Sony to host PS3 master training class

Rob Crossley reports -

Alan Wake, Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell devs will offer expert development insight

SCEE has announced that it will be hosting a unique PS3 training session during the upcoming two-day Paris Master Class event.

The event, which opens from June 25-26 in the French capital, offers intensive training sessions for visiting developers, with each class being taught by industry experts behind some of the biggest games in recent times.

The Sony Advanced Programming Code Wizard Master Class Event?

Spike476195d ago

Then comes along some fat dude from Valve telling me that it is hard. Hmmm, who should I listen to?

Gue16195d ago

Insomniac and Sucker Punch are like very close to Sony? They probably benefit from this very close relation in some way, don't you think?

Valve is not as close to Sony as to they are to Microsoft.

Soldierone6195d ago (Edited 6195d ago )

@Wiimaniac He said it because these are Ubsifoft guys, the "makers of Assassins Creed and Splinter Cell" not first party developers...Valve is a supposed "third party" yet they complain that doing their job as console makers is "too hard" thats all lol. Sure they are closer to MS noting that alot of the guy behind Valve worked for Microsoft to begin with lol, thats as close as you get. Just dont call yourselves third party devs IMO.

RememberThe3576195d ago

That is a good point. But it still falls on Valve to reach out for help. If Valve really wanted to know how the develop for the PS3 there are a number of ways they could do that. We all know insomniac is very open the helping other development teams understand the PS3. Sony themselves have reached out to developers to help them develop for the PS3. If Valve wanted to develop for the PS3 all they'd need to do is ask, but they are too proud to admit that they don't know how.

But yes, I agree. Having such a close relationship with Sony has to have benefited both Insomniac and Sucker Punch.

ultimolu6195d ago

I so agree with that, lol.
'Teh PS3 ish too hard to program fooooooor...oh noeeeees. :['

SpoonyRedMage6195d ago

Valve don't like making console games at all. They're a PC dev but they saw that they could easily port the games to the 360 and get more profit. They still do give some support that the PC guys get but it's later.

SolidAhmed6195d ago

hopefully we can see some results in the upcoming year

Chubear6195d ago

I don't know what you mean by "benefit from close relationship" in regards to Sucker Punch cause they are part of Sony's gaming studios. Sony owns them.

Insomniac aren't part of Sony studios so the comment would ring true with them but 2nd party studios dont' have the level of grip on PS3 hardware as Sony's in-house studios do.

TheBand1t6195d ago

Sucker Punch would be 2nd party, same as Insomniac.

RememberThe3576195d ago

Sucker Punch isn't owned by Sony. They're 2nd-part just like Insomniac. And when I say "benefit from close relationship", I mean that they communicate with Sony's first-parties more then other developers would. This allows them more insight from teams like Naughty Dog's ICE Team.

We know for a fact the the studios in Santa Monica(Naughty Dog, Insomniac, and Santa Monica Studio, etc.) go out to lunch frequently to share development techniques.

ChampIDC6195d ago (Edited 6195d ago )

Valve is and always has been a PC developer. It's almost effortless to port from PC to 360. That's probably the only reason they're on consoles at all. Their products sell well enough on PC alone.

If Gabe knew how to talk to the media, that's the kind of stuff he would say, but he's utterly clueless and makes himself look like a fool.

GiantEnemyCrab6195d ago

Well you listen to fat jerkwads going off about "durrrr this can only be done on the PS3 durr".

It's the same thing to me. Except you take one as gospel and the other you scoff at.

Weird why would Alan Wake devs be hosting classes...
Wasn't Alan Wake first a PS3 game...
Anyway, nice initiative from Sony =D Wish i could attend...

PirateThom6195d ago

The Alan Wake devs aren't doing a PS3 class. It's a lot of different developers, SCEE have just signed up for it.

RememberThe3576195d ago

"While Alan Wake, Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell devs will offer expert development insight

"SCEE has announced that it will be hosting a unique PS3 training session during the upcoming two-day Paris Master Class event."

So it's basically saying that while the developers of said games are speaking about they're development, SCEE will also be speaking about how to better use the PS3.

DeforMAKulizer6195d ago

Oops my bad!!! Thanks guys! Bubble + for making me understand!

Godmars2906195d ago (Edited 6195d ago )

If Sony used this "seminar" as an excuse to brainwash 3rd party 360-devs into "Joining the Darkside" and make PS3 games.

They could even lace cookies with LSD...

AssassinHD6195d ago

Read the article. SCEE is doing the PS3 class.

Shadow Man6195d ago

in few months ps3 owners will be able to play L4D.

AssassinHD6195d ago

You mean PS3 owners who do not have a decent PC, right?

You bought an Xbox6195d ago

You Bought an Xbox

Ha Ha

We dont need L4D
We got Killzone 2

TheBand1t6195d ago

No...I just don't think most PS3 owners care about L4D anymore. There's too many good games coming out on both platforms to care about a 8 month old game.

Besides, I played L4D back in 2007. It's called "Zombie Horde" on Counter-Strike: Source.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle14d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde20d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

Soy21d ago

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.

PlayStation legend Shuhei Yoshida says Jim Ryan fired him because he didn't listen to him

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.

Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga22d ago

It should be free highway for him now.. but Sony are too stupid to see this, especially that moron Hulst

S2Killinit22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

Wtf why all that anger. PlayStation is dominating on every level. Besides I think there is a little more to hiring a CEO than just who is available. Its not like its a athlete your team wants to buy.

neutralgamer199221d ago

S2Killinit

live service failures, chasing trends, closing studios. yes dominating

Cacabunga21d ago

Sony is Dominating because competition is not existing. Compared to previous gens this is the poorest in terms of software offerings.

Last gen we got Uncharted 4 Lost Legacy and TLOU2 from ND alone.

This is so far a remasters gen, with no competition to lift up the quality

1nsomniac21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

..."PlayStation is dominating on every level"....

...Really???

PlayStation are soon heading into a new generation in the not to distant future. They currently have the worst customer satisfaction they've ever sustained as a company. The company is heading for a huge crash while at the same time they'll need to be planning how they are going to try and win back that favour and the build up to their new releases.

Yes financially they're winning but they're going to have to ride out this complete public corporate disaster. No one has faith in the company or the product anymore. They've damaged their public image so much this generation. Greed can kill anyone.

medman21d ago

Hulst is a disaster......

blacktiger21d ago

He would've done the same thing and fire Jim Ryan and Shuhei would be the villain. Why?
Because Elite creates the narrative and distraction for gamers, users and citizens.

Outside_ofthe_Box22d ago

More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.

robtion21d ago

Yep. Yoshida was responsible for bringing one of the best games of this generation to playstation (Stellar Blade). He is an actual gamer and is in touch with what gamers want (creative, fun games, not GaaS and agenda pushing). He also seems like a genuinely nice guy if you watch some interviews. Of course they got rid of him.

darthv7222d ago

Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.

Agent7522d ago

Microflop. After Windows XP and Xbox 360, it all went floppy.

S2Killinit22d ago

Floppy 😆
No pun intended

badz14922d ago

Yoshida for President! Jim Ryan was and always be a hack! Sony should get Shu back

Lightning7722d ago

All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
