PS3 Blu-Ray Disc Read Error Fix - Disc Read Error Repair Guide

D.Vader at PlayStation LifeStyle Writes, "If you are having disc read errors this guide may be of assistance. If your discs seem to be loading fine (mechanically) but do not read it's likely your laser is bad."

such a small problem that only affects less than 1% of playstation 3 users

TheBand1t6266d ago

Doesn't change the fact that it does, indeed, happen.

This is just a guide for those who are actually afflicted by it.

kaelix6266d ago

1% is still better than the other guys

Kushan6266d ago

1% at the moment, but there's definitely been a lot more people talking about it lately. Probably just media hype as these things tend to be (It's about on par with the 360's E74 fiasco), but it seems as though that most people affected by this are affected over a year after they buy their PS3, so it could be a long-term thing. It's possible (although unlikely) that a few months down the line, we might see a LOT more reports of this failure from launch consoles and such, due to the nature of it all (essentially, wear and tear on the laser).

I don't think that's going to happen, though, I may have a slight preference towards the 360 on a personal level, but I'm a firm believer that Sony makes good, high-quality products. My sound system is from Sony and I love it. I'm planning on buying a Sony TV in the next few months because I'm genuinely impressed by them, so suffice to say - I don't think this is as big an issue as some people will make it out to be, but in this crazy world, you really never know.

If RROD = 33% though, I wonder how much = RROD (3 times to me) + E74 + Scratched discs (two times to me) + Fatal HDD Failure (it has happened to me 2 times) + Who knows what else...

mpmaley6266d ago

E74 is essentially a different code for RRoD, thus why MSFT has given E74 the 3 year treatment. Bad lasers are nowhere near as bad as RRoD is.

XLiveGamer6266d ago (Edited 6266d ago )

Ohh the famous RROD!

Brough to you by IBM, Sony and Toshiba.

Right? http://online.wsj.com/artic...

xabmol6266d ago

Thank you for being THAT guy. -_-

phosphor1126266d ago

I can guarantee you that you haven't read that book past that article. In fact, that article has nothing to do with RROD and just points at MS's BS tactics and ethical choices. The 360's CPU isn't the thing that causes the problem, but in fact a faulty connection BETWEEN the GPU and CPU.

Actually, to be honest, I have no idea wtf you are trying to get to by posting that link.

Ricegum6266d ago

I just got my ps3 back yesterday after it wouldn't play any kind of disc. I looked at alot of the repair guides but it all looked to risky lol. It cost me £99 but at least I know it's being done by professionals :)

They still have a fixable solution that won't cost you $150 if you don't have the cash. That's kinda neat.

cliffbo6266d ago

this is covered by the warranty so no problem.

PSP26266d ago

less than 1% sony said so themselves i trust sony better than you

commodore646266d ago

Looks like the ps3 is continuing the ps2 tradition.

NegativeCreepWA6266d ago

I wouldn't say that, my PS3 has already outlasted all three of my PS2s put together.

phosphor1126266d ago

Serious? Damn..lol..I'm still on my launch PS2...

beavis4play6266d ago

one of my relatives is now using my launch ps2. and it's still working fine.

NegativeCreepWA6266d ago

Seriously, the longest a PS2 lasted for me was 6 mouths. Most people I know didn't have the same problems.

phosphor1126265d ago

But if you don't have bad luck..then idk what it is lol.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle64d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde70d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

Soy71d ago

And then MK1 killed it again.

DivineHand12570d ago (Edited 70d ago )

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
