Unknown 9: Awakening Review - IGN

Travis Northup - "It only took 10 minutes of playing Unknown 9: Awakening for me to feel a keen sense of deja vu. Taking out enemies in small arenas, watching an emotional story of personal growth, and squeezing between plenty of tight cracks in walls – it’s a formula that feels all too familiar, sticking to the well-established traditions of the "Crevice Crawler" genre. It does try out one or two unique ideas to set itself apart, like mind-control powers that let you play puppet master with your enemies, but the problem is that it executes on the fundamentals significantly worse than its contemporaries. There are certainly glimmers of hope within that new stuff, but any novelty quickly wears off, resulting in a generic and underwhelming slog full of performance issues and other jankiness to boot."

You seem to use the word a lot. I don't understand the point you are trying to make.

A month ago:
"The next flop is coming, you know it when they shill for it"
https://n4g.com/news/262385...

Easiest prediction I have ever made

Killa78584d ago

Who's shilling for it? It got a 5.

H9584d ago

What I said was a month ago when previews were shilling for it

Knushwood Butt584d ago

The 'journalist' from the site in the link shared above.

Killa78583d ago

It was a 'preview', based on brief time with the game.

They enjoyed the preview and disliked the full game. That's not shilling, that's integrity.

H9583d ago

Sure my guy, the preview they showed echoed everything that's been said about the game now that we have the full version

pwnmaster3000585d ago

Wasn’t this the sweet baby inc game lol

pwnmaster3000585d ago (Edited 585d ago )

Why so offended, all I did was ask a question. Maybe is you that actually need a therapist lol
Is it or not lol

Charlieboy333585d ago

Correct! I've said it before and I'll say it again......when you hire people to work on your game because they tick boxes instead of possessing skill and talent, your game will SUCK.

Knushwood Butt584d ago

Agree, and if you don't mind I'll take it a step further:
When you pay people to tick boxes instead of focusing on the core requirement your deliverable will SUCK.

Day 365 for weird game players with weird obsessions. Why are you bringing politics into this?

Snookies12584d ago

It's not about politics for me. That "company" has people that have actively admitted that they want to destroy the game industry. ALL gamers should be against it. It's doing a disservice to the people it supposedly tries to represent.

coolbeans584d ago

Your framing is incorrect. He's not *bringing* politics into this but rather reacting to an entity that *brought* politics into this already.

senorfartcushion583d ago

Considering the commenter mentioned the "political" company without the article *being* about the company, it only means that the virgin commenter Pwnmaster is the one bringing politics into this situation.

coolbeans580d ago

Again, your framing is fundamentally incorrect. Whether the article itself mentioned SBI is irrelevant as the game *itself* broadcasts their consultancy to the game's production. No matter how you rhetorically spin it, the first thing that *brought* politics into this was the developer themselves in hiring them; pwnmaster is simply commenting on that.

I was debating on picking this game up but never got around to it. Definitely on the fence.

goken487d ago

You definitely need to get the game. You deserve it.

Alos88487d ago

Nope. This is what happens when you decide something is going to be a multimedia empire before the game is even out.

justsomeoffdude487d ago

Just like inafune did with mighty no.9. Seems like any ambitious title with a 9 in it fails yeah??

goken487d ago

Of course it could be avoided.
Not engaging SBI would be a good start…

Unknown 9: Awakening (XS) Review | VGChartz

VGChartz's Lee Mehr: "Putting the cart before the horse is Reflector's folly in general. Even before Unknown 9: Awakening’s announcement, there'd already been two released novels that built up its alternate history, tone, and so on. Various other transmedia concepts followed suit. That concrete foundation, alongside its various high-budget game inspirations, seemed like surefire wins, especially with its more modest middle-market price. But then the rest of the game – presentation, storytelling, game design, etc. – has to be filled in and each individual category comes with its own set of problems. There's something to admire in its audacious transmedia crossovers, but it's a shame this first game can't rise to the occasion. "
