deserved, on both accounts.

i cant wait until feb 29

Abriael798d ago (Edited 798d ago )

Yeah. By all means, a very good list, showing once more that player-voted awards beat journalist or developer-voted awards, and not by a small margin.

The fact that The Game Awards are 90% decided by an arbitrary jury and only 10% by the audience (which is meaningless) makes them worthless to me as anything else than mild entertainment.

gold_drake798d ago (Edited 798d ago )

yeh, the bigger it got, the more ... political? it got.but i still watch it every year. i don't rly care about who gets the awards tbf haha

Abriael798d ago

I mostly care for the developer's hard work to be honored, but when it's detached from what gamers play and care about, it certainly feels stale.

Vits798d ago

Agree. The Game Awards for me is more like an end-of-year E3 with announcements.

The actual awards are pretty much meaningless and they know it. Hence only some of them get the spot light, the rest is literally a mention at best.

--Onilink--798d ago (Edited 798d ago )

Given how easily any user generated mechanisms (polls, reviews, etc) are exploited, I honestly would never put the User version as better (especially knowing how…”dedicated” some fanbases can be)

That said, its not like I necessarily put too much stock in any kind of journalist driven awards for that matter, but the issues there can be more about biases rather than the potential of purely brute forcing the voting mechanisms by a single person or small group of individuals, not to mention biases will still heavily exist in the public anyway

I tend to like more when its the own devs who vote

GamingSinceForever798d ago

I believe the developers’ hard work is best honored by units sold. Awards are just subjective opinions.

Copies sold green lights the next project more than any GOTY award.

Just my opinion though.

Abriael798d ago

--Onilink--: no "user generated mechanism" can be launched by a game that is not liked.

Gamers vote for games they love. They have no reason not to.

On the other hand, both journalists and developers often vote for some rather spurious reasons.

--Onilink--798d ago (Edited 798d ago )

It doesnt really change the fact that almost any kind of user voting these days is heavily exploitable.
People setup bots and other means to completely ruin the integrity of the award. Its no different that they are doing it for something they like, the point is that while you can say that critics can be influenced or biased, user voting is usually much easier to compromise and influence at a fundamental level by giving a single person the option to cast hundreds if not thousands of votes

Abriael798d ago (Edited 798d ago )

--Onilink--: The proof is in the pudding. The Golden Joystick Awards always have results that are much closer to what is actually popular among gamers than any critic or developer-voted award.

The rest is excuses.

LordoftheCritics798d ago

Only a tiny group of people have heard of Golden PP awards.

Also surprised Alan Wake 2 didn't sweep the awards.

Best Visual Design: BG3?

Far from it.

dumahim798d ago

Except in the case of best Xbox game where Starfield won. Looks like damn near everyone is saying Hi-fi Rush should have won.

Michiel1989797d ago

you're basically saying: it's only a valid game award show if I agree with their picks.

I love the fact Ben Starr walked up on stage with a Final Fantasy VIII -T-shirt and said it was his favourite FF game

Respect

Every big AAA developer / publisher looking at Baulders Gate 3 now...

"Oh...f**k"

gold_drake798d ago

haha right?

love how the devs called all of them out xD

Inverno798d ago

And yet it won't be the set standard, AAA devs and publishers aren't worried about BG3.

Hofstaderman798d ago (Edited 798d ago )

They should be the shameless bastards. I wish the industry would reset from the same old cookie cutter open world, pointless activities dlcs riddled paradigm.

recoctimocassirnff798d ago

Unfortunately, publishers prob won't be worries about BG3. ESG on the other hand....

Abriael797d ago (Edited 797d ago )

@Hofstaderman: I bet you also wish for all developers to start asking money 3 years before they give you the actual game?

I love the game and I respect Larian's achievement, but they're at the very limit of a studio that IMHO should get away with 3 years of early access.

Snookies12798d ago

Haven't played Baldur's Gate 3 yet. However, I did pick up Divinity 2 on a Steam sale and have been absolutely addicted to it! Knowing how amazing Divinity 2 is, it's no surprise at all that this would take the award. 100% sure this is very well deserved, even without playing it. Can't wait to jump into it at some point soon!

Walalon798d ago

You are going to have an awesome time when you pick up Baldur's Gate 3 man if you loved Divinity 2.

Enjoy the ride my friend

Shaky Relationship meaning Hasbro wanted an even larger cut of the pie moving forward. Also why we're not getting BG4 w/Larian. Hasbro just wanted to bleed them dry.

Michiel19895d ago

no im pretty sure it was related to the people from hasbro that helped with the game getting fired or that only the people from Larian were eligible for bonusses and Larian didn't fuck with that

Christopher4d ago

The people from Hasbro were fired by Hasbro. Why would non-workers on a game get bonuses for not having worked on the game (meaning anyone at Hasbro)?

repsahj6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

Because they are busy for the next Divinity game on Switch 2. Fine by me because I already have BG3 on my PS5, and believe me or not, I didn't finish it. Considering I bought the Deluxe edition to play it ahead of everyone. XD

gigoran85d ago

if this were able to run on the switch 2, then theoretically the PS4 pro should be able to as well. can't wait for that port

Neonridr4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

you do realize that in terms of numbers it might be on par with a PS4 Pro. However, GPU wise, it has a much larger feature set available to it. The PS4 Pro couldn't even run FSR natively.

Terry_B4d ago

Yeah..I doubt BG3 would run well on the Switch 2.
