It's a shame that the biggest and most publicized feature for Empire: Total War has become the weakest point, especially as the game is otherwise as solid as they come despite a few niggles. That's just the way it is though; while fighting on land is as exciting as ever, fighting in the water if a messy and pretty bland affair. Once you've seen one navy, you've seen them all.
In the end though, even that weakness is nothing more than a chink in Empire's armour and the game as a whole is still just as deep and unsettlingly addictive as ever – so consider yourself warned!
