Is Apple really prepping a games console?

Trademark filing leads to some serious speculation: Of all the months of the year, January is typically the one when rumours about new tech products keep the internet humming. That's probably something to do with the CES show and speculation surrounding it, both before and after.

Among the most creative we've come across recently is a suggestion by respected technology website TG Daily that a recent Apple trademark filing suggests the company could be planning to re-enter the console gaming market.

as a gamer i would def consider it as Apple is known to have great technology.

Edit: You have a point Eiffel iphone and itouch are def lacking features but you cant deny its amazing tech. also, whats with the disagrees?? Apple does have amazing tech do some research people. maybe the iphone and itouch lack features but look at their laptops and computers...amazing pieces of hardware.

Eiffel6338d ago

Yes but limited to all aspects of the word.
And the creatively of each product is severely lacking concept.

Iphone-Itouch
Same thing without the call feature for an extra $30.

its probably bogus , but i hope the ea console rumour is bogus 2 , coz if its true , ea will milk us out of the last dime we got , if u thought ms was bad , just wait till ea makes a console , + they got a shltload of games that will be exclusive, so theyr gonna win handsdown

na2ru16338d ago

Then wouldn't we have to upgrade our consoles every 18 months?

I'm sure they will eventually, since the iphone games are doing well.

Cajun Chicken6338d ago

I wouldn't be suprised. I'll be into this one if it isn't pre-programmed to die like the early iPods did.

If people thought $600 was high for the PS3, imagine how much an Apple console would cost. Many people who aren't already Apple fans would probably be hesitant to purchase a console from them due to how frequently they release upgrades. There's not enough room for 4 competitors. Apple would need a hell of a lineup to even get me to consider it.

madpuppy6338d ago

but it will pretty and for the extra 1600.00 Steve Jobs dry humps every console.

I don't agree with that. I WISH I could agree with that. But buying habits and customer opinions prove otherwise

We've seen developers in the AAA space try new things and ideas. More often than not, the customers aren't willing to give things a chance, or not enough people buy into the project for it to grow.

Creativity works better in the indie space because the budgets, pressures, and expectations aren't the same.

Scissorman39d ago

it's a nice idea and it worked during the PS2/PS3-era when AAA didn't cost hundreds of millions of dollars. smaller budgets and shorter development time left room for more creativity and more risk. a game didn't need to sell 4 million+ copies to break even. things are different now.

This is the guy who bragged about crunching his staff and having them work through the night. Crunch culture has lost more talent and done more damage to the industry than any other factor. Screw him.
