Developers and Publishers who take their eye (focus) off the PS3 will find themselves at a loss.

Devolpers said the same things when they switched from 2d to 3d.
They wine and complain when it`s different then what was before, then they figure it out and love it.

It's about time we start talking about the games and quit already with the trying to find a reason to bash it because you all know deep down inside that everything about the PS3 just seems half azzed! There is a game every month starting in may for the rest of the year on 360 that look very very solid! There also seems to be this misconception of the PS3 being better than 360 graphically 2 years down the road which i'm sorry but isn't going to happen! If I were a Sony fan I would be wondering when a game was coming out that at least looks better than Gears because the PS3 still has nothing even close! In 3 years we will all witness just how bad 360 makes PS3 games look thanks to it's DX10 features and everything else that makes 360 just better! I don't see how you guys are not pissed at the fact that your losing exclusives and many developers have been and will continue to come over to MS! If you want a great gaming system I would suggest trading in your PS3 for an Elite while it's still worth something!

For us it's not a question of being easily to develop for, that's a relative term. When we first got our hands on the hardware it took us a while to get back into the flow of working with Sony, because they way they do things is a little different. The developers that say it's too hard to develop for and complain about it are missing the point. It sounds like an excuse to the consumer to us.

Yes the PS3 is harder to develop for then the 360. Sony and developers have already stated this so this is not news. However the PS3 is also easier to develop for then the PS2 was and Sony has made real efforts at providing developers with better tools and resources this time around. Also this time around Sony is allowing for developers to create smaller games like Flow that can be sold over the PSN. Thus providing an alternative way to learn to program and design games to take advantage of the PS3 without having to spend 20+ million dollars. The financial cost of developing a big title for either the 360 or the PS3 is a huge barrier to small developement companies regardless how easy or difficult the system is to develop for.

So all things considered I think Sony has done a good job of providing developers different entry levels to creating games for the PS3, with much better support then the PS2. Of course no one wants to here that, instead its just so much easier to put up more negative crap about Sony and enjoy the hits to your site.

If the PS3#s platform is too complicated to develop - not only will this discourage developers, but also the fact that the easier-to-develop 360 has such a mass market out there.

It'd be common sense to develop for the 360 or atleast have it as priority.

and plus they didnt say that every second party game developers in tawian was complaining about the PS3 saying it was to hard when all of you XBox 360 fans get excited for nothing and further more XBox 360 only sold 4.5 million in the u.s if you dont count worlwide which is 10.4 million so technically PS3 can still be able to catche up and of course theres alot of exclusive games for PS3.

All the PS3 launch means in Europe is that Sony was able to get more PS3's to their fanboys at launch. I cant believe MS has upset the web like they threw a rock on a pile of sh*t, Buzz off dam!.

while in the short run, it might be a little costly to learn a new platform, but if they want to, once they get a hold of things, games will come easier, cheaper, and better.

and yes, sony has been pumping out better developer tools which hopefully will mean better looking games in the near future.

the ps2 was complicated to program for, but once developers learned how to use it, it had games that eclipsed most xbox games and even some 360 games.

The PS3 is so hard to develope for that a tiny little team can make a game like LBP with the best physics and most photorealistic graphics seen to date.

Everything comes down to money. People have to be paid.

Some development teams just don't have the financial backing to support the PS3 right now.(Sony did not make it any easier either), They have the worst tools. Sony never been known to be an excellent communicator, when it comes to listening to developers issues.(I'm sure first, and exclusive parties get well taken care of).

While it takes like 15 mil for a solid game..imagine the small developers out there that never even see that in profit. They are always in the hole. Now the PS3 cost too much, which will slowdown the installment base sales. Also with poor communication/developer tool issues, it's a big gamble for small firms.

-Remember what happened when Square , Capcom, Konami, and alot of developers left Nintendo because of the PSone platform being easier to produce for.(A lot of that was on Nintendo for staying with Cartridges), but still Cds sold like hotcakes..

Small developers just can't take 2 years off and wait..while EA can.

for the PS3 for months and don't find it hard at all. When it comes to challenges in programming, we just skip it. It was hard enough doing it the first time. Hell, people hardly notice the differences anyway.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.
