The Nerd Stash: Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is an excellent sequel that adapts the mechanics added in Tears of the Kingdom.

VGChartz's Evan Norris: "The wait for the next big Zelda game has gotten a lot easier, thanks to Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. It's the best game in the Hyrule Warriors sub-series so far, due to excellent music, sharp visuals, smooth performance, hours upon hours of rewarding content, a large roster of diverse heroes, and, most importantly, an extensive and flexible combat framework that helps the game rise above the limitations of its genre. The story and map designs could be more ambitious, and the pre-rendered cut-scenes more polished, but overall AAA Games Studio has done both the Zelda and Warriors franchises proud."

CCG writes - "As what is most likely the final game set in Zelda’s Breath of the Wild era spanning eight years, I am very happy with Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. The story was very enjoyable and provided some much-needed development of the ancient Hyrule from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. I found the roster to be much more consistently fun than in other Warriors titles. The performance is also much better than in other Warriors games, at least in single-player. There is a lot of violence as you cut down hundreds of monsters, and there are some spiritual elements, but nothing out of the ordinary for Zelda. If, like myself, you wished to see more of Tears of the Kingdom’s ancient Hyrule, and you enjoy hectic hack-and-slash combat, I would definitely recommend Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment."
This is a solid review, it’s great to hear that Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment delivers a stronger roster, better performance, and meaningful story development for the Breath of the Wild/TOTK era. The mix of fast-paced hack-and-slash action with deeper lore sounds like exactly what fans have been wanting. If this really is the last game set in that timeline, it seems like a satisfying send-off.
