I remember Julian Eggebrecht, the CEO for Factor 5, saying that he saw this game's development process go wrong. I don't know why he didn't avoid it, and I also don't know why did Sony force them to use SIXAXIS in the first place.

Topshelfcheese6263d ago

Sony didn't force them to not have an Analog option. They made a dumb design call and paid for it, just ask Free Radical about it ;)

Poor sales of Lair and huge development cost lead to this studio's closure.

It's a pity if you look at the strong work they did for Nintendo Platforms in the past.

Lair was full of design decisions under the pressure of Sony trying to market the Playstation 3. They switched from 720p to 1080p at a cost of terrible framerate drops and supported the Sixaxis tilt which, according to most fans, only added complexity to the controls.

This is one of these cases where one game could make or break a company, an in case of Factor 5, it was the latest. I'm sure the devs will find better homes in other developing houses.

Yea that scared me for a min.

Its the same company, though. That's just legal talk to make sure Factor 5 as an entity will survive, while they can close down the US side of the business (and get rid of the dept).

They moved the company from Germany to California. Looks like they kept the German office open as a backup. Now, they might move most of the IP back, and send Factor5 US into bankruptcy.

Anyway, I think its a good thing a company with such a history can survive in some way and hopefully the can recover and restart.

@ Cookie

Dude all you've been doing today is running your mouth. You have no clue what your talking about. Lair was an awesome game, it just suffered from sales because the ps3 user base was almost non existent and also the sixth axis control scheme pushed alot of people away. The game itself is a masterpiece. I dont know who in their right mind would consider themselves a hardcore gamer and not enjoy Lair? Posers maybe?

Lair doesn't have an "easy" setting in that you can push through and finish the game or have a sticky reticule; you have to learn the controls.

One thing I do agree with is that Factor 5 could have given the game better instructions than what they had because the game is very open and you can do lots of different things.

Once you get over learning the controls (takes about a day or two with guidance/instructions)...

...the game opens up and becomes one of the best and innovative games you've played.

The problem is that this game was made by people much more open-minded and intelligent than the reviewers judging them.
