Why Linux will crush Windows 7

Computer world writes:

"I've been toying with Windows 7 for a few days now. I'm not ready yet to talk about it in detail yet, but I can say that it's better than Vista SP1. Of course, saying 7 is better than Vista isn't saying much. However, I recently read a Network World column, which claims that Windows 7 will crush Linux. Yeah, and the Detroit Lions are going to win the Super Bowl this year. "

First of all, how the hell does this moron say:

"Yeah and Detroit Lions are going to win the Super Bowl this year"

When they didn't get to the playoffs let alone win one game? Dumbass, he should of speculated for next year. Second, in my opinion, Linux is a drag. The simple fact that you can't double click and get an install going is already putting me off Linux forever. Not to mention, no one is really behind it to advertise it or sell it out on the market like Windows so It's will never get a significant piece of the OS pie. Windows, Mac, and soon to be Android for PC.

You can double click a packet file(.Deb) (pretty much same as install file in windows) to Install nearly every program that matters, so basicly its as easy if not easier to install software that its in windows. Only difference is that linux requares you to imput root password before every install, but theres a good reason for that (security mainly, no software can access the os files without permission to do so, this means hard days for virus coders)

Not to mention the add and remove programs system which guarantees safe way to install most of linux software for your computer. Its not hard its just not windows, it greatly increases the systems protection from viruses and also makes it bossible to update all your computers programs with 2 clicks and a password.
Going to add and remove programs or something like symnactic package manager is pretty much same as going to a site offering you to download their program, except for the fact that the programs in package managers are checked and approved.

Basicly if you only isntall things from package manager its nearly imbossible to get virus on your computer.

But you'r pretty much right on the commercial part of the system. Not many "casuals" want to download iso files and burn them to dvd:s. Just getting them on to the shop shelves would help linux a lot but thats not a cheap progress. There are ofcourse places that sell these dvd:s but they are pretty much "hidden" for normal consumers.

u've obviously never used ubuntu, where getting a new program is as simple as breathing!!

You go to the 'add/remove applications' program, search what you are after, click on it and tell it to install. No need to search on google coz its all on the desktop, and it takes a fraction of the time that Windows does.

I kinda agree with you on the advertising front, but all the big distros are bank-rolled by a big company. Ubuntu is done by Canonical, Fedora has one aswell i think (cant remember the name, i only use Ubuntu), but seeing as they dont get a profit from selling the CD, its a bit harder to make money to make adverts...

Windows is pre-historic, Linux and Mac are making real advancements, just gotta wait for average people to realise it...

I believe he's being sarcastic, Mr genius.

Wow the Detroit Lions line was sarcasm genius.

I mean seriously, that was laid on thick.

Windows might loose a little market share from the bad Windows Vista press, but it ain't going nowhere and Linux is doomed forever (at least in the developed world) to be second. The Chinese might change that....

The bottom line is, Windows might be behind in shell commands, but it excells at GUI and ease of configuration. What do you think the majority of Windows users are using, GUI or shell commands?

Linux might be ok for the new exploring teenager patient enough to spend the time to learn, but it isn't right for a large portion of the users.

Yes, Linux has gotten easier to use especially with Ubuntu and drivers are much better, but it still has major issues such as easily accessible software, application configuration and marketing issues (such as naming on application, too many distributions)...

So he counters what he claims is a huge exaggeration with an even grander exaggeration.

I love it when we all use logic.

Its a good and free alternative for ppl who want to get everything out of their PC. Its most definetly not a system for hardcore pc gamers, but for those looking a OS that fits their daily needs like surfing the web, reading news, daily office needs and ofcourse listening/watching/browsing their media linux is a great alternative.

Hopefully tough, these recent stumblings of Microsoft with their software open up new oportunities for both MAC and Linux to get a chance to build up their slices on the OS market. Competition is great thing, and it makes even microsoft to get things done isntead of abusing their monopoly in different ways like they have done in past few years.

Linux is a great open Operating system which has its cons too, but most of them are related to lack of support of 3rd party software and hardware manufacturers.

Personaly, after using Ubuntu I doubt ill be full Windows user ever again.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing24d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9224d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit24d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing24d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9224d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
