize" when hit, the main character narrating his own story, the supernatural at work, etc...

I just hope the gameplay takes it to a high standard! The graphics didnt look that good, not that matters much since the emmersion in the narrative seems very well acted and presented!

SaberEdge6219d ago

You're absolutely blind if you thought Alan Wake's graphics didn't look good. Those are some of the best graphics I have ever seen.

SaberEdge6219d ago

What's your point? Yes, Resident Evil 5 is also one of the best looking games on consoles. But that doesn't stop Alan Wake from being absolutely amazing graphically.

ShabzS6219d ago (Edited 6219d ago )

... graphically the game looks outstanding .. the shadow and light work is done perfectly... especially that flare sequence from the demo ... it was amazing .. how ever the animation is pretty rigid at times...

SaberEdge6219d ago (Edited 6219d ago )

How can anyone deny that this game is one of the best-looking games on consoles?

http://media.xbox360.ign.co...

In terms of detail, in terms of lighting and in terms of post-processing effects Alan Wake is easily among the very best graphics we have seen on consoles this generation.

Here are a couple screen shots from other graphically advanced games for comparison:
Killzone 2: http://ps3.ign.com/dor/obje...

Uncharted: http://ps3.ign.com/dor/obje...

Gears of War 2: http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/...

Assassin's Creed: http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/...

I'm so happy I bought my 360 instead of a playstation3 All I ever read is a bunch of butt-hurt sony fanboys crying I'd hate to be associated with the douche bag sony gestapo oh yeah almost forgot Drakes fortune looks great but Alan Wake rapes Drake, on the front porch in broad daylight and everyone can see it look a sony fan boy at MS keynote http://www.youtube.com/watc...

mastiffchild6219d ago

Whereas people should be clamouring to be associated with you-someone who likes using the word "rapes" about two games while calling people "douches" for having a different opinion. Very, very classy mate.

soljah6219d ago

a game that pushes the xbox to the next level. does it have online multi player. where's the co op. is there vs mode.

But that's what you have to expect from a outdated toaster like the Flopbox 360

Montreafart6219d ago

Alan wake is now official vaporware and its a failure by default.

Bots its time to wake up like Alan, you have been living in fantasy land but the truth comes out always. Alan wake is a poor design and rip off of Alone in the dark and its heavily outdated.

So that was the game the bots called "king of all graphics". I think it barely beats Spiderman 2 on the Wii...barely.

green6219d ago

I did not know that Uncharted 2 was an open world game?

jaseo6219d ago (Edited 6219d ago )

and have released many more albums than Alan Wake! Uncharted 2 sounds like an 80s various artists compilation?

edit: ok, just saw an ad on TV. http://uncharted.com.au the music sounds ok.

really duh 26219d ago

The graphics look like CGI now this is the power of the 360 droids.

Alan Wake is going to leave the Ps3 in last place in the graphics department Ps3 is already last place in everything else.

ZuperAmazingCooKie6219d ago

Alan Wake doesn't even look better than Uncharted which came out in 2007. Character models and animation looks weak. Only its lighting saves it from total mediocrity.

As far as gameplay goes, I thought it was gonna shine but... it's basically luigi's mantion meets resident evil. lol

resistance1006219d ago

i'm still disapointed in Alan Wake, it looks like a less tense Siren. Considering this is one of the games i brought a 360 for i'm not happy at present

locos856219d ago

True. Even though the game looks great graphically. I wasn't all the impressed in the game itself.

raztad6219d ago

Game is a third person shooter in very dark environments. It reminds me Silent Hill: The Room. Siren is a horror game. I'm yet to be impressed by those visuals, I saw gamersyde HQ videos. Looks good but nothing out of the ordinary. LP2 looks better by far. I know AW is an open world game, but being so dark popins can be easily avoided.

BTW, why the flare light looks like a LASER? LOL that is funny.

A Late Look: Alan Wake

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "All in all, it’s not hard to see why Alan Wake has received a bit of a cult following (there’s that famous foreshadowing again). It’s a title that blends themes and gameplay, while pushing the limits of storytelling by putting stories within stories and letting you read those stories before you get to that part in… the story. It has flaws, to be sure - the gameplay side can’t quite keep up with the rest of its ambitions - but overall it’s a great game that stands out among its peers and is undeniably… one for the books."

Kind of a goody story...

On a serious note, that is why I try activating gift cards asap. It's happened to me where the store didnt scan it right where the card was unusuable. Happened at Wally World.

gigoran8787d ago

wait, that place is real? national lampoon wasn't kidding?

jznrpg199d ago

People sometimes call Wal-Mart Wally World including myself

Tacoboto786d ago

I just bought two of the MonsterVerse Godzilla movies on 4K - both had digital copies expiring in 2023. Both were actually expired.

I'd be surprised but it's WB, of course they'd actually expire them

Knightofelemia787d ago

Usually most of those redemption card have an expiry date on them. If they expired all buyer did was buy recycled paper. And some of those codes are country locked to certain countries. I buy a card from the States I can't use it in Canada.

Chocoburger787d ago

Dumb and silly story. She wasted her money for no reason.

Is it really that hard to go to Steam or GOG. She spent $240, when its currently 70% off on GOG, and only costs $4.49.

Gee, I wonder, should I spend $240 on eBay, or $4.49 on GOG? 🙄

Rynxie787d ago

Most likely she wanted to resell a few or most of them. However, it was a too good to be true situation.

787d ago
Profchaos787d ago

So in short she paid $240.00 assuming usd for a bunch on unactivated game codes.

I still don't understand why I guess cause there's not a physical version and she wanted something for a collection or art project.

Rynxie787d ago

No, most likely to resell. However, she ended up getting screwed.

Asplundh787d ago

This is Alan Wake 1, it had physical copies.
