RPGamer: .hack//Infection Retroview Review

RPGamer writes: "The year is 2010. Microsoft has (assumedly) fallen, after a deadly computer virus caused several people to suffer fatal seizures, their Windows operating system replaced by ultra-secure ALTIMIT. Blizzard's World of Warcraft has been toppled by "The World," a massively multiplayer RPG from CC Corporation that has quickly grown to service twenty million customers worldwide, easily shattering the previous record of eleven million. It is within this game that the .hack series takes place. .hack//Infection is the first of four games in the original quadrilogy, accompanying the anime .hack//SIGN and various other pieces across multiple media to tell the story of Kite, "The World," and the events that transpired within its boundaries."

Why the .Hack Gaming Series Needs a Remake

.hack (Dot Hack) is a gaming series that started when technology was still evolving and growing. These games showed us some of the horrors but also the best parts of online gaming. But these games are decades old, and perhaps it's time for a remake, a remaster, or even a game in the series.

the OG games, yes they do.

but.. they are very niche to begin with.
bk then, i only knew one person who played the games, beside me.

franwex1015d ago

I downloaded the whole series in a sale, but have yet to play them.

gold_drake1015d ago

yea they are a commitment haha.

especially the G.U series.

Goosejuice1015d ago

U would think they would have made an actual mmo out of this game

gold_drake1015d ago

i think they had a mmo of it, in japan only. could be wrong tho.

Pyrofire951015d ago

I think you're right. But I could be wrong too.

Quetzll1014d ago

You guys might be right. I could be wrong, but you guys definitely might be on to something here. Who knows??? Pretty sure i heard something about that years back, but i could be wrong.

Knightofelemia1015d ago (Edited 1015d ago )

The Xenosaga trilogy also needs a remake or at least a remaster. I never got into .hack when they came out on the PS2 I would try them out. A remake or a remaster would be great I am not paying an arm and a leg for the original games.

YungDragon1014d ago

I've been wanting a new entry to this series for so long.

Good list, kudos for adding Shadow Hearts, Covenant is probably the best Jrpg most people have not played and what an improvement over the first one (plus ties with Koudelka which is an awesome game as well).

jznrpg1214d ago

I own all 3 of those games with 2 copies of Koudelka on PS1 just in case one of the four discs crapped out on me . Same with Legend of Dragoon. That’s one thing I want Sony to get back into , JRPGs , action and turned based

Melankolis1214d ago

Yep, they should have at least 1 Japanese studio with 2 teams in it specialize in JRPG.

RavenWolfx1214d ago

The amount of time I bring up Covenant when referring to amazing RPGs is astounding.

RedDevils1214d ago

Still my favorite JRPG on PS2.

FinalFantasyFanatic1213d ago

I wish I had played the other Shadow Hearts games, didn't know there was so many until later in the PS3 generation, at that point they hard to get for a reasonable price. I only got to play Covenant sadly, hopefully they'll all get ported to modern systems at some point.

Take a look at the libraries of your favorite consoles. I guarantee you, other than a handful of fighting games better suited on the Dreamcast, PS2 still has the best, biggest, and most varied library. Literally something for everyone. JRPGs on PS1 and PS2 really were special.

Edit: the article basically just lists every single JRPG on PS2 lol

Terry_B1214d ago

Nah..it lists only 33 of them. There are probably over 150 ;)

DrDoomer1214d ago

Who's gonna tell them that Persona 4 came out on the PS2?

andy851214d ago

DQVIII would be so good to be added to the new service

They've literally been saying this since 2017, but it's good to know.

CrimsonWing692472d ago

I would buy it! I don’t think it’s the greatest game or anything but the story and premise I find novel. I’m getting through .hack GU last recode right now.

addictedtochaos2472d ago

I have the PS2 originals and I’d buy it again.
